Have you ever gone to a job interview

directly from work? I have a job interview today, but I also have to work beforehand. I will be able to get off work early, but will only have enough time to get to the job interview itself. I won't have enough time to shower or change. Hopefully it won't be held against me. Anyway, so what about you? Have you ever gone to a job interview right after work? If so, how did it go? PS Please be sure to keep your fingers crossed for me. Thank you!

hi sacmom! yes, i've gone to a job interview straight from work. it wasn't much of a hassle actually but i understand if you have reservations about it. anyway, seeing that this discussion is four days old, how did the job interview go? keep us posted. cheers!!!

It actually turned into 2 interviews. The second one was a "working interview" although it was more like an observing interview. LOL I'm not sure. I should find out around the 8th. Happy mylotting!

I'll be sure to do that. Not sure if it's any better though or that you'd even find it interesting. Not only does this one involve dogs, but cats and rodents as well!

Best of luck? Madam: scmom - welcome take ur seat -- Are you working nowadays? Why do you want to change the job? if it is for money will u change if some other company gives more than what we are going to offer? How much do you expect as salary? what are the changes u brought in ur new company? What is it in that company u like very much?

I was aware that you are working and you were going for an interview. I just framed the questions u would have been asked in your interview yesterday evening. that is ok. How was the interview? Has you working throughout the day affected your interview?

I assume if you'd gotten the job you would have posted by now. Back in February I had a job interview across town directly after a dental appointment. I didn't think it would be a big deal, but then I ended up needing my whole face numbed up so they could take impressions (my teeth were so bad I would not have been able to handle the pain without the numbing) so I ended up having to skip the interview because my face was numb and I wasn't speaking right. Probably didn't want a job all the way across town anyway.

Hiya kats. Actually, I'm still waiting to hear back from them. Apparently they had more applicants than expected. I remember that discussion. I probably would have done the same thing had I been in that situation. Oh, and I wouldn't want a job that far either, but at this point I'll take just about anything I can get. Happy mylotting!

I've done that before, many years ago. I had a part-time job in the mornings but needed a full-time salary so I went for an interview right after work. I also did not have time to freshen up or change clothes beforehand. I was offered the job but I wouldn't presume this to be the norm. The owner of the company I had the interview with wasn't paying much at all, didn't offer any kind of health benefits and it looked like the office was very dirty and unorganized. I would not have been making twice my part-time pay even though I'd be working full-time and the work itself was harder than what I was doing at my part-time job. I turned the job offer down. I'd suggest you go to the ladies room before you leave work and freshen up as best you can before you leave for the interview. I'm sure you'll do just fine. Let them know that you just came from work. I don't see them judging your appearance unless you're already doing something like coalmining or fish gutting but, as long as your appearance and/or aroma are from your current job, they couldn't use that against you unless they are extremely petty and I doubt you'd want to work for such petty people anyway. I hope your interview goes well, it's the job you want and that you get it. Just be yourself and let them know what you can do for them. (Most employers like that.) Good luck!

Thank you mentalward! Both my current job and the job I was interviewed for are only part-time, although the job I was interviewed for yesterday might eventually go full-time (something I'm really looking for as I need the money that comes with a full-time job). Unfortunately there isn't a ladies room at work...but there is a bathroom! LOL However, it's located in my boss's house (I work in another building on her property), so I'd rather avoid going in there. I never was much in using other people's bathrooms anyway. Well, I don't coal mine or do fish gutting, but my job gets pretty darn dirty just the same, so I don't always smell the greatest after work. And even though I didn't get the chance to freshen up, I did tell the interviewer that I just came from work. Whether or not it's the norm, I don't know, but she must have liked it because I have a second interview tomorrow! Hopefully I'll get the job. Otherwise it's back to the drawing board! Happy mylotting!

Yep, I didn't get the chance to read this until hours after I had my second interview. How'd you know? I still don't know anything yet...as far as the job goes. Apparently they have a lot of applicants. By what the interviewer told me there may even be a 3rd interview...if they want me back, that is. But I won't know for certain until around the 8th. So it looks like you'll have to continue keeping things crossed for me...just don't keep your eyes crossed. Otherwise they may just stay that way! LOL Thanks again!

I don't know if you've already had the other interview at this point or not but I'm sure you won't read this until after your second interview. I just want to let you know that I'll keep my fingers, toes and eyes crossed for you! I've even chanted over your getting this job. (I practice a little Buddhism and chanting is like praying.) I know how long you've been looking so I know how important this is for you and, with everything crossed and chanting, I'm also sending all the positive energy I can your way. Good luck!

No, I never had to try to get off work early before to go straight to a job interview. I think it would be tough for me because then I would have to lie to my boss if he would get suspicious of why I wanted to get off work early. It sounds nice for you that you are able to get to the job interview. I wish you the best on the job interview.

I have done it once. In my regular job a teammate told me that she was helping another client of her and need a new programmer to do freelance work. I called them and arranged an interview. I went to it right after my 8 hours workday and talked to them about my new job. Funny is that I done that extra job from my home as freelance while keeping my regular job, and when I have to meet them to deliver the finished job, the same again, right after my regular 8 hours work gone to the another office to talk with them. Not an interview those times but anyway interesting. In those days, I too hasn't time to change clothes or take shower in the middle (my home was far away so I can't go), but anyway I don't care as long as I'm still in good shape after all the day. Also I don't think your future bosses will take that seriously to deny the vacant only for that, considering they should know you're coming right after another job. Best of luck, fingers crossed

Hope You have Good luck with the interview, firstly! As for Me,an interview right after work has never yet happened..my shifts at the moment can be quite flexible during the day, doing most of our work in the evenings..but I'd try to arrange a day off for an interview to allow for travel,a wash, change of clothes,etc..but then, having not had much success with this approach so far, maybe going in to an interview with the reasons you want a new job freshly in your mind could be the edge you need!

I did this one time, I had applied for a promotional transfer from one institution to another and was on day off so I was working for a friend building a house. The Super at the institution called and said they wanted to talk to me before they left for the day. This gave me 10 minutes to get there and it was a five minute drive from where I was. I went into the house and rinsed off a bit and combed my hair and went to the interview. I was hired! It was an hour less drive so it felt like a pay raise in the money saved for gas.

I wish the job I was interviewed for was closer to home. At least it's not too far though. Oh, and the pay isn't any better than what I'm getting now, but if it goes full-time, I'll be happy...if I get it, that is! Happy mylotting!

Nope, i will never do that because working attire is different from interview attire.. haha =D Plus it depends on the kind of work we are doing regardless of present or the one we'r applying for If ever i have an interview, i will be sure to take leave, if not at least half day's leave, so i have time to prepare myself ^^ Hope your interview goes through smooth and landed yourself a new job now ^^

Thank you kun! Well, in my case both are similar in work, so I don't think it hurt my chances. In fact, I think it actually helped! I ended up having a second interview with them a couple of days later. Now I just have to wait a few more days before I find anything else out. Happy mylotting!

I have taken time off work in the middle of the day to attend job interviews. I think that is perfectly normal right now. The only way you could avoid that would be to take the entire day off work and most people couldn't afford to do that. In most cases, the fact that I was wearing my uniform (I worked for the state courier service)showed that I was already employed and I think if anything that helped. Good luck on the job! Have a great weekend!!!

Hey Humbug. I'm not sure. By what I was told there are a lot of other applicants and I should find out around the 8th of next month (I hope this isn't a sign that I didn't get the job). However, the interviewer did encourage me to check in a few days before that. So I guess I'll give that a shot and see how it goes. Happy mylotting!

My friends did and most of the time they get the job. Maybe because from there the employer will think that you are a hardworking worker.(^^) Wish you good luck in your interview and hope you will get the job soon!(^^)

I’ve got everything crossed for you sacmom! I’ve gone to job interviews straight from work on many occasions and it is a little more stressful than going from home but I am sure you will do well. The fact that you won’t be able to change will only be known to you I’m sure. I used to take deep breaths and tried to relax as much as possible on the way to the interview. Good luck!

I did and since our meeting ended a wee bit late than my estimate, I arrived at my job interview late :( But everything went well during the job interview. Not that I'm decided to leave my job. I'm already working for 5 years in my present employer and it's my first job. Actually, my first interview and my first job. I got accepted on my first interview. Anyway... I wanted to try out what it's like to be interviewed since it was 5yrs ago since I last attended an interview :D I mad my nails done a day before the interview. Since I arrived late, I really apologized to my interviewer, which he gladly accepted :D Good luck on your interview :D
