I just wonder about PM- as in "PRIVATE MESSAGE"
HOW PRIVATE- IS PRIVATE MESSAGE HERE IN MYLOT?
Is sending private message in mylot is really private?
And- if we send private message here in mylot- is there any rules and violations too?
If there is...kindly enlighten me anyone about this matter.
As far as i know-private is private and private is just between the messenger and the receiver.
Thanks- sorry- did i missed reading that "PRIVATE MESSAGE" -can be read by everyone (just asking)

Private messages are private, as the name implies. Rules to follow for them should be the same as general rules of good conduct and niceness.

to a certain extent, a PM is private because it's not posted in a discussion where the public can freely comment on it. it is just between you and the receiver who has to be a friend in your list.
as far as the guidelines go, violations in the PM include potential spamming. perhaps it can be reported also. i haven't experienced this in my PM so i haven't reported anyone from before.
if we activate our mylot notifications, you'd notice that private messages are also sent to our email address and now becomes part of mailbox. free mail accounts can usually get hacked, even private ones. and that's endangering privacy.
when i used an office email address before, i got concerned by the fact that messages are stored in our databank at the MIS, be it an official email or a private one. MIS administrator has an access to it. that leaves little privacy i believe.
also i believe that anything posted in the internet world is saved somewhere. and can be accessed if one knows how... that's why some hackers are close to being geniuses. they attempt to do what is not normally done by regular people.

dear myles,
Oh,i remember official email...i forgot to close my official email in our office when i resigned.
Good thing i still have access with my company ID- i was able to enter our office and delete my official email, thu nothing confidential in there, but i am afraid someone or the team admin even my sup can access it-so better delete it.
Don't worry...no wedding bells this time hehehe

hmm interesting. I just private message someone right now and yes it got me wondering how private it is... because after i sent him that massage it asked me to put a tag in it...so that means if someone would tag that kind of topic, would my private message to someone appears? so that owuld me it is not that private at all? because if it were private, then it would not asked for a tag!confusing!

Hello Jaiho,
Private is a private between mylotters. but nothing is secret and private when it comes to the admin. THEY SEE EVERYTHING, even our private messages are seen by them. at least the advantage of this is that we are not scrutenize if we don't speak english in the private message, only in the post. i do remember an accident happened after accidentally clearing the cookies of this site then i stumble into mylot after that i saw messages from different mylotters. but that didn't happen again because it was a glitch of some kind. so, i can say only admin can see our messages.

Dear LK,
A month ago,i send PM t one mylotter using our native tongue and she says she hardly understand what i am saying because it's been translated word for word in English.
Because at first 2-3 responses,we are using our native tongue, but on the 4th send...it was automatically translated so we are laughing because like i said,-it was translated word for word so it sounds awkward right.
I haven't asked you about this...but this happens to me with one mylotter...
hmnnnn

Hi jaiho i doubt om the privacy of the social sites. Now a days there are lot of hackers around you,you don't expect privacy in any case at these sites i don't know much about MYLOT but i think a PM should be PM and should not be on social site. You can use your emails for it.If it is not so private just something related to MYLOT that go with it.May these veterans will tell about it more.

Hi. jaiho2009. As far as I know of, private messaging is private at myLot. When I correspond with another member on myLot, I will make sure that I don't add any tags. If I add tags to my messages, then someone will be able to look up my message through the search, somehow. That, I don't want to happen. I believe that it is private and I really do wonder if myLot can see anything that we may write to others too. Hopefully, it is totally private, because everything else on myLot seems to be made to be public.

Hi Jaiho
Private message are private and as per the guidelines it says:
"Are my myLot messages private? I see them when I do a search.
Yes, they are private. Private messages show up in a search for your convenience only, other members do not see your messages in search result"
I suppose myLot if they wanted to would have the necessary tools to be able to view but my guess is that it would have to pretty extreme for them to do that.
The only violation I can think of is if someone spams a member with unwanted PM's and links at which point if they are unwanted and told the member to stop and do not then we have the right to report it to admin.

I don't think there are rules for private messages.. Of course we should be decent to eachother but private messages should just be between 2 people, it's not a public mylot matter. I don't think any admin is sitting there reading all of our private messages either, how could they have the time?

Jai beti
I think private messages are PRIVATE in the true sence, it is between two members only, but may be mylot can view, but why they should, they have tons of members here..
Well if a members reports to mylot, giving a copy of the message, for some reason, it can know, my view ofcourse..
Private message, CAN'T BE READ by everyone, i am pretty sure..
Thank you so much for this discussion
Blessings from Maa

Hi, as you are senior member i think i should ask you this question but even though its ok, i would like to tell is that any messages sent through online can be hacked and seen it, to a further extend the hackers can even change the content of the message we send. I have even seen a video how to do it long days back. Till now i said generally, now regarding to mylot i think others can't see our messages, how i am telling this is if we search for any messages, it will show only our messages and not others message.
The best idea i think is don't give a tag name while sending a private message to anyone as anyone will search only by giving a tag name.

yes, private really has to be private. and when he's promoted, he'll be a sergeant.. haha..
i received a PM once and it looks more like a discussion. i hope mylot will do something to have distinction between the messaging and the discussions section of the site.

well, i don't think he'll reach that rank before he resign or retire. as for the C130, Philippines has only two units, and none of them flies nowadays..i think bhabycatch should deal with the AFP men.. =D

hi jaiho no nobody but you as a friend on my list or so meone else's list can read the private message you send to me or whoever. the two of you are the only ones who can read that our private messages are just that, private, only the sender and the receiverof the private message
can read it.there are no rules or violations that I know of on private messages at all.they are private.that is why so many times I tell a mylot friend if he or she wishes me to help him or her understand some rule inb the mylot information do not post a discussion that could be deleted for breaking the ru les about asking questions in discussions that mylot has already answered in the questions and answers.Instead send me a private message and I will be glad to help you understand some rule that does not make sense to you.

Hello Hatley.
I am sorry but I think it's not the real case here in mylot.
You know why? My friend and I exchanged private messages using our dialect.
Guess what happened? They deleted our messages and even deducted a cent from my friend's earnings.
But I cannot really argue with you since you've been here in mylot for so long and I am just a novice here. It's just that I wonder why this thing happened when it is called PRIVATE yet they PRY on us?

hi jaiho,
Well privacy is really important when you say PRIVATE it must be between you and the other person or a group whatever you talked about should be between you and them and shall not be said in public without consent.
I remember there is one mylotter who I talked outside mylot he always say that whatever we talked can we keep it private and I understand why some people intend to have a private conversation.
So it means private messaging in Mylot is not safe?

In my opinion, privacy cannot exist in Internet because every message in Internet can be found by others. So you'd better not talk something that you want to keep ist private.
