Those who are deaf they do hear sound, music or a kind of sound from waterfall, Some may hear a sound so much awful and horrible. One had to cope with it and accept one's condition with serenity

To relax my brain, i would try to go to sleep first. If sleep does not come i would try to go to a lonely place where there is no noise or disturbance.I would try to look at the greenery and flowers to relax my brain. If i had pets, i would play with them.Praying is a very good alternative to relax the brain.Just think about God and ask him to remove all the problems from your mind.
Listening to light music also helps to relax the brain.Going to parks and beaches are all the outdoor activities that will help to relax your brain.

I do all sorts of things, depending on what my brain just engaged itself in. I spend a lot of my time online for hours and usually, I keep the radio on. If I feel a little distracted or a little annoyed, I turn of the radio. Sometimes we keep a lot of things on and all we need to do is put away a few of our distractions.
Most of the time though, I crochet. I'm slowly embarking on a rainbow crochet square cover. It'll be huge but I've been making my crochet squares so much that it doesn't take a lot of concentration and my brain tends to relax every time I pick up my hook and my yarn.
The easiest way to make my brain relax is reading. On my commute going out, I find that I tense up more when I'm not doing anything while on the subway. I think too much and worry a little bit more than I should. So I take out a book and read. My imagination goes on auto pilot and at the end of my reading, I feel so refreshed!

I did encounter the same experience as you before.
Earlier, I were just force myself to lay on the bed to sleep.
But most of the time, I were awoke until the morning.
Now, I have a very good method to overcome this matter.
Basically, I shall not drink any beverage with caffeine during the day time.
For instance, tea, coffee, pop and so on do contain caffeine.
I shall listen to the soft song with soft music.
For me, most of the songs I shall listen are related to my religion,Buddha.
It will be better if I sing together with those songs too.
Later, I shall find myself easily fall asleep.
Other than these, I shall try to do meditation.
For me, most of the time I failed to make my mind calm by doing this method.
May be the method I tried to meditate was not correct.
I hope the above will be workable and helpful to you.

I have this kind of phone (I can't afford an internet access cell phone), but since this is my only "electronic" toy, it has some games on it (wish it had more), but they do not take much brain at all to play! So, I get sleepy playing them (like card game), so it's turned into a ritual, esp. when not sleepy.
If you can't do this, some people I know fall asleep doing the newspaper crossword puzzle or word search, Soduko, etc. :o)

my husband has this same exact problem. he has difficulty sleeping as well. i feel that when this happens, the only way is to make your eyes feel tired no matter how you do it. for me, if i sleep on the bed, i tend to fall asleep very fast within ten minutes actually.
but if there are times when i can't sleep, then i do what i enjoy most. read a book. i keep reading late at night until my eyes get tired and i feel sleepy. when that happens, instead of trying to continue reading, i immediately go to bed and sleep comes more easily then. i also use the computer and do things i enjoy. when my eyes start feeling tired after some time, i immediately go to bed and it's much easier to sleep.
try not to drink any caffeinated drinks before sleeping or hours before sleeping. that will not help. hopefully, with some of the advice given here and by others, it'll be better for you. you might not see the results at once but as your routine to sleep early continues, i think there'll be some changes.
before, my husband always used to sleep after 12 midnight. but now, he goes to bed around 9.30 or 10, talks random things with me, and then sleeps early. best of luck

I noticed that too~ We can't sleep because we still thinking of things. The solution is- let you brain empty and don't think of anything. Relax means you don't want to do anything so stop doing it~ Clear and empty your mind and soon you will get yourself a well sleep~

The question is does your mind flit from topic to topic? Or does it focus on one issue which leads to another?
If this is the case, then you might want to try some relaxation exercises...yeah I know "exercise".
First make your body comfortable, consciously relax each muscle group, starting with your neck, imagine the tension flowing downward, shoulders arms imagine the tension flowing out through your fingertips, from your below your shoulders once again imagine the tension flowing downward, eventually leaving via your toes. Repeat as needed.
It'll take some practice but it does work without medications, it's a form of self hypnosis which eases your body and mind into a relaxed state and sleep comes naturally and restful.
There are other ways you can use that busy mind to help you rest, you can create a mental room or even a world which can be your safe place where nothing can touch you.
If the power of the mind can keep you awake, then the power of the mind can help you sleep.

I usually just stay there because I dont want to bother anyone and I try to just concentrate on my breathing. Thats helps sometimes, but on the weekend I will go out and paint or walk the dog. I will take benedryl if it persists and I dont get good sleep, because I am not a very pleasant person to be with if I am to tired and then I fight to stay awake all day!

My question is-is this a normal thing for you or is it just lately? If it's normal you may have a condition that inspires racing thoughts, see a doctor. If it's once in a while, use relaxation techniques like repeating something easy over and over again. Say one, one, one until you fall asleep.

Yes it happens to all of us. What I would recommend you to do is, close your eyes and try rolling your eyes towards the back of your eyelids. It would make you feel a little drowsy after a minute or slow and in most cases a person falls asleep. It has worked wonders for me.

What do you guys think on using sleeping pills? Can it be beneficial to force shut down your brain instead of trying to relax. Anybody out there who can give us some insights on using sleeping pills as a technique to relax the brain? Just asking. Thanks!
