Potato -- my favorite vegetable

All that i remember about potatoes -- About fifty years ago it was considered a costly vegetable and in our family my grand mother use to make it once in a week.
Nowadays though we can afford to buy it, it is being cooked once in a week only because it is considered gaseous.
BUT ALL SAID AND DONE POTATO is my favorite vegetable.
I have heard that Jains do not eat potatoes because they think that the insects will be killed.
In North India almost all dishes are made with potatoes being included as a vegetable. This goes well with chapathies.
In Mcdonald and other fast food restaurants also potato carries weightage -- finger fry, burger etc.
ANOTHER INTERESTING THIS IS I have not come across a person so far who says "I do not like potatoes".

Potatoes are an excellent vegetable, able to stand in almost every dish, there are just so many ways to cook them.
I made a potato salad yesterday which proved to be far from usual recipes and which was way better.
I also like grilled potatoes, French fries, baked potatoes with lemon, olive oil and oregano, even potato puree.
You just gotta love potato!
Do you have any good recipe to share, by the way?

I love potatoes too. Potatoes are healthy vegetable. It is also a good medicine. I've read somewhere that the skin of potatoes are good for Gout or rheumatism. all you have to do is to peel the potatoes and boil the skin. The water from the boiled peelings of potatoes will be drank by the patient and it cures the pain and all.

Right from the childhood every person like the taste of potato and it can be mixed with some other vegetable also to get increased in the taste. Also, in the earlier years the potato was very cheap in Northern part of India and it was costly in the Southern part of India. Also, in the olden days many vegetarian in Southern part also do not take potato. It was due to its cost or like Jains, they may not taking the vegetables. In my family I have not tasted the potato in my childhood. But nowadays without potato there is no cooking.
The reasons is that not only everyone likes but also this vegetable can be stored for some days after purchase. So, every family purchase this potatoes in kilos to keep them at their house. This will help when they do not go to market and for the emergency cooking.

Potatoes are very common in my home now. See I am Puerto Rican but must admit, it was not very common in my home while raising my children as we had a lot of rice instead. But I live with an American/German and potatoes is an ultimate favorite of his.
Though it usually is baked, boiled and or mashed. We do not eat french fries too often, as we don't really eat much of anything fried.

Potatoes are expensive where I live, but I do like them. I like them baked or fried, and depending on who is making them, sometimes I like mashed potatoes. I'm pretty picky about eating french fries. I know a potato is a potato, but sometimes different fast food places vary drastically with the taste of their fries. Did you know the skin of the potato is the most nutritious part?

hi I like potatoes too Here in the Us we often have them with both lunch and dinner like the Asians so with rice. I like potato salad, french frys and fried potatoe slices and baked potato. Potatoes also make a delicious potato soup.we use them cut up and mixed with other veggies for soups and stews with some meat. I love to cook beef for beef stew along with potatoes and onions and carrots and green peppers. delicious indeed. It needs a little garlic and some oregano and thyme and basil and a couple of bay leaves. then simmer till beef is tender and have a lovely dinner. ]happy[/em]

Here in the Philippines, potatoes are costly. But though it's not our staple food, potatoes are always in our viands and is well loved by people.
I like potato so much too. I specially like it as french fries or as fried potato wedges. Dipped in a sauce made of mayonnaise and a bit of ketchup and a bit of spice, i could eat endlessly the french fries or the fried potato wedges. Had it not been for the unhealthiness of it being fried, i could eat it everyday.

I like baked potatoes but that's the only way I'll eat a potato (besides french fries of course). It's starchy and makes you gain weight! So it's a fattening food.

It is very hard to find someone who does not like a potatoes because potatoes can be cooked in so many ways. Say if a person does not like mashed potatoes but they like fries...they can not say they do not like potatoes because even though the name is not in the product fries are made from potatoes. I like baked potatoes and my boyfriend does not but he loves mashed potatoes and fried as well as I. Usually when you meet a person and they do not like vegetables more than likely the potato is the only vegetable that they will actually eat. But no matter what I am sure everyone like some sort of variation of the potato it just depends on how they are prepared and cooked!

I think potato goes well with everything!
I have not really thought about it before I stumbled upon this discussion, but I do love potatoes too. I like it fried, stewed, baked, with curry...
Potatoes are indeed a bit expensive here in our place. But even if we are on a tight budget, we still buy it because it is an absolute necessity!
Cheers!

I LOVE potatoes! In my family, if we do not have potatoes we have not had a meal.
Baked, fried, boiled, mashed.....
I buy them in 50 pound bulk. Never do they go to waste.
When we start getting to the bottom of them and they are needing used, we peel them, par-boil them, rinse in cool water and seal-a-meal them, then pop them in the freezer. Boil them in the seal-a-meal bag and they are ready to make mashed potatoes!
