i just wonder how many times "Jose Rizal" is being repeated everyday on tv. from morning till night, i haven't watched a news show that dont tackle about a little of Rizal.
Rizal's love life, Rizal's grandchildren, Rizal's bloodline (he was said to have Chinese blood), Rizal's face on the philippines money, Rizal's statues all over the world, Rizals, house and other properties, Rizal's clothes, and last but definitely not the least.... Rizall memorabilias.....
it's not that i hate him or that im being so negative, it's just that i think the news are over reacting about Rizal... hhmmm.....

hi tammy27,,
We Filipino's must be proud to have a Filipino like him. So disappointing to heard it from a Filipino. My family are Rizalista from the very root of my family that's why we are using the Family name "ARIZALA". From the very start of my life i never get ashamed to have this Name, and you by just repeatedly watching news about him in just almost weeks, you get sick. So really i was so sad to hear from you. But anyway it's your opinion and all of us had different insight. But we must remember what he have done to our country, and it must be treasure by all Filipino's around the World.

Hi spockers, that ARIZALA thing is totally interesting. But I misunderstood tammy's title, too. She explained that she has nothing against Rizal, it is the media and its exaggeration of the life and loves of our hero that she didn't take to heart. Sometimes, when media programs are presented ala another scoop about Dennis Trillo, it becomes disgusting. The media should have been more careful in presenting our Pepe, the lover boy.... Oooops, please don't get angry huh, but truth is, our Joe had many girlfriends.

yup, that's true. I think I read something that describe Dr. Rizal as a chickboy, proof is that in every house that he stay, even in his dearest friends, he always courted the daughter. Many time, like in the house of the Bousted family i think it's in Biarritz. There he was warmly welcome by the family Bousted, and he courted the daugther of the family, name Nelly. So even that he is not so tall, he, by many Rizalista describe him as a chickmagnet.hehe,

ma'am eileenleyve, We are from family of "ARIZALA'. We will clarify that we are saying that we had a blood of Rizal, but some rumor about it from our family. We are a Big family here in Masbate, but from some research done by our clan, we are trace that it is possible that we are from Zambales or somewhere in mindanao. So Many of us conscious about the possibility of having the bloodline of Rizal, but until now, we had no proof. So maybe our root or our great grandfather is a true loyalist of rizal, so he changes his name to Arizala to honor that great Filipino.

That is the job of the media. To put people of interest in the faces of the public. I don't know who this Jose Rizal is but he must have done something of interest to put him out there like that. And the media will run every little thing they learn about him too. You can count on that!

am afraid i felt offended by the title of the discussion that spark me to explain myself as a Filipino lotter about Jose Rizal.
here's the English version of it.

haha maybe yes.. i think i have had enough of this too.. i was close to vomiting when they also interviewed cesar montano in the news by jessica soho.. i mean. what the??! he is not rizal. he played the role before but that does not make him an expert about this person... hehe

So, who else needs to be interviewed about rizal? cesar was probably available and also a filipino. which particularly gives him the right to speak about our heroes. we ALL should be expert about Jose Rizal because he was not only part of our history but also our education.

@cChiyosan: it's not thaat i dont respect rizal or what... it's just tat i think the media is over reacting on it. in the Umagang kay Ganda yesterday they interviewed a man who was said to be Rizal's great grand son. and in the TV patrol last night they interviewed a girl who was said to be Rizal's great grand daughter. i was like... "woah... this is too much." hehe
@LetranKnight: i do respect your opinions, friend. but for me i dont think all should be expert, i think it's enough that we know who Rizal is and what he contributed to this country. we dont need to go down deep and trace his blood or roots or whatever.

You need to be an expert. People and the media just want to spread the word around. That's why the media is clamoring on interviewing every Filipino who is related by Rizal by blood or by marriage. In this instance, the media is doing the public some good by providing facts and making the memory of Rizal fresh in-their minds.
@chiyosan. I think Cesar Montano has a credibility to speak about Rizal. As an actor, he immersed himself in anything Rizal. I will bet he spend some days, thinking, waking, sleeping, eating and living like Rizal. You don't get to play a role if you don't have a single thing to know about the character that your playing. It takes a lot of research and consultation before finally getting what goes in Rizal's head.

Well Tammy, in case you didn't know, we are celebrating Jose Rizal's 150th birth anniversary. This is the same reason why Monday, June 20 was declared a holiday. It is not like this happens every year. This year is just special because it's his 150th birth anniversary. Please do not think that the media is "over-reacting" We commemorate Rizal because he is one of the Philippines' greatest heroes, who despite his stature in life, being well educated and all, still fought for the freedom of his countrymen. He is a good man, one that should be emulated by our current leaders and even the youth of today. Commemorating Rizal's life and work is not at all bad because it reminds us of who we are and who we should be as Filipinos. Please do not be irritated by its presence on tv. Don't worry, it will all be over soon. For now, just be proud that we have Rizal as our hero because I doubt if you can find anyone like him in these times.

Actually, Tammy, I think it is the media's strategy to discuss his life as a "real person" to bring him closer to the youth, to let them know that yes, he is like us too. He fell in love, he got heartbroken, he was a bit naughty kid, he had so many siblings, etc. Like Jazel said, it makes him REAL, reachable and that he was one of us, human and all. I actually find it quite interesting, especially about him being a womanizer. Don't get me wrong, he's not ugly, but he's no Piolo Pascual either. So, why is he a "chick magnet" during his times? And with all the studying and the writing and the fighting for freedom thing, how does he squeeze in courting so many women? Amazing man!

know what? those stuff about his love life, children and those other personal stuff..those stuff are what makes him a person, makes him REAL. That he is also normal amidst the fact that he is a genius! So it is also nice to talk about it..that he is human too.

you know what, you're right.. this will be over soon. i was just hoping that instead of tackling about his love life and his grand children and his houses, i was just hoping the media would tackle about his life when it was starting to be difficult and those efforts he did to spread his word.

Um, I just learned that it is the hottest news of time.
I remember college days when we portrayed the life of Rizal where I was the Josephine Bracken... :-) If it was not a requirement for our final, I will not be experiencing that historical scene. :-)

i just can't forget what Rizal's said:
"he who don't know how to speak the native Filipino Language are more smelly than a decayed fish"
but try too understand more deeply...
why is it that Jose Rizal knows plenty of plenty of Foreign Languages?????
and to take a note that you can't learn one foreign language in a month only,
meaning, it takes years to learn just one foreign language...
meaning, Jose Rizal use to speak different Foreign Languages throughout his lifetime....
meaning,
Jose Rizal is more and more smelly than a plenty of corpses decayed fishes nyahahahaha

Actually, from what i have learned in my History classes, i believed Rizal was able to learn it faster than an average human being because he is in the genius level, and so what if he learned those many languages? Still he knows tagalog, he wrote in tagalog even..
who is more of a family to you? one who speaks tagalog but acts as if he was born in America and would not even patronize any Filipino product or ways.. or one who barely know how to speak tagalog but a Filipino deep within?
Plus, there is more to him than just being that. With his writings he was able to transmit and pass on culture. It is no laughing matter because it is a sad fact already that Filipino teens barely know anything about him.

Jose Rizal was killed because he continued writing about the negativities and "evilness" of the Spaniards and he is doing all he could to spread his world though he is in the prison... that's the reason why he was killed.
and about the smelly fish, the genius thing, and whatsoever. first we dont know what's Rizal's inner reason of wanting to learn all those languages. second he is not a genius, he is just exerting all efforts he could to be able to show his love for his country by helping Filipino people. that's why he tried his best to be an ophthalmologist and all that because he knew that those spaniards wont help us Filipinos. he was just mature, and i dont think he is a genius.
but i guess, it's better to be interested about Rizal though one dont know much about him. than be very much educated about his life but fully shows that he/she is not interested about it.

so,
if we are not genius like Rizal, is it a smelly fish for us to learn plenty and plenty of foreign languages?
it could takes us 35 years to learn plenty of languages,
meaning,
whole life learning languages
and Rizal have no right to stop us Filipinos from learning foreign languages....
the reason why Roman Catholics killed Rizal

Fortunately for me, I don't watch so many local TV. I also hate the news because most of them are bad news. A little percent is only dedicated to good news - few to none. However, I like to see new research or finds about Rizal. Spare me the Rizal that I know from college textbooks. I'd like something intriguing or something new but I only want to see it when I want to.

It is because he is now at his 150th birthday so kinda thing to celebrate about. For the next 50 years nothing really special going to happen but if his birthday reaches 200, there will be a "Rizal thing" again.
Oh well you should be proud instead of pissed, that man is a hero and did everything for the love of county. Media is just making new generation aware about him since most of them are now clueless about him..cheers!

It's just gonna be for a day. The least you could do is give Rizal one day to be the star. haha! If you can't do that then try closing your eyes. :))

it's the filipino culture. its just their way of letting people know how much rizal mean to them. we really cannot change that. and i don't think they are over reacting too, like i said it's just their way. i thank them for the holidays too. haha
