Do you watch the History channel? my son watched it all weekend. We both love history but I seldom watch it on tv. Except when Im in the kitchen doing things, then I can see his large tv in the front room. So I get interested in some things and go search them up. online. guess I'd rather read. So, they had so many good things this weekend including about our USA history of course. One was about "No mans Land" in Oklahoma. and since I have a good friend lives there, I had to search all about it. Apparently its the "pan handle" which I never knew looks just like a handle. and it told where some interesting sayings comes from. One was "dont pull my chain!" It seems way back when, in the mines. the toilets were movable and if they went to use them at night, they would put a chain under the wheels so they wouldnt roll into the mines while they sat on them. LOL! so if someone happened to pull the chain out it would roll off into the mine with you. Do you watch this channel or like myself just look it up online?

I am more into reading history than watching. I've got a history site in my favorites list. Also have tons of books that deal with the WWII era. Winston Churchill was a prolific author and some of his works are fascinating. I've lately become interested in Russian history and have some books that address the tsars, the revolution that brought Lenin into power and the subsequent Russian upheavals. I'm ready to start the last volume of Solzhenitsyn's Gulag series when I can work it into my reading schedule.
I have watched the History Channel on occasion. It just seems better for me to read history though.
One of the movie channels broadcast "Tora,Tora,Tora" last night and I watched that. I had seen it before but it was a good reminder for the July 4th holiday. I couldn't help but compare its theme of the US being caught with its pants down to the 9-11 surprise. If we don't heed the warnings of history, we are bound to repeat the same mistakes. It appears that nations too often have become complacent and pay the ultimate price for that neglect.

oh yes, they say we should learn from history and try and stop a repeat of some things, but i guess our presidents sometimes dont pay attention to that. actually, thats why i prefer reading about it because its more informative in books, plus you dont miss statments and facts because you can read it over if you dont understand right away

Really? LOL Omgosh! LOL I can't help but laugh!! That's just too funny! I love history too. I did really well in school but not these days. I guess what you don't use, you lose over time. Anyway, I haven't watched the history channel in quite some time but maybe I should get back into it again? But I also like real life stories and nature shows too so maybe I'm just stuck there? Who knows. LOL

so sorry jdyrj, the economy is hurting everyone to give up some of our most loved things. we would not have it either if not going in halves on such things.

I do watch the History Channel. I really enjoy it. They have an occasional doc on Egypt and I like the back history on the pharoahs. I don't watch much on the wars and famous battles. They do have alot of interesting programs and I watch it quite a bit.
THis 'don't pull my chain' thing reminds me of a music festival I went to. The Fiddler's Contest over in Weiser. THird week end in June. Fiddlers and bango players from all over the world. So we are there one year and I have to use the bathroom. there is one of those mobile toilets out in the back but it is up in the back end of a trailer. I go to climb up and in and find it wobbling something terrible. If I didn't have to go so bad I would have waited. But I climbed carefully up in and did what needed to be done. All the time worrying that it was going to fall with me in it.

I think Egyptology is very interesting.
It had been there along time so I doubt they had forgotten. It was just that way.

My husband and our oldest son watch the History Channel all the time. I do watch it at times, however, I am not a big t.v. watcher. I do have the t.v. on all the time, but I am usually reading, or doing something else. I have watched the show that tells how the states got their shapes. That was very interesting and I learned a lot of facts about various states that I never knew.

We do not get any paid channels, so I only get to watch it if I am visiting someone who gets it. I would not want to watch it all the time. I agree that it is stimulus to go online and search to learn more about stuff.

I do watch the History Channel, but our History Channel is the Canadian History Channel and many of the movies or documentaries I have already seen elsewhere. I have not watched it recently, but I love War movies, and historical movies and will watch them if it is on. I did like Enemy at the Gates which was about a Soviet sniper and Nazi sniper's war of wills against each other. I have also seen a few on the depression, but as I said, much was already on other channels, and when you watch on the History, you have to see the commercials as well. A good thing is that they usually have a preview or an aftermath where an expert like a commissioned officer or historian explains what really went on, whether the movie makers took poetic license, what characters were invented, etc. so we can get an idea of what really went on.

Hi Bunny
When we had cable we watched it all the time. My boyfriend got me hooked on it then. Now we do go online and stream as much as we can. I was not really interested it in in the past but since knowing my boyfriend and how avid he is in watching it I have grown to be very interested.
He was out most of the weekend therefore, we did not watch the ones you mentioned, but I can almost guarantee it will be on all week this week. lol, as he does stream it all the time and has an icon on his computer set.

Hi bunnybon7!
Yeah, I also watched History channel. Actually, it was in the channel that i understand pretty well about the Battle in Okinawa. I don't remember when was it telecasted but it was months ago.
The only problem with History channel is that, the graphics is not only so cloudy but the pictures isn't stable. Is it because the films are old, too?

some is old footage. perhaps your programs are not coming in clear? because most of what my son watches on history channel is quite clear.

Yes, most of the time the shows don't have clear pictures and images. I have 78 channels in my cable but that alone is cloudy huh.. Good morning!
