Ok, so here goes. I know many of you are praying for me and its really working. The biggest thing Im having a problem with right now is stopping smoking. All my life Ive had this crutch/addiction, well since I was 14yrs that is. thats 50yrs My daughter and son are both keeping on to me about it. the doctor said he cant do the surgery without my oxygen is up. Hes thinking I wont make it through the surgery if I dont be smoke free. I have tried nearly everything on the market and hypnosis, etc. I really know I have to quit. I want to, but its unbelievabley hard. Especially now when everything is so scarey. I would think that people whos tried dieting and everything to stop eating so much from depression, etc. would understand and sympathise. I must admit, when I go most of the day without any, I feel so much better and can really breath better. Only thing is, its like that dieting thing. I love/yet hate them so much. and every time the kids arent watching me I just slip off for a few puffs. So, im asking, when you pray for me, ask also that I stop wanting/needing the cigs. OK?

You two can be accountability partners, talking to each other instead of smoking, and sharing how you are doing with the quitting. I want you both to be around a long long time.

I will pray that you can quit smoking. My husband smokes and I don't.He has tried everything and still hasn't quit so I know how hard it is to quit. He's heart stopped last year in February and had heart stent surgery because of it. They told him after the surgery that he needed to quit smoking or he wasn't going to live. He quit for a long time by sucking on hard candy when he craved to smoke. A long time later he went back to smoking .I thought for sure the scare for his life he was going to quit for good since he was doing so good in not smoking. He has tried everything after he went back into smoking and he hasn't been able to.

I know it is awful on how hard it is to quit. It is sad too! Everytime he would try to quit afterwards I wouldn't ask him how he was doing because that would just stress him out more.It would make him feel like people weren't thinking he was doing good enough and make him want to start back.People sometimes can make it harder by pressuring people that are trying to improve something in their life. Good luck and I will continue to pray for you to be able to quit and to stay off smoking.

Maggiepie quit smoking 35ish years ago.
She learned from reading that the craving only lasts a few minutes, so if you do something that means you can't smoke until the craving passes, you will soon feel the craving lessen.
Every time you take a puff, you are just postponing quitting.
So, Maggie got real clean that year, taking a shower every time she wanted a puff. and she has never smoked another one since.

My ex-husband smoked 3 packs a day since the age of 14.
one day, the doctor said he would have to stop smoking OR die in 3 months.
I did not believe he could because he had stopped drinking and i was skeptical.
but, he stopped smoking and he started trekking.
Today( 7 years later) he is very well

I know it isn't easy. You have probably been addicted for many years to this nasty nicotine. Have you ever seen nicotine in its regualar form? Thick brown gunk looks sort of like automobile oil. And that stuff is in your lungs. Ever see the difference between a clean non-smoker's lung and a smoker's lung. Ugh! Turning black. Is that what you want inside of you. I watched my grandfather die of emphazema. Horrible disease! He couldn't even walk across his livingroom without stopping several times to rest. It was heartbreaking to watch. What can a person love about something like this?

Oh, I do understand the addiction. I have a love affair with food. But I am not going to die from emphazema from eating chocolate. My heart is strong as an ox. I have watched what the addiction does to people. My grandfather smoked for about 5o years. I am glad to hear you use those filters. I have seen them. I wish my daughter would use them.

yes it is terrible and i do know how scarey the feeling is not to be able to breathe. problem is, addiction, in the worst way. what is your favorite thing in the world to partake of? think of having to give that up forever. maybe that will help you understand how terrible this nasty thing is. yes ive seen nicotine for about 20 yrs now, inside of these filters i use to take most of it out. i started using them to quit and they are clear so you can see the nicotine...yuck..in them. but now that has just served to make me have to have those to smoke with also. still use them.

hi dear bunnybon I am not sure whether what I did would be suitable for you but here goes. I smoked from the time I was 21 to 26 and had tried giving up once and not been successful and have to admit it was only 10 cigs a day for me no more.
So I tried something different the next time I wanted to quit, I smoked my normal 10 for a day for week one, so no difference, then only 9 a day as one less wont hurt you and this way cut back till I was smoke free. Took 10 weeks for me but was worth it. Plus I made sure that when I smoked I really concentrated on it and didnt let half of the cig burn idle doing other things.

yes i think that would work as already iam down to hardly any cigs a day. but others seem to think one or 2 a day is not helping. they just dont realise how hard it is. my son quit but he did it by using dip. that you put in your lip. yuck. ive tried that and it does stave off some of the nicotine withdrawals but its pretty yucky.

dear bunnybon, sorry again for the late answer I am back home for the weekend again and try to play catch up on all the online stuff. I hope I do better than last weekend when I was still really tired from the work week.
Only two cigs a day is great please try your best to keep that up. thats really a success dont let people tell you otherwise please. hugs to you

this way your body will get used to less nicotine without going through these withdrawal symptoms, I forgot to add.

I have seen and heard from many people how hard it is to quit Smoking. Especially if you do not have the Will power to want to do so. There are a lot of stressors that come with it. Many end up gaining weight etc. but you definately will be healthier if you can do this. Have you confronted your Doctor about help with quitting smoking like trying the Patch or something? I know many who have had to do it this way.
I will be Praying for you to be able to do this, as well as all the other problems you are having. God is in control and Great things are going to happen.

I will pray for you. My sisters-in-laws also were smokers and it took years for them to stop smoking. They would stop for a few months and then get back on it again, and each time the length of time they stopped increased. I heard that smoking is one of the worse addictions and aside from cutting out gradually I do not know much about it. With me it is food and the only way is for me to go for a walk or get away from the situation. Not easy when there are other things to do in the house.
I do not know about nicotine patches. Or there may be a place where you live where they may give help, that is without making you feel worse then you do right now.

You're welcome. Sometimes we need more then our determination to get rid of a bad habit. Sometimes we need the help of God.

Go to the swagbucks search and look up Jamie Aebersold quit smoking. He has a free ebook that is really, really helpful. It helped a couple of my friends quit and they were really heavy smokers. I'd put the link here but someone might think I'm trying to sell something, who knows?
I'll pray for you, of course, but here are some suggestions--I've cut down to about 8 per day by changing my triggers. Like, you might habitually have a cig with your coffee while you sit at the kitchen table. Don't have your coffee there, have it someplace else with no cig. Don't smoke inside at all, make yourself go outside. Believe me, when it's 115 outside it doesn't make it very pleasant! This past winter I skipped a lot of cig breaks because 2 feet of snow just didn't make it very enjoyable. Then you can always try the trick of waiting just 5 more minutes. Or set a timer and you can't smoke till it dings, then only one. You'll find yourself cutting down drastically!

My husband smoked from age 12 to age 58. We went on a month long vacation, to Italy. He put on the patch for the month. That was four years ago.
Why it worked, I am sure, is that he was away from his normal routine and normal triggers.
He tried four times before that to quit.

Hello Bon!
I will pray for the both of us to quit the habit, sadly it is not as easy as simply saying I will give it up. We know it is not good for us but how to stop when we are so use to the habit. We will have to come up with a plan for the both of us okay, so that both of us can be smoke free.

I can understand what you're going through at the moment, because I was also a smoker for 17 years, luckily I managed to quit last year.It takes a lot of determination to succeed, and I think everyone can do it,although for some people it's a very difficult experience.I wish you good luck,I'm confident that you will finally manage to say 'no' to this terrible vice.

There are some people smoking to release their pressure yet, being addicted to it brought bad effect to our health. Think about our family or the love ones...So bunny, keep on fighting on that! Blessing....
