What is it with men and their hearing?

I remember my mom being convinced that my dad had a hearing problem. We just thought he was tuning her out. He did finally go and get a hearing test though. Turned out his hearing was going a little bit. After that, whenever he would not hear something that Mom said, she would yell, "Ron, get a hearing aid"...
We always thought that was funny. Behind their back...
Sometimes I think R's hearing is going too. He went and took a test, and yup, it had deteriorated some. I've tried the "get a hearing aid" thing on him also. Not sure he sees the humor.
What is it with men and their hearing anyway?

Same thing that it is when they won't stop and ask for directions. Their pride. They don't like to think that they're no longer the great big he-men that they once were. Or thought they were. Someone should have written a training manual for the women who have to deal with 'em.

I know what you mean! I know 4 men I work with who are like that! Especially my gay friend Chris! He is always asking me why I never drink soda and I have told him numerous times why! Then Jeff anf Jesse are always asking was I was working at the stable in the mornings before work? I am telling them dimwits alot I am not right now and have to reapeat the same story all the time! GR! I try not to get angry but it is frustrating! Mark,my supervisor, can never remember when I have vacation or when I am needing a day off even after I write it down and his has the infromation on his bullentin board! The he will tell me my shift for the week the week I have vacation and then I tell I'm on vacation then he remembers! He listens better then must guys but he has his moments and is quite forgetful about so many things which is a whole different story! I once work with a guy who really had select hearing! Men like to just hear what they want to must of the time. Paul, the guys name, was extremely select hearing! He was always asking me stuff I told him numerous times! He did that with everyone! Other examples were with paydays, when pay periods ended and when they started and so much other stuff! He really pissed me off and I let him know it one day! I wanted to be happy I did this but mark was in the kitchen when I said and stood up for Paul! I was furious after that! Anyway men do it becuase they are MEN! It is not nice and no wonder there are times I want to hurt them!

It has to do with pride. Men do not want to admit that there is something wrong with them. That is why us women have to push them to go to the doctor's. Case in point, my brother was feeling sick and tired about ten years ago, when we had the flood of the century. WE got a letter and a phone call from my husband's brother that he had to go to the hospital and his friends at work had to drag him there kicking and screaming. He would not admit he was sick and that he had Hodkins Disease. Luckily he was cured, but men are like that. It is not just the hearing. Men think they are invincible.

My husband does have a hearing problem in one ear, has since I met him and I know the feeling, especially when I am sitting on the wrong side of him. I can never remember which ear, and nine times out of ten, I end up sitting on the wrong side whenever we go out, so he has to get up and move when I try to talk to him.. I probably also made that comment about getting a hearing aid over the years, but either he doesn't hear me, or he ignores me..

uuumm, its not just men. ive seen lots of women with this. the doctor told me, i dont have hearing loss but tenitis? i think thats the name where my ears ring and im dizzy from it at times. the doctor said most of this comes from listening to very loud music when young, etc. and lots of women also have that and hearing loss over it.

Some just plain choose and or opt not to hear. Thankfully I have someone at home who pays full attention. Funny too, because early on I would test him and say, repeat what I just said and he would word for word.
I think in general though some just plain feel that anything said can be said later so they don't really pay attention.

For a man to become And remain a husband, he has to get used to be yelled at. After a while He just stops trying to listen.Or it could be that their ears have to get used to the high pitch screams of their wives.

They like to think they're perfect just the way they are, selective hearing and all.

I think that they are denying that they are getting old. They think of themselves as young, desirable and fit.

I've never heard of a guy come home with a doctor's excuse for not listening...

My Dad is the same although he is in his 70s, so has an excuse I suppose. It's frustrating for Mum, though. If he's not facing her and only a few feet away she has to repeat herself countless times before he "gets it" and even then, he has the usual "Selective Hearing Syndrome" that he's had since I was little...listening to some things but not others.
He won't even go and see the doctor to see if his ears need syringing. I had that done and it's amazing how clear the hearing is afterwards.
He's such a stubborn so-an-so!

To get excess wax out of the ears. The nurse uses warm water to flush it all out and in all pops into a cardboard tray.
Lovely procedure!

I always thought they just ignored us. It sounds like they really can't hear us. No pun intended. I'm going to bet we are all going to take our husband/so to have their hearing checked now. Of course, a few of us will be ticked when we find out they can hear us and are choosing to ignore what we are saying. If I find out my husband is losing his hear, it will be an acted of congress to get him a hearing aid. Hope you have better luck then me. Best Wishes!

I have noticed that R can't focus on multiple things, and if there's a background noise forget it.

i think it's more of a doctor/money thing.
they see no problem with it,and refuse to go.
they just tell US we mumble instead in hopes of changing the subject.

Alot of men work around heavy and loud machinery when young and end up with hearing loss. Then there are the ones who listened to heavy rock at concerts and lost it that way. I think some just don't care and do not want to hear it. The tune out and light up. It is a pathetic thing these men.

I think men's sense of hearing is the first to go when they age. My father-in-law is a bit of a deaf already. He watches TV so loudly and would always ask what? whenever someone is talking to him.
I also think, my husband's hearing is a bit impaired already too. He would always not let you repeast what you are talking about if you are a bit of a distance from him.
