Do you donate your unwanted clothes?

Growing up, I've always donate my unwanted clothes to Goodwill, Savers, Salvation Army, etc. Now that I'm grown up, I'm having a hard time to even throw away my clothes. It's like I want to hold onto every single piece in my closet. I can't stand seeing my closet empty. Do you donate your clothes or do you like to hold onto them?

I rarely donate my unwanted clothes to some orphanages. Usually I give my unwanted clothes to my relative and cousins. But I always donate my child'cloth for orphanage students. Once in every year, all the children of my child visit orphanage and donate things for them. There are many poor people in our area. So I always keep the useless clothes of my husband on the road side. It will disappear from there within ten minutes.

The concept of donating unwanted clothes is not very popular here in Hong Kong. I usually give my unwanted clothes to my sister or friends of friend so as not to waste them.
But I did donate my clothes to Oxfam when I was studying in the UK. It is good for Oxfam to have shops selling the unwanted stuff so as to raise fund and help people who are in need. May be this concept with become more popular later

I noticed that most people just threw away their clothes when i was living in Japan. It was a foreign concept to me to not hand them down or give them away. I did find one "flea-market" in yokohama. It was a large warehouse where people had tables and were selling their own used items. I found some great clothes there.

hello my dear friend, i use to donate clothes when i was young and working and not married. now after my marriage, i have stopped working so have stopped spending also. i have very less clothes and those which i have i wear regularly. i mean i have three pairs and i wear on alternate days. if i take bath more than two times i wear just a gown and nothing. now i just dont waste money on anything. i dont even buy much footwear. before settling down, i had sixty pair of footwear.
i have many times donated my used and many times i have donated un-used clothes also. because before when i use to shop, and i use to shop in sale, i use to finally end up buying many unreasonable items, just out of greed , i mean less cost on many things. now i feel and want and wish if people donate me some of their things hahahaha.

I usually do not donate. But after using for more than 2 years I discard it. Not donate as donate means giving atleast 1 year old things not 2 years

I use to donate my clothes to my relatives or friends only if they are in good condition. I donate my clothes when I no longer like them or they do not fit me anymore.I used to donate in time especially my child's clothes to my other children. As my child was growing, his clothes wouldn't fit him anymore so they were as new. Children's clothes are generally expensive.

We donate our clothes. Mostly because we live in a small space, so we just can't store things we are not using.

Yes sometimes I donate my unwanted clothes and sometimes I hold on to certain clothing that I think I might be able to wear again someday! L.O.L. I have a couple of dresses from when I was younger and I promised myself I will fit in them again!! And I am getting close!! Yea!!!

I've been a hoarder but I've gotten better and began donating clothes to charitable organizations about a year ago. There are nice tax benefits in the U.S. I'll also try a garage sale to move some unwanted clothes and merchandise as well.

This is actually a good idea. Better to give away the clothes to people who would use them than keep them in a box to rot. What we do, however, is usually give the clothes away to relatives. Another thing that can be done is to sell them in a garage sale or something. =P

I seldom donate my clothes to charity organizations but I always give them to my friends, relatives and people in my community who are in need. I always want to organize my things' and part of it setting aside my unused clothes.I prefer to give it to the needy than throwing it away.Even if we're thinking it as waste it could be someone else treasure.

I tend to hold on to most of my clothes even some that I have not been able to fit in for years. I guess I am hoping one day I will be able to fit in them again..but they will probably be out of style by then..lol

I love donating my unwanted items for charity shops although I give some things to my friends.I try to give stuff away all the time and am clearing out my bedroom at the moment. I buy a lot of things so I am constantly giving away books, clothes, toys and other things. I get a lot of stuff from family and friends so I have to give some of it away as I do not have a big house and it gets cluttered very easily especially with 2 kids.

Before, i always donate my unwanted clothes to the nearby Salvation Army. Now, since i had moved away from that area, i usually gave my unwanted clothes to my relatives. I gave them away only those that i can no longer wear anymore. For those that i still can wear, i usually still maintain them in my closet. I prefer not to waste too much money into buying clothes since now everything is getting expensive.

Good day AmourHelen
With reference to your main topic discussion, you have a point on that. Indeed, it is really hard to released and let go of old things especially if you bought this thru your hard earned money. However, though it is hard, there are times, you must let go of those, hence, these things will just occupy too much space of your cabinet and closet.
In addition, perhaps, just keep and save the most valuable old clothes or old things for you if your really find it hard to decide. For that, at least, you will have at least a remembrance of those things that you value most.

Every January, my husband , my daughter and i would clean our own drawers and closets for clothes that were not worn for the whole year. We would either give them to our laundrywoman or to the woman who irons our clothes.
They would gladly take them for their husbands and for their family members. I feel proud when they come to the house on Saturday and Sunday respectively, wearing my former clothes. At least, our not used anymore clothes were worn by others.
