i detest all these new celebratory days. Birthdays, christmas, fathers day, mothers day, grandmothers day, grandfathers day and babysitters day!!!!
these are invented by the greedy card companys' who make a fortune because people buy the cards as they do not want to appear mean.
supermarkets reap massive benefits as well, selling flowes and chocolates.
i have always hated these false celebrations but when my 9 year old daughter gave me her card and present i melted and turned into a two faced hypocrite!
do you pontificate the moral wrongs of these events and then smile sweetly as you get a present or do you think they are justified?

Wouldn't it be great to honor our fathers? Well, whoever invented it cannot extract money out of me because I'm not buying anything for my dad. There are better ways to spend Father's day like spending quality time with him or doing his chores. All you need is to be creative. If your father is in his old age all alone, pay him a visit. If you're not in good terms with your dad, you can forgive and let him know that. There are lots of reasons why we should honor our father even if some of them are rude. Sometimes they're just trying to appear strong because that's what the society expects of them but the truth is they also have fears of their own, they don't just show it. They're not Superman, they're human and as everyone is, fathers will always have a soft spot in their hearts.

I do agree about this to some extent, however I like to be able to have the opportunity to appreciate my Mother and Father and have a day where I can honestly say to them that I appreciate what they have done for me. I had a wonderful weekend this weekend because I spent it with the people who I love. You don't have to spend a lot of money, you can get cards for less than $1, and you can spend whatever you like on presents, it's more about what you do to show your family that you love them and you will be there for them.

Wouldn't it be great to have a day honoring our fathers? Well, whoever invented it, can't extract money out of me because I'm not buying anything for my father. There are better ways to honor our father besides giving material things. We can be creative. Love is the most important. Spending time with him would be great. If he's in his old age all alone, it would be a great time to pay him a visit. If you're in good terms with your father, this is the time to forgive. Also, Fathers' Day is not the only day that ought to do loving and honoring our fathers. We love and honor our fathers everyday of our lives for so many reasons. No matter how rude some fathers are, they will always be our fathers, trying to look strong, but in truth are only humans who may not know what to do.

That makes two of us ajk. I too do not believe in those 'days' - father's, mother's, senior's, birthdys, christmas.......... the list goes on. Right through the year there will be no contact but come 'days'the phone rings, the inbox gets loaded, the postman delivers. Ooof! and money gets loaded into the coffers of all those florists, card makers, the malls.
Why give anyone an opportunity to be a hypocrite?

Are these really new? I think they're a good excuse for people to get together, and yeah, Valentine's day was just invented for card companies, but it's really good for relationships to refresh. I don't think there is anything wrong with using holidays for marketing, if they benefit everyone.
