Hi ANTIQUELADY
Well we say in the UK that when people talk about the weather it means they have have nothing else to talk about hahaha I know what you mean though, it can be very frustrating when people do that all the time. Sometimes I get fed up with my friends conversations because they are always so negative and you know me ANTIQUELADY, I am usually quite upbeat

No I don't usually unless there is a hurricane coming in our direction. However, its my mom, everyday that I call her she will ask how is the weather by you. Then precedes to tell me all about the weather by her. I guess that is what is mostly on her mind living in Florida. I find it so funny. She actually keeps track of the weather in New York, where her other daughter lives, New Mexico, where my daughters live and Puerto Rico, where I live. Its just to funny!

I have patience only sometimes. Sometimes just so not to make the conversation all about the weather. I just say "oh things are just fine here" and then change the subject.

hi antiquelady two things a lot of older people talk about the weather and their darned operations. that gets to b e really boring. I am old bt I refuse to talk about any of my surgeries or about how hot it is which it is or how cold it is. there has to be other topics we all can talk about . Even the economy would b e better than operations, bowel movements and the darned weather. lol

I was waiting for the bowel movements to creep their way in. Even as a kid, if I was having a cranky day, my mom would ask, "Did you have a BM today?" but you know it got worse as she got older. I knew more about her digestion than I ever cared to.

Hi Jo,
Long time no see you. I don´t like to talk about the weather or about any subject that you use just to say something. There are also things that are best left unsaid. I have a lymphoma now and I´m on chemo. But I´m NOT a "you, poor thing!"· I´m still a person and the only thing I want to talk about my lack of hair is about what beautiful knitted caps go with what clothes. Besides that, while I knitt, I can talk about politics, gardening, cooking marvels, books and TV shows, you name it. Not the weather either: we all know it´s Winter here and it´s cold. The only way where the weather subject could have it´s place is when talking about covering my Winter lettuce, leeks, garlic and kale.

That seems to be a topic that many can't stay away from. I know at work everyone thinks it needs to be rehashed and rehashed! I do get sick of it at time...you can't do a blasted thing about it! It's been way too hot here.....one day heat index of over a hundred the next in the 60's...fall is nipping at our noses! LOL

Hi Anti. Not really I might make a comment every now and then. Something to the effect of it sure is hot out here today. You are so right there is nothing we can do about the weather and complaining isn't going to help. We as humans are never satisfied with it. It is never good enough most of the time it is either too hot or too cold. I just think God for letting me be here to see it no matter what season it is.

In the U.K. this is all they talk about as it changes so frequently We do not talk about it too much out here unless there is a storm or hurricane coming. It is usually just hot. Not quite as hot when it is raining but still hot.

Some of our friends, who want to keep in touch with us, talk about weather if they do not have any other topic to discuss
Or if there is any genuine issue with weather
Or the weather is really pleasant.
I appreciate them, and it makes me happy that they want to be in touch with me (even if there is no topic to talk about).

When people talk about the weather is usually a sign that they don't know what else to say. I guess it's easy because there will always be weather and it isn't something that would be offensive and you don't have to be "in the know".
The only time I talk about weather is if I'm making plans with someone. Then I might say it's supposed to rain, or it's too hot, or something along those lines.

What should I say about this? Puzzle! I come from China. I learned that Americas would like to talk about weather when they want to start a conversation from textbook. In China, we seldom talk about the weather. If we do, we talk it seriously. I feel really helpless on your case. It is hard to have a good friend. And it is also hard to bear a good friend's bad habits, just like your case.

I usually just tell others in the home or family and friends what the weather is going to be that day because I watch the news to see what it will be and they don't. They usually want to know what to expect that day. I am able to convey this information to them.
Some times with my in-laws we talk about the weather and with a couple of friends from here. Or other's in different countries. They tell me there weather and I tell them mine when we happen to get on the subject.

I guess your summer must be hotter than our all year round summer. But you are lucky as you are only having it for 3 months and soon will be back to the freezer again. While we in this tropical country do not even get to experience the cold winter but have to suffer the hot weather throughout the year. I don't know why some people are fond of talking endlessly about the weather. Maybe they just want to pour out their discomfort to others about the weather.

sometimes it really annoys me talking about the weather. you can hear about the news, what the philippines is having lately, with regards to the weather. but some times, it is but normal for us here to talk about the weather, the weather bureau, so we can be prepared when bad weather comes, though some times, the weather forecast failed which is sad.

Hi ANTIQUELADY ...I used to be a hairdresser a loooong time ago[ in my early twenties] the conversation then was not about the weather...it was about lovers and husbands! my goodness that was tiresome it really was I was young and was suppose to give advise...or be sympathetic to older people than I was! do I talk about the weather? only if I have nothing else to talk about.

I know what you mean! I had this young woman in her early twenties[ like me] come to my salon to do her hair either friday or saturday...some times she had a black eye or a broken lip and I used to ask her why do you do this type of job? and she said I have not education and besides she had to bring home the money to her keeper? now I used to ask my self who is keeping whom? at the end of the day I just learnt to detach my self from such discussions[ not because I did not care]but I could not do any thing about it! like you say hairdressers hear it all!

Hi jo! Yes...I do sometimes talk about the weather. Especially when it is odd. I don't think I can remember it ever being quite as hot in my area for this length of time before but the news says we are always so close to breaking "records." Records? Goodness gracious..you would think it used to be a desert here..lol.
Your right though...winter is sneaking around the corner.
