Now that I have talked to the servers here they are trying to really substitute low calorie less sweet desserts for what is on the menu and as a result I am having lower blood sugar readings all the time This is just a little thing but its giving me a really big results. I was just thinking there must be other instances in which a little change in something can bring great bigf results in one's life Your take on this mylotters.

"Sometimes little things can be really big" I have a mirror that does that! If I stand a certain way it can make me look impressive. Also, if I want to squeeze a zit it is most helpful. In fact it's so good that often it's not even a zit that I am squeezing and I can be there for hours trying to get nothing out of nowhere. Follicles I hear you cry, and you'd be right! :P

Hello Ms Hatley, That's true. Even how small we did, it does not matter for we know that Big Things start from Smaller Things. My parents say, It is a must that when we think, Think Deeper and when we dream, Dream Bigger. No matter how small we did, we should be proud that we did our best. Thanks Dennis

hi thefarmersson I was just thinking of a poem a teacher read to us back in grade school. If you cannot be the biggest grandest tree on the top of the hell, just be the best prettiest little bush on the side hill you can be. IN other words little things canalso be really big if you just do your best.

You have named sugars and salts as changes we can make. Other things that help are to get a little fresh air and sunshine daily and also to make sure that you get enough sleep and maybe get a little more movement in. I am trying the sleep, fresh air and sunshine. I hope I do not go overboard too often on sweets. Trying to be cautious with salt as well. I think it is important to make one change at a time and get it under control.

hi garden gerty thats exactly what my doctor told me, just take one change at a time and you will find you really stick to them. I am so guilty of not getting enough fresh air and sunshine. I stay in my room on my computer typing like mad, my tablemate at lunch Steve asked me if I had been outside as it was a lovely day. I had to admit I had not and he shook his head. I know I should take a little time off and get some sun and breathe some fresh air too.

Hatley, try some lemon juice on your food if it is available. It is better than salt.Of course drinking water will help flush the salt from your system. I hope that they will help you with less salty foods as well.

hi rich odd you should say that as day before yesterday we had veal parmesahn with a too sweet tomato sauce on it for lunch and a hour later I felt really ill so then at dinner we had barbeques pork on a bun with mnore too too sweet tomato sauce and by nine that night after talking to my son on the phone I had to run to the bathroom and heaved the whole tomato mess up all over the floor. Now I am leery of any of their dishes with that too sweet tomato sauce. I love tomatoes. I am thinkng maybe a little vinegar or even lime juice might cut that cloying sweet taste a bite. I used Barellis tomato sauce with garlic and basil weh I was still cooking for my self as it was tangy but not sweet. some manujfactured are full of brown sugar and molasses which makes it too too sweet. Barellis contains no sugar at all.

My four day and three night vacation made a big difference in our lives for about two weeks. My sleeping habits were better for that long, so was my daughter's and grandsons. My doctor upped my meds by 15mg. and I actually saw a little light at the end of the tunnel. A real glimmer of hope. Glad to hear that your blood sugar readings are better.

Yes, that's true, little things can be really big. I noticed that because i would always wash the dishes every after meal, i don't develop a very big belly. I would really wash the dishes slowly so it will take me a little bit longer to be able to stand. Then, when i would scrub our bedroom's floor, i would wash the rag at the comfort room, so i could go back to and fro every time. That way, i got to exercise myself by walking to and fro. These are small things that helps me a lot in preventing myself from getting big.

hi simplyd in other words you are adding a little extra to your housework to make a good exercise scheme out of it.More power to you for not letting yourself get big. So many women do not realize a lot of diabetics got that way when they let themselves develop a middle aged spread around the tummy. overweight seems to keep our natural insulin from guiding the sugar into our muscle cells where we' need it for energy and instead leaves too much sugar in our blood which is not good for any of our organs.I think if the American Diabetes Assoc. would inform young women that letting themselves gain too much wait can easily lead to getting diabetes. so losing even fiftee percent of overweight the doctors claim will help control the blood sugar. I do wish I had never let myself get heavy in my fifties.little things like 15 percent weight loss c an control blood sugar and on those who are not diabetics can prevent a woman from getting diabetes.

hi simplyD thats a great way to think as staying slim and healthy is much easier in the long run than trying to lose weight and get'rid of a large tummy. the weight around the tummy is according to nmy doctor the one for worry as that's usually where diabetes starts as the fat cells interfere with the insulin herding the sugar into the muscle cells where it is needed so the sugar ends up in our blood and makes various organs ill. so do keep your medium body build slim and avoid diabetes completely. that's the way to go.wish I had done that. also I wish my mom had told me she had type 2 diabetes as then I think I would have learned I had a big chance of getting diabetes from inheritance but by losing weight could have by passed it. I guess then diabetes was thought by her to be shameful. Now our diabetes educators tell us that moderation is the key in the way we diabetics eat. few foods are really forbiddenbut some must be in real moderation. by using my meter to check my blood sugar often i can know what foods cause my own body to shoot up my blood sugar and what foods I can eat in moderation that do not raise my blood glucose level at all. rice is one I can only eat a few teaspoonsful as anymore and my blood sugar level will be much too high.

I think, in my wish to more or less maintain my medium built body, i do the chores as an exercise. In addition, i try to eat in moderation . BUt when it is inevitable that i eat what's more than what is moderate, i would compensate it with vigorous exercise. I want to be healthy so i maintain my body and avoid getting big.

I am also very overweight at 205 and was so happy when I had hurt my leg and was in the rehab hosptital they weighed me after a week and I was down to 194 so I was thrilled at that.now I have gaine it back here. but their food there at the rehab was really a diabetic diet with smaller portions and less starchy stuff too. here they use a lot of rice and pasta. I have been halving portions lately and am hoping that helps some.

Cutting things you are allergic to out of your diet or avoiding contact with them can make a very big difference in how you feel...tired/itchy/sluggish. Salts/Sweets are the same. Adding more water to your diet will make a difference too. I've noticed even things like...stress or missing someone can make big changes in your health.

hi saundyl I have read that shell fish are one allergen that a ton of people are allergic to.also plain old peanuts too. Me I am allergic to something over here around my desk as I will sit down here and start typing and then I sneeze. go for an hour and sneeze again and again. after so much of this I just get up and take some benadryl .it stops the sneezing. I think it is dust mites and dust.I saw a child that someone had given a sandwich to start to wheeze and her mom got out an apparatus for asthma and handed it to her. Her mom said she is allergic to peanuts and she would bet that whoever made that sandwich had it next to peanuts or peanut butter.I advised them to go to Western Medical center as they were just a block away and go to the ER as peanut allergy is noting to fool around with.they did as I suggested. my bus came so I had no idea how the little girl fared.

yes you are right. i noticed when i eat some things i just feel all bogged down and am even more sluggish and tired then ever. sometimes i envy you with getting the help you do. having your meals fixed and someone there when you take a shower in case you slip or fall over. i have these dizzy spells that concern me about slipping in the shower with no one that can help me out. so recently i ordered a shower chair. this is going to help me a lot. it will make a great difference.

hi no I have not asked a care giver to help; me shower and as I have a balance problem I do get scared of falling in the shower. there are two steel bars no three but one is a hard plastic and a shower hand held nozzle that I am getting used to using . the things that bother me are no bath math non slip thing in the tub and no bath mat on the floor in the bathroom.so I have improvised with a big bath towel on the floor and in the shower I am hanging onto that bar. I would feel safer with 'a rubber bath mat like we had in our old room. My pride will not let me ask for a care taker to help me but maybe I should.Oh that shower chair will really help you a lot.I think the hand held spray thing is going to be great once I hold it correctly so I do not get the towel I hung on the top of the glass door wet. I kept it there to wipe water out of my eyes. I admit i am scared while showering alone. My roomie gets help as when she first came here she had a broken back operated on. they asked meif I want a caretaker to give me a shower but no not really if I can just make it safer.

Too true Hatley; it sure can be the little things that make the big difference in the long run. It is great that they’ve made changes to your dietary requirements, that will definitely help a great deal with your health and it is great to hear that you are taking good care of yourself. In my life if my husband stopped the snide remarks about how little I am contributing financially to the household and supported me a little more with all that is required of me as a wife and mother our marriage would be a lot stronger, as you say it is the little things and gestures that make all the difference.

hi paula why are some men like that ,as if they think a mom ahnd housewife does not do a damned thing. my dad jused to do that to my mom.so when my dear hubby would grab the vacuum cleaner and started vacuuming I was shocked. I even said: "what the hell are y ou doing?" He laughed and told me he was going to help me with the house work as two babies only 11 months apart were dragging me down.I was thrilled as i had not even suggested that he helped. having grown up with a dad who did not coo k and never ever offered to do anything around the house as that was women's work I did not know some men would help their wives. He also loved to bathe and put the babies down in the evening. He told them bedtime stories. A man if he helps even just a little bit can save a woman so much energy.Little things but they mean a lot to a tired overworked woman.I think you need to have a firm talking to said hubby and perhaps get him to a marriage counselor too. It would not hurt him a bit to help you around the house a bit.

"small things come in big packages" How disappointing is that? You receive a large package and after unwrapping it, find a small thing inside. I know you can't expect to get a large thing in a small package, that would be too hopeful. Unless you could shrink it and then make it bigger when exposed to the right conditions. You think?

I agree with you! Great things happen that begins with just a little things or a small decision we take. Small choices in our life often become a big things. An example is our choice when we are heading in the direction where when we get out of the house, will probably lead to great things or great happen in our next experiences.

Hi hatley, concerning about health sake we should take the right healthy and nutritious food to take good care our body health. not all good foods are suitable for all right. It's depending on what we need according to our need. Let say about the earning here, we don't look down upon it's so wee, but we know well that many little makes a mickle if we keep on working often in the right way but not indulge in writing discussion without the effort to add comment There is a chinese saying, a single spark can start a prairie fire, therefore we must be aware that every little thing in the beginning is certainly important as it can big result no matter it's good or bad deed. It was accidental b ut still deadly. I have learned now what is safe for me to enjoy and what is not and to ignore well meaning peo ple who want to treat you with the wrong foods. just say no so simple if one just does it.

Hi Hatley! Glad to hear that you are reducing your sugar readings. I know how important that can be for a Diabetic since my girlfriend is one and watches everthing she eats. She sometimes will "cheat" but she knows exactly how much "sugar points" are in everything pretty much. I don't have to watch my sugar (at least not yet), but I do have to watch my cholesterol which was "off the charts high" last month. I was skipping days to stretch my meds (due to insurance) and my doc guessed it! Apparently, it was really throwing me off because I watch what I eat. Saw him the other day, but thought it was too soon to test again. Keep up the good work and I do know how difficult it is!

Yes. for the last two months or so I have started taking Oats with milk and a little sugar in it for breakfast. I have started liking it and it suits my stomach also. The same oats I was hesitating to take in india because we had other items with which I was more familiar - Idly, Vada, Dosa, Bonda, Upma --like that. Necessity is the mother of invention. circumstances make us change --sometimes into good. have a nice day.

hi rittersport I remember those days of getting up ,fixing a quick breakfast and catching the bus down 8 blocks to the library then wrestling with the burglar alarm and hoping not to set off the fire alarm. Usually I was okay and was hard at work when the librarians and other pages came in, then is when I had a lot of walking at work shelving books so I belonged to the 10000 steps club then. wow now I am overweight and stove up and using a walker still need some way to really exercise even with the dratted walker.
