I need to get a new anti-spyware for my netbook preferably free. Alas it's been invaded and it needs a good cleaning and then some. Window's keeps prompting me to buy theirs, I dunno if it's part of the virus or ?

My computer expert friend recommended to my Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. It's free and it has worked well for me.

Your welcome. I hope it works for you. I put a lot of stock in what my friend recommends. He takes care of all the computer stuff for a local college.

I am currently using Avast Home edition, which I think it's quite good. Most of all, it's free. You just need to re-register the software annually, and you get update virus definition always. I have recently heard about Microsoft Security Essentials which is free too, I have not try it myself.

Bunny, do you update your anti-virus regularly? You should update every day, as new viruses are being churned out hourly! If you don't update it, it won't catch the newest ones.

SuperAntiSpyware! I know the software sounds lame, but it does work. It worked for me when all other malware softwares failed me. :)

You're looking for spybot. http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html Update it first before you scan and fix and then do passive protection for future spywares. The Free version of AVG also has an anti-spyware with it. What anti-virus are you using?

I use a bunch of "free" stuff to protect my computer. First I use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. I also have a free download of Avast, along with free versions CCleaner and Spybot. I downloaded all of them free from CNET which is a good protected site. I haven't had any problems. Good luck!

We've been using Microsoft Security Essentials on both of our desktop computers for quite some time and we have it on our laptop as well. I think that it is really good and is a great way to protect the computer upfront. When I've actually had viruses that I've gotten I've also got Malware Bytes and Super Anti Spyware that I will run as well. Those are great for getting rid of something that is already on your system. And, best of all, they are all free.

Panda Cloud is good, as is Avast and they are both free. AVG has a great reputation but the last time my PC crashed and burned the tech said he'd had several like mine come in--the update to AVG messed up their systems. So I won't have AVG anymore! Be sure to get free MalWare Bytes, it's great at blocking and quarantining malware and you should run it at least once a week. Spybot Search and Destroy is great, too. I usually run my MalWare Bytes and Spybot in the evening while I'm doing other things. You might even download these two things and run them before you get a new antivirus, they might take care of the problem.

I recently added avast free antivirus. So far it hasn't caused any problems and it has alerted me to pages that were blocked because of problems. I don't know if any are better or not. Before I had avira, but it kept telling me things that I was downloading (backups for my sites) were infected and would put my files in quarantine. That hasn't happened since I changed so hopefully this one is really better. I avoid buying anything! If I can get it free, why pay?

I mainly used Spybot for my spyware. It's free and I've used it for years. Right now I just have the stuff that comes with my Road Runner subscription.. though my computer is still messed up from that virus I got a couple weeks ago.. none of the scans I ran was able to find it completely. GRR. I'm going to need to totally restore it at this point.
