Do you earn a living just working from home or do you have a full time job. I have a full time job and work on the net whenever I have some free time. The amount that I earn is not enough for me to even think of sitting at home and earning. Is it possible for someone to manage the family expenses with online earnings.

Hello Mayka, For the last four years, I am doing home-based online job in medical transcription. Nowadays, there are many fields where one can earn good living from home. Some can be listed as follows: 1. Animation and graphics. 2. Software development. 3. Web designing/hosting. 4. Online counseling. 5. Private online coaching. 6. Online marketing. 7. General and medical transcription. 8. Consultations on horoscope etc. 9. Freelancer 3D Max/Auto CAD designer. 10. Online legal consultations or Legal process outsourcing. and so on... There are multiple benefits of doing a home-based online job, like: 1. Save travel time: One might spend one to two hours or more in a day to commute to the office. This time can be used in a more productive way which in turn can increase one's monthly earnings. 2. Save travel cost: One might be spending a good amount on fuel or transport to commute to the office, which can now be converted into one's monthly saving. 4. Avoid the risk of traveling: In today’s chaotic traffic, home based job is best way to avoid road rage incidents, to avoid air/noise pollution. In this way we can go Green and be responsible to our environment. 3. Stay with your family: This is an ideal opportunity for all the people who have relocated to bigger cities in search of better jobs. Through home-based jobs one can stay with family and enjoy his/her work. 4. Reduce your cost of living: We always have an option to relocate to a smaller city where the cost of living like monthly rental, land value, vegetables, fruits, etc is much lesser than the bigger cities. Home-based job also gives us an option to relocate to a city with lesser pollution and in turn we can enjoy fresh air. and so on...

Medical transcripting does sound interesting. Do you need some extra qualifications or extra coaching for that? You have mentioned general transcripting too. Could you guide me as to where that job is available...that is if you know?

Legal process outsourcing sounds interesting. Would you know somebody who is doing that? I would be interested, and a couple of my friends would be too. :)

Hi Vandana, LPO comes under KPO (knowledge process outsourcing) under BPO. LPO is for Legal graduates, law students, and lawyers. It is one of the best career options during and after LLB (especially for female lawyers who can earn good from home ) For further information on LPO, you can check this website: www.mindlawtraining.com have a great day.

Hello mayka, long time no see. :) Ok..as to your question, it depends upon how much you need, and how disciplined you can be. When we work outside, we are constantly fearing somebody above us, so that fear is what makes us regular. Can you be confident about yourself that you wont make excuses to quit working and start surfing, or watch movies? If and only if you can, you should consider online or work at home. A major drawback of online earning is the tax treatment. It wont get you the deductions that you would get as a salaried individual. So you do need to consider that aspect as well. Similarly benefits like PF, ESI, would have to be fogone. In my case, my employers didnt implement them but if you are working where such rules are applicable, please dont consider leaving job as yet. You can think of it after you are able to earn regularly at least 20 to 30 percent of what you earn in you full time job, and any such online job should have good potential. Okies? All the best.

I have been away from mylot for quite some time. Started this discussion because I am seriously thinking of getting an internet connection at home. So for this I have to make sure it is worth it. Have been falling sick often these past few months. So was wondering if I have to ever stay at home whether I would be able to increase my earnings. Just now because I only log in through my office I do not get much income. In fact in mylot I do not remember when was the last I reach payout. This month is now out of the question but next month mylot is definitely sending me something to my paypal . My present job is not giving me any benefits like PF etc. It is just a fixed salary and a bonus before Diwali. That too I believe is not given every year so cannot depend upon that. I am searching for more genuine sites online now.

@mayka ..falling sick often is one of the signs of getting overstressed. Please check whether the source of your stress is essentially your job or your immediate surrounding and try to bring that down. If you can honestly blame your job for it, then may be quitting and look at other options as nishant has suggested here, and as I have mentioned in my pm to you might be worth considering. But if the source of stress is home, there is simply no point in leaving a regular job. Instead you would have to consider how best you can solve the stress there. Eat well, and take plenty of fluids.

I use to work at home making things to sell. I made a good living for my children and myself. I also made signs. That was years ago. Now I just do online things when my health allows it and my husband makes the majority of our living now. When my health was good and even better we both worked and made about the same. I wish I could make a living completely from working online because if anything happened to him then I would not have to worry.

I did enjoy it at first and at times, but like anything there are times when you get tired of doing anything and it becomes a chore even doing something you enjoy. I can tell you that you can make a living at home using the computer. My daughter did. She has many children and it did not pay her to work outside the home. She would have had to pay a sitter and such but she made $11 and sometimes more working on the computer so there is work out there you just need to find it being and independent contractor like she was.

Making things at home and selling them sounds interesting. I am sure you must have been enjoying your work. Life is unpredictable and it is really nice if both are able to earn decently so if one has to be at home the house will still keep running.

I think it's possible mayka. It may take time and a lot of hard work but it's very feasible. I'm earning a few dollars online. I'm looking forward to make a big purchase out of it, hihihi... I'd be very happy though when the time comes that I can earn a living out of my online works.

I dont know of any site where we get dollars a day. Every where it is just a few cents that does not add to a dollar at all. Atleast that has been my experience.

Me too! I have a regular job which entails me to put in most of my time. I only do online earning when I have the time and during my leisure hours. The thought of trying to earn solely online caught my attention, but with what I have now and my experiences doing so, I think I won't be able to earn much and sustain living if I try to do it. But I know some users in here living out the life on purely online earnings. They have a nice base of sites and ways to earn online. And of course, they exert much of their effort doing so. With my current situation, I feel that I cannot exert such effort in trying to earn online. Also, I want to use up the things I learn from the university, that is why I am sticking on my regular job for fulfillment and apply the things I have worked hard during the college years. I just use online earnings to be productive while on the internet. A few extra income while having fun on the internet won't really hurt, would it?

I am having serious problems with my current job and am finding it difficult to get a new one with a decent package. Since I am the sole earning member I just cannot afford to be idle at home. Hence looking for options where I can earn from home till I get myself a good job.

Well I guess as per this discussion, there are ways thru which one can sit at home and earn BUT I really have my doubts. As I’ve replied to Nishant, I come across so many sites that are offering working from home opportunities, but knowing the virtual world and the scams and India specially, I’m doubtful about the veracity of such sites. Most would require me to empanel my name thru an initial signing up amount (anything between Rs. 1250 to 2500) and then supposedly the work would start coming in! but what IF the work never came??? Like you Mayka, I would really love to know of a tried and tested authentic site which offers people like you and me the opportunity to spend time with our family yet, put our skills to good use and earn well enough to support a family.

All of us seem to be just searching for genuine sites. And online you will find so many claiming that they earn thousands and lakhs just sitting at home. I just wish these was some way where we would not have to travel so much everyday.

I use to be a customer service/sales rep from home and it was a living. I hated being on the phones though and I hated having to try to sell the customer extra's if they were placing an order. It seemed to always be crunch time and you had to sell X amount of extra's in order to keep your job. With the strictly CS jobs it was a pain because people would call in angry about their service and then the companies would expect you to keep them calm and keep them with the service. I guess I am just not that sort of person. Now I do all of the free things online like MyLot, Gather, InBoxDollars, SendEarnings and MyPoints and make as much extra income as I can. I actually cashed out for $60 this week which is not too bad. I wish I could do that every week. I also babysit 1 child from home and that brings in extra income. I am thinking of becoming an AVON rep too but I still have not decided to do it for sure. The wheels are turning though. I have a few people that said they would buy from me if I was to become one. We will see. I do know of plenty of people who do earn their income from home. There are all sorts of customer service and sales jobs out there to be had as well as writing gigs. If a person were to break into those fields and be good at it then you could earn a living from home. Good luck with what ever you decide to do.

I hate any kind of sales job. And specially if they are target based. Another pain for me is being on the phone the whole day. I would not want to do that. Earning through the net is okay with me.

I have taken the laptop just to get more time to spend online because I was not able to do so with my present job. My earlier job gave me a few hours to spend on mylot everyday. Now with the laptop at home I will be able to take part in more discussions.

I have a full time job and at the same time I also work on the net during my free time. If you will really focus and be full time with your online jobs, i think you will be earning a lot more. I have earned more than $100 with my online jobs.

I do not have so many options for earning online where I can earn as much as you. Most of the sites available here are scam where we do not receive payment at all.

No it didn't happen with me yet but I am sure some people are doing it. Some people sell there own products like ebooks etc on the internet. Some people say that they earn from the blogs. For me it is nice to hear all this but I am far far from earning my living from the internet. All the best to you.

I had registered in quite a few sites which eventually closed down. That is why I am not skeptical about joining new sites. Though I am searching for more genuine sites in order to increase my online income.

As of the moment no. I looking forward to do it. I just started a website and I'm really put a lot of on it. I also just started doing this thing posting a comment or answer a question and I hope by doing this as a part time I can earn even if it's a little bucks..

If you work hard enough on mylot you will manage to earn quite a bit every month. And payout is assured. Not heard a single complaint where a mylotter has not got his or her payment on time. So go ahead and be as active as possible on this site and earn as much as possible.

I have a full time job and same as yours, I still need to make an extra income for my family. It's just a matter of patience whenever you wanted to have a part time job through the net. Of course, the first thing you need to do is to find a legit company that will pay you for a reasonable price. There are several websites that offer extra jobs. Good luck in finding one!

Most of us here on mylot need a little extra income. The most difficult task is finding legit sites. Everyone just recommends sites to get referrals under them. I dont think it is right for us to recommend sites where we have not got payment ourselves.

Besides mylot, there is no online activity for me that earns me money and you know very well that it's not enough for running a home. I do not have a full time job (unless you count taking care of my family and running errands as a 'job').
