Well me, i prefer to read on a solemn place. I can read more and understand more on what i read on. I can't really read seriously when my surrounding is so noisy. It can't place directly on my brain. Reading is really need comprehension and understanding. To be able to registered all the letters, words that you read. But, everyone of us have it's own of ways of reading, some read with music and or without. But, most important thing is you did understand on what you are reading. I'm i right guys?

Sometimes I read with music on, sometimes I don't it depends on where I am. If I'm volunteering at the library, it's usually quiet, but if I'm at home I usually have some background noise on.

Heh, I try to fit the mood of my music to what I'm reading. That is the absolute best. :) I love having music on all the time, and when I read is rarely an exception. Reading and music go hand in hand for me. :) I understand what I'm reading, and it often makes a bigger impact on me when I have that one song that fits just right playing.

I would prefer it to be a silent place for reading. i cant really read in a noisy environment as i cannot focus on the task at hand. So i second whatever you have mentioned in this discussion.

I prefer reading too that listening to music. But unlike you, I can read anywhere when Im bored. like when in supermarket lines, riding in bus, traffics. I had the itch to read esp when Im so bored and when I want to finish what I'm currently reading

I read in two cases .. when I am enjoying a storybook or novel or whateva(any piece of fictional writing) or when I have fire on my tail before the exams. In both cases I like to have calm and quiet atmosphere around me while I read as I want to(or have to) really concentrate on the book at hand.
However there is a thing I would like to add, when I was small and mom-dad used to scold when I didn't study properly I used to act as if I am reading and would listen to music on my earplugs instead. Don't tell to anyone :P.

When I read I prefer to read in silence. I don't like having a lot of noise around me while I'm reading. I like to comprehend and understand what I'm reading and I can't do that if there is a lot of noise going on around me.

Sometimes I like to have some music in the background while I am reading and sometimes I prefer silence. It depends on my mood and the things I am reading. If I am reading something that is difficult to understand (non-fiction books about a topic that I don't know much about etc) I prefer silence, because that makes it easier for me to focus on the things that I am reading. If I am reading fiction is usually easier for me to read and listen to music at the same time.

No matter how much i love music, when it comes to reading, I prefer reading in a quiet place. I have friends who watch Tv or listen to music while studying, but I for one cant do that at all. I have tried but I just end up singing with those songs. It's really distracting.

Yea right, and I prefer reading in a solemn place. I can easily comprehend when the environment is peaceful. It's so annoying to read with a music, i am not comfortable with that.Yes, all of us has different comprehension skills and whatever it is, it doesn't matter as long we understand what we have read. :)

I don't mind reading light and enjoyable topics and stories with lots of pictorials in noisy places or locations with lots of distraction. But I read the more serious and difficult subjects in a place where it's cool and comfortable, preferably with classics and classical pieces playing softly in the background.

I don't mind reading with music (as long as it's music I know/like) but unless I'm really engrossed in my book I get distracted by other noises like people talking.
Generally, I like to read somewhere quiet, but with music on in the background. I'll stick on something easy to listen to, that I know all the words to (so I won't be distracted listening to the lyrics) and just lose myself in the book. Half the time by the time I put my book down the album's finished and I haven't even noticed it stop!
Yesterday we went to the cinema, and I knew I'd probably be early (I was coming from much farther away than everyone else, and I get paranoid about being late) so I took my book, and sat in the car with it and my music. It's my goal to re-read all the Harry Potter books before the film next week and I read 2/3 of Harry potter and the chamber of secret sat in my car yesterday :) I had to keep the windows closed though or I got distracted by cars starting/people walking past etc.
