Do you have a problem falling asleep or going to bed when the sun is still up?

I have to go to bed early as I get up very early. This time of year I need to go to bed the same time I do in the winter. But now with summer here I find it hard to get to sleep with it being somewhat light out! Have you had this problem? Maybe I want to stay up because I think I am missing something! LOL

I don't have a problem going to sleep when it's still day light IF I'm really tired. We have some drapes with a thick lining that drowns out the sun light so we can feel like it's late at night. You can get them at Walmart for about twenty dollars a pair. Other than that, I couldn't sleep with the sun light unless I'm dogged tired.

I love sleeping during the day, I have no idea why but its just so much more relaxing and comfortable to me. I'm a night owl, what can I say? It's great to be out all night with friends and to come in at 6 in the morning and be able to sleep away the day and repeat the same thing the next day :) Call me crazy but I think it's really great.

I used to have that problem but not anymore. My husband and I both work nights so we have to sleep during the sunlght hours. We make the room dark with curtains so we can keep the light out.

Yes, I do find it hard to go to bed early. Whether it is light out or not it is hard for me to go to sleep earlier in the day. I do have room darkening blinds so that does help when I need to take a nap during the day. I'm a night owl, I always have been. It takes me a while to fall asleep at night whatever time I do go to bed. Have a great day and happy myLotting!!!

I used to have this problem but it wa solved with the purchase of some sleep masks/ If I get up in the night ti use bathroom then I put it in then otherwise I would be up by 5 am when it get light here in the summer. If I ever take the odd nap in the day then n goes the mask. I do not leave my home to sleep elsewhere without it

Yes, I do have the same exact problem! I will be headed to bed at 8pm, have to rise at 4am. The problem is, I probably won't fall asleep until 11pm! I started this new job 4 months ago and still cannot get used to getting up at the time I'd been going to bed for years. And, of course it's because you of you might miss something!

Hi jill! Our countries have a time difference and the sun rises and sets differently. The sun sets usually at 6PM here so there's no problem for me sleeping as early as 7 since it would be dark then already. (But I don't really sleep that early. ) But when I went to Singapore where the sun sets later than 6PM, it was already 7PM and the sun is still visible, I couldn't sleep during my usual time which was 10 or 11. It's like, my time for my activities for the day has lengthened so my sleeping time has been delayed. If the sun sets at 6, I can still be out until 10 or 11. But when the sun sets at 7, it felt like I can be out until 12 or even 1AM. It was hard to adjust. Even so when the sun rises much later there than here in our country.

I really don't have trouble falling asleep ever. I am always so tired I just sort of pass out whenever my head hits the pillow. I actually LOVE taking naps in the middle of the day so the sunlight does not bother me.

hi jillhill I am here in California but I do not go to bed til 10 pm and its pretty dark here by then. my problem is my roomie. she like I is an old lady too we are retired but she thinks I am horrible because I refus to go to bed at 8 pm. the sun is really still up and gorgeous outside b ut she thinks I am su pposed to go to bed w hen she wants tme to. I refuse to do this as there is no earthly reason for us to go to bed that early. we are got up at 6 but going to bed at 10 gives a person 8 hours of sleeo , the woman sleeps all day too grrrrrrrrrr.

Well my kids sure have a problem with it.. they keep arguing with me that it's still morning out so it's not possibly bed time even though it's 9 or 9:30 and they have school the following day!

I do experience a lot of times. Although when I go to bed it's dark anyway. However, my kids will complain that it isn't even dark when it is their bedtime.

I have a very hard time sleeping during daylight hours. I once had to work the midnight shift and I would get home in the morning and go to bed about 7:30am and I would always wake up by 11am. By the time the weekend came, I was a zombie. I had to do it for a year and I never got used to it. I was SO glad to get off of that shift. I'm sure there are people that can do it with no problems but not me. I'm just not built for being awake all night and sleeping during the day. Even what you're talking about, going to bed before it gets dark, I know I wouldn't be able to get to sleep, so I feel for ya. You'll be short on sleep until the days get shorter and the nights get longer. Sleep tight!

I work one night a week 11-7 shift, and yes it is very difficult to sleep during the day. I usually take a Benadryl and that solves the problem pretty fast.

Jillhill, I know EXACTLY how you feel! I have trouble going to sleep when the sun is up unless I am REALLY tired. More than that though, I have trouble waking up when it is still dark. I am almost always late to work in the winter :p I often wish I could work less hours in the winter or go in later so that I could get more sleep. Maybe you should get some blackout curtains to help you fall asleep. Of course that might make it so dark that you can't wake up in the morning! LOL

Well as I have worked all 3 different shifts in my life, there are many times I have had to sleep during the day. For me it often depends on how warm it is, and how noisy the others are around me. I usually will have no problems sleeping anytime of the day especially if I am tired.

I like going to bed when it is dark, and I like sleeping in a nice dark room. It drives me nuts at night when my husband gets up, gets a writing idea, and turns on his computer. The damn old monitor (pre-LCD era) lights up the room like a Christmas tree.

I would have a heck of a time going to bed when it's light outside. I feel for you and yes, I would feel exactly like you do. I live on a main street hearing cars, buses, and ambulances all day and night, so the noise would also make it really hard and almost impossible. Thank goodness I semi-retired a couple of years ago and don't have to worry about such things anymore. I had no choice, but in it's own way, I'm glad. I use to work 3-4 days at 12 1/2 hours each, so I was always pretty beat. I miss working but there's just nothing available that I can do anymore, or, they always want younger people. I gave up. I still get up early though around 6:00am, but I can't sleep until it's dark out. Silly but true. I hate getting old, lol!!!!!

That is exactly what I considered my chilkdren's problem when I had a hard time getting them to bed at a reasonable time after daylight savings time went into effect. Seriously, I understand your problem. Have you tried black-out curtains to make your sleeping room dark? Ear oplugs would be helpful if it is noise that is keeping you awake, or quiet music or a machine that produces white noise.

You sound like the kids: I don't want to go to bed, it's still light outside. I remember when my kids were small, getting them to go to bed in June was hard. Maybe you need room darkening shades...so that your room will be dark. Your brain will tell you it's time to sleep if your room is darkened rather than light.

You have "work ethic" I don't have! LOL. My dad did this and my uncle out west did this. They both needed those heavy light blocking shades in their bedrooms with heavy drapes on the windows drawn shut. My uncle went to bed in her room after my cousin went to school and was up a little after she came home from school. Great for family time before he went to work but not so much on weekends and holidays. They got two twin beds in their room after he retired. They were used to sleeping alone.
