do you think we should really take home some work if we need to already go home but there are still some work that needs to be done. do you think it is still healthy and it is the best thing to do, instead of staying longer in the office? what is your opinion in this?

chiyo i wish i had a job in a office^^ anyway i think that it is ok to a few times take it home to finish it^^ but not a lot of times. i think is better to be home and pay attention to our family with whom we live and let work to be done later on if it can be done later^^ if not we just stay a bit more in the office and finish it.. but if is to stay like two more hours in the office i dont think we should stay. we should go home and finish it bcs that way at least we make some company to those who are important. if you just stay in the office a lot of days till late, your family will feel like missing you and you wont rest enough^^ so i say it depends of the time you will have to stay to finish it and if is like 1 time and not very often^^

I did that many a time while I was working. Late hours at office is a good idea but a fatigued body and mind can reduce the efficiency. I used to run to the club in the evenings and refresh myself and then tackle the work I took home. That way my relaxation and exercise were accomplished. While work is taken home, one should consider two points. One is whether the work can be completed without another assistant or colleague by the side. Secondly avoid carrying large files or important papers home. Because if anything goes missing, one can get into a greater trouble.

When I was still single I did not mind taking my work home. Now that I am married I have to balance everything. When I get home I should take care of the house, make sure there is food on the table, the house tidy, the laundry done and a myriad of other things to be done. So if I could get the job done in the office I would get it done so I do not need to take it home.

I prefer staying longer in the office than taking unfinished work at home. My home is my sanctuary, a place where I "recharged" myself after a draining day at work. If I will bring it home with me, I will become restless and besides, doing it at home cannot be fruitful since I see my house as place of relaxation, I will not have the same drive/determination to finish that work at the office since my bed will be accessible, the television, and other things that might distract me from finishing my work...

If the occasion calls for a vacation or a holiday like thanksgiving, Christmas with the family, etc. work from the office should not be taken home. work should not go with family get together. Family comes first.
Another instance is when you live alone, you have work you a** all day at the office, give time for yourself too. dont bring work at home. Its better to sleep when you have finished everything at the office.

I don't think it's a good habit to bring home your assigned paper works or work that have to be finished. I still believe that a home is where we can rest and have time for ourselves. If a work has to be finished I would rather work it in the office so that I am sure all the needed resources are there and that no one will bother me with what I am doing.

Hi Chiyosan!.
I think if we still single its won't be a big problem. Its will easier to done the job in comfort of your own home than in the office. you can do it while eating or watching television, its will be feel more relaxed.
If you had a child waiting for you at home its will a different scenario because they need you attention at home and its will hard to do all the task so its better to leave the job in the office and let the love one get the attention they need.

As a rule, if one plans the office work day properly, one ought to be able to finish the tasks by evening when it is time to go home. Occasionally, this may not be possible, and if the job is very urgent, there is no harm in taking it home. However, one should not make a habit of this, since it will affect work life balance at home.

I'm generally against that. I have a well defined work time in the office hours from 9am to 6pm and while I'm responsible in doing my job as good as I can, I'm not in the mood to bring it home to continue being an employee there, that's my resting and personal time, outside the office.
I can under some urgency or delay to leave the office 10/15 minutes or to get early in the morning, but not on any regular basis.
Besides, I'm paid only for my normal time, my 8 daily hours, and I'll not earn anything more for doing so. In my particular case in my office, not even the bosses valuate such efforts and simply say that staying late "is part of the job".
The only thing I can do is to take extra hours on my home. And only because I'll get an extra paid and higher rates per hour than the normal work. I've done once, when the company badly needed a job to be completed.

A friend knows that it must not be overloaded.I think you have to work only in the office and at home a break from stress.must rest and can not work.

I believe that work should not be brought home. Working force need respite to get on going. Our home should be a place to unwind, to be with the family. However, I also believe that it is OK to bring work home when it is absolutely necessary, like when there's a deadline to beat, just don't make a "habit" out of it.

I personally think that one shouldn't bring his or her work home. try to remember this..."Office work is NEVER done." So just try and make the most of your 8-hour work hours and maybe try to do a little overtime every now and then.
Your time at home must be for your family alone. You owe them your undivided time, attention, and love.

Thats an occupational hazard for me! I believe its really unhealthy to be bringing work home since its supposed to be the time that you focus on freeing yourself from all work troubles and have this time of the day to enjoy with you family. its tough when you have to bring work home then still go to work tomorrow, it feels like you're working 24/7 and the stress level doesnt seem to subside anymore. I believe its better to spend an extra hour or two maybe to finish in the office. Prioritize things that need to be finished at that time and then enjoy a work-free evening at home.

Hi chiyosan!
I sometimes bring work at home but most of the time, I couldn't finish it anyway because of too many distractions. So I stopped bringing home work and instead, I just finish them at the office. Now I don't like bringing work at home at all! I feel like, home is where we are supposed to relax not to work. So now, I don't think it's good to bring work at home. Time at home should be spend with the family, should be spent relaxing so the next work day, you'll be recharged.

I agree. Home is a place for a lot of distractions. I sometimes fail to finish work because of such. It is funny sometimes cause I brought home some work for the sole purpose of finishing them but it end up not finished at all!

I did it one time. The next time, I lack energy and too sleepy at work. I think it is not healthy at all. You should be relaxing at home. Enjoying your work free space and sleep. Taking home some work, would be depriving what you deserve - relaxation. There will always be tomorrow to do it. Just have proper time management at work.

Hmm... maybe it depends on the kind of work you have? There are some which can be taken home and some which can't be. Another question is: is it the kind of work that needs to be finished now, or can you put it off to be continued the next day? Staying after work hours is an option but then that will eat up your time for yourself and with your family, which is equally important. Bringing your work home has a similar effect as staying at work, although you will be able to take breaks to spend time with your family if at home. But then some might just think having to take breaks is a disturbance.
I guess in the end, it's on a case-to-case basis whether it's ok to take home work. But maybe it is generally better not to (unless absolutely necessary).

In my opinion, work is separated from my home life. So obviously I would take no work left after work time home on most occasion. Only if it is so emergent that it can't be delayed for even a single day, I would finish it at home.
I will put my eye on raise the effectiveness at work to assure that acceptable amount of work is done in the office.

I think if they offer & pay you overtime, i might stay a little while, but i definitely wouldn't take it home with me. You work for someone else...miking them money. If all you do is work for someone else, you have less of a life. After 10 years at my office, i have realized that this is only a job. My life is more important than my job. I do my best to enjoy my life & leave the work where it belongs! back at the office!

If necessary, we have to bring work to home. I sometimes do that during my previous jobs. But now, my current job allow me tons of free time. As a result, I get to do on-line job.
