What do you think of Dhoni, the bowler?

With Zaheer Khan missing the action and with limited resources, Dhoni decided to bowl a bit. It was a wonderful move. Batsmen hate getting out to irregular bowlers and when it is a wicket keeper who almost never bowls, the batsman are very concerned indeed. Also, they have not had time to study the bowler. That is what happened to Kevin Peterson who almost got out to Dhoni's ninth delivery. It required the DRS to save Peterson. What a scalp it would have been had Peterson got out!!! Nevertheless, Dhoni is no great bowler, but he could be a decent part-timer, especially a surprise package say a few overs in a series maybe. Who knows, probably he may take a wicket as well. No harm in trying though. What are your views?

I do agree with you.Its a great move by Indian captain. But he has to remember that who is going to do wicket-keeping can catch the ball well.Otherwise India can loose wickets of caught behind and stamping.I think most of the time,he no needs to bowl because Team India has a very good attacking bowling side.Dhoni is a brave captain and remember fortune favors the brave.

Yes indeed. He is a brave captain and has been supremely lucky. He is yet to lose a Test Series as captain, can you believe that?

I do not understand as well. But let us see what the future holds. I personally felt it is a good ploy.

I do believe because I know the results. He leads from the front and takes good decision that makes him one of the best captain of Team India. But I do not understand why few people like Kopil deb is criticizing him because of doing bowling this test.

Dhoni is a surprise package and brings a lot to the table. In fact when he bowled once before he hit the 130kmph- 135kmph speeds and generated swing too. He is a gifted player and his biggest gift is that he is a natural leader.

Yeah, he is indeed gifted. You are absolutely right. His greatest gift though is his natural leadership, if one could exclude his extraordinary luck.

Yes, Dhoni is indeed lucky. India has not lost a single Test Series under his captaincy. Amazing indeed. He was not quite as lucky in the bowling department though.

All I can say, Dhoni as a bowler is not lucky. I am not watching the test match these days but I am following the scores on Internet, I would like to see him bowling. It will be so interesting, I am sure he will get a wicket very soon. The way these Indian bowlers are bowling, I doubt, if Dhoni will be full time keeper in future. Generating 130+ speed in India means you are a good bowler. Everyone knows how determined he is, if he decides to be a regular bowler, I would love to see him bowl, can't think how exciting it would be.

Very true. He can be a good bowler. But if he bowls regularly he shall lose the surprise element. Also if he is supposed to do everything, what are the so called specialists supposed to do? And why call our tem 'Tem India' and not 'Dhoni & Co. Pvt. Ltd'. I always thought this is a team sport. Isn't it so anymore?

Very true. Ashwin especially impressed one and all. He has a great attitude as well. Harbhajan is out of form and the selectors are only selecting him based on his reputation. I also agree that if Sachin and Zaheer were not feeling well, they should have been excluded from the playing eleven. They shouldn't have been included if the reserves were fit to play. This can cause further bodily harm which may take them more time to recover.

I didn't able to see Dhoni's bowling in the match. But I saw him on news on which Peterson almost got out. And it was a quite good ball. He can't be a regular bowler as there is no other good wicket keeper which can bat too like him. But surely he can be a part time bowler in the test.

I too think so. Possibly he can use himself as a surprise element to just disturb the batsmen a little bit. He should bowl himself once in a while only.
