http://www.buddhanet.net/tsunami.htm After reading the above article, I have to question. Why does God allow those things to Happen?

I agree with the writer of the article's view that God does not 'make these things happen' or 'allow these things to happen' for any other reason except that that is the way that things happen. It is only the short-sighted, self-centred person who blames God for inconveniences and tribulations. We live on this world and so are subject to all manner of natural disasters which are just a result of the way that this world is made and the way that it works. We are also made ill by bacteria and viruses - both as much God's creation as ourselves - and our bodies naturally take action against these things and many bacteria and viruses are killed as a result. Do they blame their Creator for what, to them, are just as much 'natural disasters'? We shall never know, perhaps, but I doubt that they do! If I create a machine to tell the time (commonly called a 'clock') I expect it to work properly and not show false results. I would be stupid, in that case, to set the hands to a different time, simply because it seemed more convenient for me at the moment for it to be earlier or later than it really was. OK, that is a really simple and hardly a very accurate parallel but 'God' created the universe and all things in it (or so some believe) and made rules so that certain things behave in a certain way. Even supposing that He can change these rules so that things do not happen in the way they ought, why should we humans assume that he will do so just in order to make things more convenient and easy for us? In short, "Why does God allow these things to happen?" is a trivial question which only exhibits the enquirer's sense of self-importance and complete misunderstanding of what 'God' is.

so basically you agree with my idea that God lays the rules and allows lets everything follows them with him having to keep intervening. The way that the enlightenment followers believe?

It's certainly something like that. A 'God' who is supposed to keep us from harm and is like a great big 'Grandfather figure' who lives somewhere above the clouds is a myth made for babies.

You're entitled to your opinion. And though I agree it sounds ridiculous, I will continue to believe God exists, for now.

We are not in the position to question God on what He chooses to do. I can give you an illustration on what happened to Job. Job is a servant of God that was tested in faith and in the book of Job chapter 38- 41 it speaks about God questioning the man who questions God's sovereignty. We may not be able to understand well, but God in His majesty and sovereignty has the right to do what He pleases, we are only humans and we must subject to authority. The highest of all(God).

That seems like an excuse to me. Let me ask you this, if You found out Obama was about to Nuke Russia, and you were working in the white house, wouldn't you question him and ask why he wants to Nuke them? Now if he replies "Don't question me! I am the President!" Would you truly be happy with that answer? We as Humans are programmed to question that which does not seem fair or sensible to us. And it's my humble belief that anything that is true, can stand a little questioning and still hold up. Isn't that why we have a court system? Imagine if all it took to send people to jail was a Pope or High Priest to point and say "Arrest him! He did it" and nobody was allowed to question him. There would be way more innocent people in jail. (Yes, I know Jail already has innocent people, but that is because they lacked proper evidence) So are you truly happy with not questioning anything? I dare you to apply that to all in life. Never question anything that any of your superiors do, and see how that goes?
