Free plants!

United States

Hello fellow mylot gardeners. I have stumbled on a site that says they will give away free plants. I sent a request last night and hopefully will see something in the mail in a few weeks. I ordered some Babysbreath, and when they let me order again I will pick out--well, I will let you guess the next flower. A rose, of course. I just wonder if anyone has ever received a free plant online in the USA? Have you ever sent a request for one and never heard another word from the company?

I bookmarked the website you posted in another response. I really hope they are legit, I certainly would LOVE more plants for my yard! PLEASE let us (me!) know whether or not you get plants from them; and whether they are seeds or actual plants. Thanks for the info and link! I've never ordered (or received free) plants online. Sounds like quite the deal! It appears to be legit, especially if they limit to one plant a day.. though if they sent them all together, it'd be cheaper. I wonder if there is a total limit?

I've "applied" for several free plants. I've gotten automated e-mail responses that inform me that they have received my request, but nothing about when to expect it (or IF to expect it). Have you heard anything from them yet?

That's a bummer. I'm really hoping to get some free fruit plants from them. I'm not really a flower person (except sunflowers, which I love!), so I'm mostly just focusing on the fruit plants. I'd be thrilled to get any of them that I've requested! All I get is the automated message, I'm really hoping for something more too. I'm sorry to hear about your rose bushes! I only have one small, tiny rose bush and it only produces one or two roses at a time! It's a bummer -- even worse, the deer have been eating off the tops so I haven't gotten any roses yet! They've never eaten them before, I don't know how they do it without hurting themselves! Do you have the "miniature rose" bushes like shown on the site? I've considered requesting them too, they look pretty and easy to maintain.

I don't know if there is a total limit. I forgot about the site after a few days, and have not heard a thing from them about the plants.

Nurseries sometimes use this method to get more of their catalogs in more peoples hands so that they can sell more plants. I have gotten seed packets before but never live plants.

They offer roses at this place, so maybe they do send plants? I dunno, I guess I shall find out if they ever send it.

Since it is roses I would guess that they are live plants. I have never seen roses as seeds. I imagine they will soon arrive.

True, at least some will be live plants. I do hope they send them.

I have exchanged seeds by mail with different gardeners that I "met" online as a result of participating in gardening forums and that sort of thing. I have also ordered inexpensive live plants and seeds from eBay sellers and that worked out quite well. I never sent for free plants from a company online except for the specials where you buy some plants and they put a free one in the shipment as a thank you. That has happened a few times and always that delighted me.

Getting something free or on discount when one orders is a terrific thing. I love Direct Gardening for that, they send a fair amount of freebies when one orders a certain amount. Though their plants leave much to be desired, I will order bulbs from them from now on. Maybe some house plants as well. I got one from them that did spectacular until last October when it got cold. My heat was out until a week before Christmas, and the poor thing couldn't take it and croaked. It actually had flowers on it too!

I joined a site that said they would send you seeds for your birthday.. I have to wait until February.. to find out if they will .lol A free plant sounds good. I love my gardens. We have a floral garden and a veggie garden. Free plants are always welcome. I love Roses but I only have one rose bush.. a climber.. I don't really have many spots I can put them. So far I have never received any free plants via online. if this works. sounds liek a good deal. let me know. :)

I have received seeds before but never live plants! This is so exciting. I can not wait to try this one. I really love to garden and I adore your pictures. I love the fact that Blessed Mary is in the middle surrounded by her roses! What a beautiful way to tribute her.

I hope it works. It would be great to get some plants for free. I just bought another rose bush on sale, it is called Chicago Peace. It is a pink peace rose. It will go near the Blessed Mother someplace. I am running out of room for full sun roses. I need some for part sun now. I hope she does like them. They smell so pretty and I envy her that she can smell them all day and night long.

I don't know if it is a scam or not. they may be phishing for information and will not send the plants. That would be simply tragic!

Giving away free plants sounds exciting to me. It is likely to be a small plant that would normally be economical to purchase. I haven't ever received any free plants ever before. Good luck with receiving your new plant sometime in the coming weeks. I am getting some more hardy tropical plants for my back garden.

Sounds like you have a pretty garden. I do not know what they will send, if they do. Probably seeds! lol. I am not having much luck with seeds this year. Nothing I have planted has grown. I had some plants on the front porch that weren't getting much sun and were not growing very much so I moved them to the back in full sun. Very dumb idea because they cooked within hours. Now I have no seedlings left.

I am not from the USA but in the UK my uncle has got quite a few free plants from newspapers and magasines to get these plants all he had to pay for was the postage to get it he has also got lots of free seeds again paying for the postage but it hardly costs anything to send seeds as they are a lot less. These freebies are part of a sales drive as they use his postal details to send him details of plants they are trying to sell.

Ah, I see. That makes sense they would want the information to sell.

Here is one link, you have to pay shipping and handling but it is for a great cause. Disabled people package them. http://freetreesandplants.com/ Here's the one I used: http://www.freeplant.net/ Good luck!

Look up free plants and see if they do. I know there is a place in the UK that gives them away. I tried really hard to get them to send me some. lolol! I do not know if they send plants or seeds. I hope plants because I'm terrible with seeds these days.

I have never received any free plants before but it sounds great! Keep us all updated and let us know if you actually receive them - what is the benefit to the company that is giving them away? Surely they would only do this if there was some kind of benefit to them? Good luck, my fingers are crossed that you receive your flowers!

Thank you! I will post an update if I get them. This is exciting. I ordered a free bag of coffee some time ago and just got it a few days ago. lol! Totally forgot all about it, so it was a very nice surprise to look in my mail box and find a free bag of coffee. Just enough to make a pot, but that's ok. It was FREE!!
