Well lets see the
Macbook Pro is designed and focused on people who do movie editing and other forms of Graphic design. And that they need to be able to do it on the go and pretty much they are going to be really mobil. Also has really good battery life over other laptops depending on your usage and seeing as you are thinking of getting this over some of the lower Mac laptops shows that you most need the power for something. Now Gaming on the Mac is limited mostly to Steam Games like Half-life 2, Portal 2 and other source games. Also you have blizzard and others joining in making games for the Mac.
Now Alienware is a really good brand and is aimed at Gamers so it has a good graphics card and is met to push the FPS up to a really high level and try to keep the ping as low as possible.
So really the question is what are you going to or planning on using these computers for. If you are at the professional level in Graphic Design or video editing then what will your programs run on? If they will run under both Windows or Mac OS X I would say go with the Macbook Pro. If you are a gamer and looking for a solid Gaming laptop then go with the Alienware or XPS'es from Dell.

Hi there. If you were to ask me, I prefer to buy macbook pro. It is very much useful unlike other laptops out there. Macbook is good specially the software into it. It also have a better visual technology and a long battery life. Its is also have a fashionable style.

As written by others above me, the Alienware series is designed for gamers so if you're planning on playing a lot of games, then I'd get Alienware.
I've seen the Macbook pro. It's quite different from most other computers in both design and user interface. If you're used to using Windows, it would probably take a while to fully use your Macbook to its full potential. The software problem you mentioned... most programs have a version for the Macbook now although the less popular programs are still designed for Windows OS.
Both the Macbook and Alienware are highly recommended though so whichever you choose, it would most likely be worth your money.
Hope I helped somehow.

It would really depend on what you intend to use the laptop for. If it's general work, then perhaps a Macbook might be a good choice, but if you intend to do heavy video processing or play games in general go with the Alienware.
