this spratly islands issues had never been resolved. it had been in history for a countless of decades already. since i was in high school almost two decades ago, it's a celebrated news already. it was never given importance by the international community. now the issues are on its heights. both the philippines and china are showing their mights in terms of patrolling reconnaissance vessels. what these events show? US is mum on the issue. it just stated that they will never participate, just in case there will be war escalating on the misunderstandings of china and philippines..
where does this spratly islands issues going? for more info..here is a url you can visit: http://ph.news.yahoo.com/china-stages-military-drills-south-china-sea-062421991.html
afterwhich..post comments..let's brainstorm together and help save human lives threatened by this imposing military exercises over the spratly islands..

I think war will not occur with the issue. With this age of globalization, It is hardly unimaginable that the other countries of the world will not take action to stop a world war from coming out. Also, a lot of countries all over the globe has a mission and vision of world peace. Anyway, I think negotiations and further agreements will ensue with this issue. I just hope no random missile bombardment will occur. I hope this issue with the Spratly Islands will be resolved the soonest time possible.

speaking of missiles, i believe the philippines do not have. they are just taking shades over the shadows of the technologies of other countries, the US most likely. but we do not know. north korea was able to launch nukes to south korea and the latter retaliated. everything is possible. including a bilateral negotiations.

yes the philippines is a nuke free country. thanks to innovative filipinos way back in the 90s when they made all the efforts to close down the Bataan nuclear power plant. you may have just misunderstood it. i am doing parallelism here. it was possible for north korea to release nuke for south and south retaliated. but in the case of the philippines, what i mean is anything could be possible which includes bilateral negotiations. i did not mention sending nukes. just saying anything is possible. we do not know what could it be. i am just pro-active. i prefer to make plans before crossing the brige. rather deal the thing when i had alread crossed the bridge.

Correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I know, the Philippines is a nuclear free country. Hence, no nuclear missiles is expected from the Philippines. Also, there are groups in the Philippines which protests regarding nuclear activity in the Philippines.

I don't think it'll start another world war. It seems even though they're fighting for the area, everything is taking place in an organized manner. Maybe then everything was all heated up that's why it started a war but that was then. People fighting for it were different and I think the people today are more rational than then.

Maybe so but I still don't think it would start a world war. These people are too well-organized and formal to do that.

why not? the more organized people they are, the more formal could be the war. anyway, war now a days is fought in so many ways. take september 11, 2001. no one knows it would happen. but it was a declaration of war. and the one who declared it is barking at the right tree, at the right time but was outwitted in the long run. war is not won because of resources, but through tactics.

great idea there..i feel the same..but things seems to be getting out of rationality concept. we can see that they are showing off who is who..

The Philippines will probably lose. See China's population alone and compare it with Philippine's. If all their men will wage war against Filipino men who are trying to earn a living to feed their families, the Philippines will surely lose that war. Second, look at China's economy and compare it with the Philippines' and along with it the corruption. That war would just be a very quick push of the nuclear button and boom! the Philippines vanishes into thin air.

good point there...on the other hand, can't they solve the issue through a bilateral means? if given for instance there will be war, other countries with claims over spratly islands, like vietnam, brunei, malaysia and the likes will likely join the war..and we will be speaking a violation on the united nations charter. we have to think that both countries had signed the UN charter. do you think other members of UN will not look into it and solve the issue? are we saying here that, we will wait for a scene on both countries before we can get the attention of the international community to solve the issue - like calling for a bilateral talks between two countries?

I do have a positive outlook on the Spratlys problem. They will most probably come up with a solution and/or negotiation without waging war, at least later. People are more civilized nowadays. We have better abilities to negotiate/ meet halfway. I am positive that we have already learned from History what the consequences of war are. We also have the UN to watch over both parties.

nice..me too. i am looking forward for a bilateral negotiations over the disputed islands. though i have reservations for some ulterior political agenda on both parties. there must be something on that issue that we normal people cannot know. but in the long run, i think we will.

Its an issue, but I think it has been marginalized by bigger ones, like global war on terror, global warming, looming food crisis, running out of crude oil.

I just hope it will not . Filipino are gentle people and do not want war or any conflict with her neighboring country. We don't provoke war, we don't sustain war and as much as people want peace. It is not that we lack the ability to depend our rights but it is in the system, we don't like to annoy those who brings money and good fortunes to our people! We are submissive as long as we can to protect lives and the security of having a good life. So sad but it's the truth!

Hi ladyphoenix i don't think there would be a war because presently there will be no nation who will think of war from china. As we all are aware Phillipines as compare to china is a very small country and cannot afford to have a war with it. US also i think is mum because it also don't want to make its relations worse.China in todays time is not far from US it is also like US in all respect.

i do hope, too. but their actions is telling something. they can make people paranoid and government panick. at this times, i think the world had enough of wars and is rying all means to live peacefully. but showing off their mights like that is really something.
