Yes,yes, I'm guilty of this. I'll wander around for days before I ask for directions. I'll figure it out given enough time. I do ask directions but only after a great deal of effort. Of course, now we have GPS. Isn't it great when they get lost too???
Asking for directions isn't always about travel. How many read the directions before assembling anything??? Oh, who needs directions. We will figure it all out. Do the extra left over pieces really matter???
Why don't men ask for directions?? Do women really ask for them either???? Hmmmm???

It's a pride thing. Plus I feel like most men have the *provider* complex - meaning that they feel like they need to provide for their women - their family such as them trying to fix everything on their own instead of hiring a professional to do it. Not all men, but I feel like a good portion of them. Personally, as a chick, I will ask for directions BUT if I have the time to try to figure things out on my own, I most definitely will. I like figuring out how to get from A to B on my own - it's like a learning experience.

Maybe I am a caveman. I never call a professional to fix anything. Simply because you have never fixed something doesn't mean you can't. One must be very careful with this. Not knowing what one is doing can quickly get a person over their head. THat pride really goes when one has to get the plumber out to fix it anyway. Yes, it is a learning experience. Maybe I do have a provider complex. I find when I forget, she reminds me. it's my job to provide.

What rot! I ask when I need directions but have a extremely good sense of direction that rarely steers me wrong

Of course I depend on my sense of direction first. If you know the way there is no need to stop. Often when you stop the person does not know or is not from the area. A significant proportion of the time asking directions is a waste of time

I ask for directions on going somewhere only if there are no road signs and I got no idea at all towards where I have to go.
If I need to assemble something I ALWAYS check directions and the manuals first. This is how a technician should always work and not act as if he knows everything.

I don't think this is the reason why men don't ask for directions. For me, they don't do that because of their pride.

Asking is always a good thing. You say that you want to be sure of everything. Does asking really make you sure??? I could give you all kinds of directions and answers that would get you even more lost. Further, where is your sense of adventure, of discovery??? Aren't the best stuff discovered for oneself rather than simply receiving the answers from others??? Maybe we just need to EXPLORE. So we might get lost from time to time. We might also stumble on something really exciting. After all, I did stumble on you or was it the other way around????????

Hmmm?? interesting. Do you decide which is right by the most common answer or just which one sounds best. Hmmmm??? Would you believe a good snake oil salesman???? You know, the type you have to catch, then tar and feather. Somehow I think that handsome slippery snake oil salesman will wrap you around his little finger.

I'm a man, and can only speak for myself in this respect. But I can be backward when it comes to asking for directions. Why? Well, in my case, I think it's that I don't like quitting my comfort zone to approach someone, I'm a bit shy when it comes to that. I prefer to keep to myself. However, if I'm really eager to get somewhere, I will unhesitatingly ask, and not just once, repeatedly, until I get where I need to be. And people are usually so helpful; it's not a painful process.

I believe that men don't like to ask for directions because that shows everyone that they don't know where to go. My late husband would drive in circles for hundreds of miles out of the way instead of simpling asking for dirctions.

I think it is engrained into the DNA of men to be have a 'take charge' mentality. That they could take care of women. I think that most specially if they have women in the car, they would definitely not ask for directions.
I think that the GPS has helped preserve this characteristic for men!
And like most men, the GPS get helpless too at the rare occasion that it gets lost.

Interesting?? So you think men will ask directions quicker if women aren't in the car. I wonder if that is true. GPS has solved much of this problem, however men are ready to spring into action when the gps fails. After all, we never ever really get lost. WE always get there even if it takes all day.

I'm really fond of reading instructions whenever i receive something new except for cellphones. And about asking for directions, i seldom ask but i do when i get tired of going around.
This reminded me of a friend who once went to a city in our country. Our language is totally different and yes he can speak the language there but he felt shy. So he chose to walk for 6 hours until he was able to reach his destination instead of asking for directions.

Wow. 6 hours. Men can be pretty stubborn to not ask directions. He wasn't really lost. He was just trying to get some exercise. Yes, that sounds good to me. We men must stick together. I probably would have given in and asked directions long before 6 hours.

I don't know the reason but yes its really true that women asks directions very quickly than men. My father also doesn't ask for a direction very quickly unless wandering for long time. I can remember once my father and i wandered for about 2 to 3 hours to find his friends house but after so long time he called him to reach to house.(ynpatil). I am male but i don't like to wander for so long if there are so many peoples around us to take on our ways easily. But it's good thing because not always somebody's going to be around us to help. If we can figure it out on our own then its good thing.

That's is something that I always wanted to understand. My dad never ask for directions, he prefer to drive for hours than ask to someone if they know where the place is. Good that we have my mother, she always ask the direction to someone.
I don't know if all the men are like that, but most of them are. The only guy that I know that ask for direction is my sister boyfriend.

Now, in today's society, we couldn't say the road was built 100 per cent by men. I'm sure there has to be a few women on that road crew. Besides, you would think men would have gotten smart enough by now not the build a road to those shopping centers. Then again, women will always find a way to shop.
