I was so tired that I went to bed right after eating, like maybe 6 p.m. Made a deal with the roomie, if she'd feed the kitten early, I'd be awake to do it later. But, about 3 hours later, my right big toe was really hurting and I needed to get up and take care of another pressure. I was hoping to avoid having to deal with kitten right then, but turned out I was going to have to pretty soon, because the other roommate was in the other bathroom. But, I had grabbed the nail clippers and I sat down in the kitchen because I was also not going to go much further with my toe hurting that bad! I tried to get the file part under the big nail, but due to the fact that I'm not that limber, and my eyesight not that good. So, I started clipping some of the other nails. Now, Booboo was standing under me, I guess hoping that I'd do something or drop some food or something. I clipped the first nail and he twitched. Clipped the other side of that nail and he did it again. Each nail I snipped, he jumped until after about 5 snips, he jumped and ran off! I had to laugh... Yeah, I know, trimming my nails in the kitchen probably isn't the best idea, but its not like we were cooking... I finally got under that sore nail and clipped! It was like ***ahhhhh*** it ain't pertty, but it feels better... Then I went in and fed the kitten and took care of the other thing too! I wish you guys could've seen Boo looking for whatever it was attacking him! Have you ever had a pet who, other than being attacked by fleas/flies, acted like they were being attacked by invisible things?

I have seen my cats look out the window and "bark" at birds, or look inside the house and collect the flies they could find. They do get twitchy and often can see things I do not see.

oh, I agree, they often get twitchy, but this was obvious that my nails were hitting him until he jumped one last time and took off!

Cats are really very friendly and understanding pets and sometime they play and make people enjoy and make them laugh

well, 24 of my cats are friendly and understanding, but then there are the 6 who really want little or nothing to do with us - just make sure there's food and water down!!!

My cat does stuff like that, if I snap my fingers, or clap my hands, near him. He jumps up, swats at the air, and figures that if something's making a noise in his direction, something must be after him. LOL Cats are pretty silly that way. As for what happened with you, I wish you had it on video. LOL

well, I just am not one to record my life, too old for that I guess Boo doesn't normally react that way to sounds, I really think the nails were hitting him, since he purrs while we trim his nails (same clippers)

I tease my pets a little for that reaction..LOL..I make a funny sound with my mouth and they look everywhere for it. I have never laughed so hard in my life when I made that sound and one of the dogs thought the other one made it....she had finally figured it out and went after the dog she thought made the sound

I wonder if the cat saw the clipping flying in the air and thought for a second it was flies and or something coming out of mid air. The sounds of the clippers probably started the cat and ran off. That had to be a funny sight. Glad you got the relief after the trimming.

I don't know if he did, but he'd jump and look toward his back, so I think they were hitting him. I think he came for pets, but I was obviously too interested in what I was doing... And the clippers, well, this cat will lay in the roomie's arms and PURR while we trim his nails, so I don't think the sound bothered him

LOL.. that's so cute and funny.. I can't stop laughing reading your discussion. I can imagine what the cute Booboo is doing.. that's funny. Well our dogs jump in the air to catch flies... that's the strangest thing they do.. well aside from eating grass.. and talking to a tree?? Yes that's what they do

It was funny, and Boo is cute, in a huge cat sort of way...

Yes. LOL. That is funny. My Yorkie is not really afraid of anything other than when I get out a fresh garbage bag and shake it out to open it. He runs LOL. My other dog we used to have, hated it when we used the toaster. He hated for us to put the bread button down and he definitely ran when the bread popped up.

I saw a video of a kitten who behaved as if he was being attacked by two green apples sitting on a bed. How'd you like them apples... Punny I know. I'd set a link to the video if I had an idea where it was off the top of my head but I don't, I don't even remember the title.

At first, I thought Booboo was reacting to the noise (thinking his own nails were being clipped) but then I realized you were letting the clippings fly and (I guess) hitting poor Boo... As for the other... isn't it nice when you can hold your water long enough to get to the facility?

Boo purrs while his nails get done, but since I can barely reach the toes, I kind of had to let them fly... since I was using one hand to hold the foot and the other to trim... Yeah, but I was getting worried that I wasn't going to hold much longer!

hi elicbxn oh yes I had a black cat totally black and she would jump like she had been shot when a feather or a leaf or most anything touched her back. we rescued her as a kitten ane we figured she might have been mistreated and had someone hit her on her back hard. so she was scared of anything odd touching her. even the wind blowing her long fur could make her jump and look around.but she was a lovebug. she hated to see me trying to read a paper so she just jumped up on my lap and turned around three times on that darned paper.was not too good for the paper but I did get a charge out of her wanting to be petted every time I wanted to read lol lol

I've had a cat who hated wind, he'd duck if he stepped in front of a fan or stuck his head out the door on a windy day. But Hobo was an "odd duck" at the best of times.

Hm, clipping nails as entertainment for the cats, must try it. Ingrown toenail? Those thangs are miserable...

Just the usual night crazies that Sleepy used to have. He hasn't run around as if something or someone were after him lately, though. Guess he's getting too fat. Inactivity will make the fat problem worse. Chasing a string used to be his favorite activity, but when I tried to get him to do that tonight, he just batted it away from his nose and lay there. After a bit, he got up and walked slowly into another room.

maybe if you had named him something else (joking!) I have a few that barely move, except to move to a more comfortable place! Then I have Nef, who is 9 and still acts like a kitten!

Hehehehe.. lol. This is funny. :D I used to have a dog. If I don't have something to do and I like to play with her but then she's asleep, what I would do is I would constantly put something in her ears near her hair and she just keep on flipping her ears. I really find it funny every time she flips her ear. I just miss my dog. :)

a drawing of The Doctor - he wasn't sleeping when the picture was taken
Oh, I used to do something like that with my Siamese, I'd reach up and touch the feeler hairs in his ears until he woke up - and he could sleep HARD!

I have a cat who is afraid of the rain. I know how that sounds, but it's true. Whenever we get a hard rain, he twitches and fleas for the nearest cover (under our recliner). The windows are air-tight, and the apartment is solid, but despite this the cat thinks the rain's going to get him. He defines fear of water. I've never seen him go to this degree. I think he went through a tromatic experince before he found us.

Taj spent a week in a tree, including one bad rain storm, and for about a year after he was afraid of thunder, but he's gotten over that now. but if he were traumatized by something as a kitten, yeah, he might very well be that way his entire life...

That is so sweet that your kitten thought he was being attacked by the sound of the nail clippers. My cat is so funny - she always reacts crazily when she sees other animals on the tv. She will start meowing and looks them up and down with her ears twitching as if they are really in the room and she wants to attack them! It makes us laugh every time we turn on animal planet!

Booboo is almost 6 years old, and he purrs while his nails are done, so I don't think it was the sound... Our cats only get excited when there are real animals around, probably because they see plenty of TV...
