Are We Back To Living The Dream?

I heard that the world and America is doing better financially. I don't see it in my day to day life. I was wondering if you guys wouldn't mind sharing what you see. I know that I am part of a poor non-working family in the US that has medically fragile members. What is your status and where are you from? I have seen a steady decline in the financial and quality of life in the last 8 years or so. Our Income has dropped from the $45,000 a year range to less then $15,000 (if we are way lucky) in that time. And even though others have said that the "recession" is over, there are still few jobs or opportunity in our area. Our whole state is still in crisis. What about your life, your money situation and that of your area? I cope by getting very creative, stretching every dime, and skipping meals to make sure the kids don't have to. I still may lose my home. What have you done to get by? What do you still worry about?

Hello my friend TLChimes Ji, I am Indian retiree's wife, who is service pensioner. You know very well that India came out and withstood at time of recssion throught the world. Even when such situations were not imagined and thought about, we saved like aunts save for rainy days . Everyone must save something for rainy day. We have outr own home and we do not need anyone's support, though we have two sons and a daughter, readily available for any of our help. Thanks. May God bless You and have a great time.

I don't know. I don't see the prices going down. Gas is still sky high. Until there are jobs for the many out of work I doubt the recession is over. My situation changed in that the state stopped paying for my insurance. That brought my income down about $250! And they decided to take out several payments in one month which really hurt. And they never let you know ahead of time so you can be ready or prepared. I think people want to think things are better.

It tends to do that in the Summer. I agree. Those higher up want us to think things are getting better. Let them live in the lower income sector awhile.

Gas went higher which makes it harder for those just making it to get by. I think that those higher up want people to think it's getting better.

I wonder if the ones who say the economy is getting better are the ones who don't live in the real world? I don't see it getting better anywhere around me and I live in one of the areas that is weathering it better than others. One of my brothers has been out of work for two years. My daughter is hanging on by a thread, getting deeper in debt all the time. I'm doing okay, but I have more bills than I know how to handle sometimes.

I wonder the same thing.... I see no improvement around us... I think medical bills are the hardest to pay.

I don't think we'll ever enjoy the Dream as we knew it or our parents knew it. I live in south west Ohio and while we see new jobs every so often, especially since our governor is offering tax incentives for business to come here, more jobs are lost than gained. I've been unemployed for 3 years since I lost my "temp-to-become-permanent" job in December of 2008. There aren't even temporary jobs that I can do, I'm an office worker and computers are taking over everything I used to do, even phone answering. And I'm 57--I notice that wherever I apply they hire people in their 20's and 30's. I'm getting very uncomfortable financially. I have an income from a long marriage but my ex is a business owner and he isn't doing well so my income has been cut--I won't do anything legally about it because I know he's doing all he can. I've had to dip into my savings for the first time a couple of weeks ago and that scares me. Most of the people in my neighborhood are unemployed, underemployed or working part time to make ends meet. No new clothing for school this year for most of the kids and they'll be using a lot of last year's school supplies. There are still Obamaville tent cities. They didn't and still aren't getting much publicity but they exist: http://wacptv.ning.com/video/obamaville-tent-city http://www.sodahead.com/united-states/obamaville-shanty-towns-spread-across-america/question-1613137/ So even though I'm starting to break into my emergency food supplies, giving up my favorite TV channel, breaking my medication in half to make it last longer and buying cheaper dog food, etc., I feel blessed to have a roof over my head. I hope you don't lose your house! I think I might within a year but I keep reminding myself that home is in the heart and we take it with us wherever we go.

We get by but... like you... it is getting very uncomfortable. Thanks for the links I may use them on a story I've been working on... there are groups trying to feed the hungry that are being arrested for it... Our house is paid for, it's the ridiculously high taxes that may cost us the house.

Your dream is still a long way off, and on this side of the pond it's an absolute nightmare! I don't know who says these things about financial improvements, but they are very wrong. I think we have a few YEARS more to suffer this hardship.

Agreed.... and at least.... And I think we would all be better off if people understood that we are all in this together.

american recesion has brought a lot of crisis.you should move to a different state after you get a good job.how much do you make erning online.even if to try to move in a different country your situation will be much better because other countries are not that affevted by reccesion. yes i know the intial settelment cost will be above expectations but the later life will be good.

That isn't always an option... in my case I have 2 medically fragile people and moving means they have to start with new doctors. Our house is paid for.

I retired in 2005. That caused my pay go from about $1600 a month to less than $1300. I took on a part time job in 2007 and that increased my monetary situation by about an additional $700. IF I didn't have the roomie we would not be in as good a condition as we are, but between her income and the additional rent from the other roommate is the reason we can support all the feline brats we have.

tL chimes I am in Southern california living in a most tiresome retirement center only because in Sept of 2008 my son whom I his elderly momn were living together in a 2 bedroom apartment when he was laid off. The econo my had gone into the toilet and we were evicted, made homelessl. fearing for my health and safety homeless on the streets staying in damnable homeless shelters, he got adult protective serrvices to find me a place to live that too k my social security and SSI checks for monthly room and board. we assumed it would only be for a short time and he would have agood job and we cou ld again afford an apt. well surprise the economy got worse. He did g et help to get into gov. sponsored apt with another guy and both still only have part time jobs.NO to me the damned economy is not out of trouble yet til all the American people who are jobless are again working. What i worry about is this going on and on and me dying here in a place I never wanted to be in , in the first place. I still hope he will get a great full time job.

(((hugs))) It sucks what we are having to do or give up just to barely survive and yet those Higher up on the food chain are saying how wonderfully everything is coming around. Really? I just don't see or feel it. My son is on a 12 week wait list for braces on his feet, 8 months for his wheel chair (if at all)and we adults are with out care which means we also can't work... but we can't get help either. It has gotten really bad and yet that's not what the news is saying.

Living the Dream? Ha! It's more like living a nightmare on this end. I have been unemployed for three months, unemployment has been denied, so that means I have no income. Before I moved, I had drained what little savings I had. With no source of income, I was forced to move out of my apartment. Bills are piling up, and the job search has been tedious. There are jobs out there that I can do, but most of the places that I have applied to have not called, and the interviews that I have been on, won't give a response, which is rude in my book. Because I have no car and the transportation system around here sucks at best, I cannot get to the areas where they have jobs. I even tried to do a few side hustles to make some cash, but to get around this town, you need a car. There is no point in running a side hustle on the bus. So I ended up moving back in with my parents. Because I am following the rules of the system, I cannot attend school this semester, which would have helped take my mind off of this. But I am going to be honest, if I don't find work, or get an income before I start school in the fall, I may have to drop classes, and move out of the state. There are too many backwards policies that keep people in the position they're in, and drive people out of here.

america is most affected by recession than the other parts of this world. you should move to the other country.i know the initial expence will be above expectations but later life will be good.
