What does MyLot earn from us?

Good day Mylotters! After much time of thinking on this topic, and of some discussion postings in a friend's discussions, I decided to create this place, a place for us to discuss on how we think MyLot earns from us. I hope we can make it a discussion where many people will contribute with thoughts on this. So, let's start with the questions that troubled my mind: WHY does MyLot want us to create quality content in here? HOW exactly MyLot "uses" our discussions and topics and for what reason, too. WHO could get an advantage from this socializing place by monitoring the way users react and communicate? We start first with the obvious answers. MyLot can earn money by placing advertisements everywhere on the site. The advertisements, as most of you know, can pay not only by clicks but also by views. So we got some revenue there going towards MyLot. The discussions which end up long, with many comments back and forth and many users participating, will pay more, because they will be loaded again and again, as the users will check frequently to see the new comments added. A very long discussion will as a result pay the creator more earnings, as I am informed, than a discussion which is merely question and answer. This is the result of MyLot earning more from such long discussions from their advertisers, so they will move some of those earnings towards the Mylotter. So far, we have seen that long discussion=many page views=possibly more clicks on advertisements= more profit for Mylot, more earnings for the participants. Let's take it a bit further now. All these discussions and especially the tags added by the users make sure MyLot is an often Google result, and of couse also for other search results. Imagine all those pictures we have uploaded and tagged, all those topics we have participated. Every single of this will "fill up" the worldwide web, letting traces deeply inside which will bring visitors for many years to come. This kind of advertising is hard to beat. I hope my friends get what I mean - we are many, we post much and upload much, we make MyLot popular and keep it inside search results. Mind also that many people who came here through Google are not Mylotters - try to add up now all those advertisement earnings. Even further now. Isn't MyLot a good way for companies to gain an insight on how their target (we, humans) think? Let's see an example - a food company could check discussions inside Food interest to see what people think of their products, what changes they would prefer, etc. This is actually the place where wide level research can be done. The discussions of mylotters are watched, the way people react with each other here, the way the arguments occur can give information to people who would benefit from it. That's why long discussions are more profitable, they provide bigger interaction between the users, thus create more space for different ideas and thoughts. Now we can check it from a wider aspect. We are people from many nations, yet we all communicate with each other and interact with many ways. Isn't this a good chance for some people (don't ask me which people, you understand who would benefit from such)to see how different people from allover the work interact and what their differences are? Could this even be a way that would lead to assumptions about the differences between the way of thinking of people from different races, different sexes, different ages, etc.? Did I take it too far? Possibly, but we are here and we can all discuss these. What are your thoughts on all those I stated? Can you give some more suggestions on what MyLot or other, unknown sides, could be earning from us?

That is all a possiblility and not much we can do anything about it. If the companies do that here they are probably doing it elsewhere as well. How is any of this huring us? And how can we be sure Mylot is actually gaining revenue from our long and indepth discussions. It is free for anyone who is a member to read.

I am sure many other companies are doing this same thing. And it seems to be a normal incounter these days. If members of Mylot find this unfair they should go else where. I think they will find it anywhere they go if it is plausible.

Hi makatas! The difference between Mylot with other forums is the content and the responds made by the members. I never saw a forum with warm conversation like here in Mylot. The more quality our posts I think it will lead for better understanding between one member to another. Yeah, I am sure we are informed that they have rights to use our discussions in other sites. Profits for sure~ I am not sure they are monitoring the way people communicate and react as the most important reason is how people use this site to discussing and communicate things with each other.

Hello CTHanum! I did not say that MyLot is the one monitoring our discussions and interaction. I am just thinking that maybe some of the content here is kept for future or even present purposes, including giving it to people of the marketing sector. I will insist that I reckon these assumptions made by me and other Mylotters in here to be more than reasonable. Companies would pay big bucks for such high level research into people interests.
