I'm just curious why married couple, wear their ring on the third finger.
What if they wear it on their thumb or on the pointing finger? Is there any rules or reason why they put it there?
Please give me your answer. Thank you.

According to tradition in some countries (derived from Roman belief), the wedding ring is worn on the left ring finger because the vein in the left ring finger, referred to as the vena amoris, was believed to be directly connected to the heart, a symbol of love (according to Wikipedia). Interesting I never knew that either.

Cool ! Wanna hear what I was told about how wedding rings came to be in the first place?
It was told to me, that back in the caveman days, when a male wanted a female mate, he would go get her. Most often, there was a struggle that ended with him tying her up and dragging her back to his place.
He would keep her there, tied up, until she became more compliant. After a while, she was released, but still kept on a leash, tied to him at length. After a while of this, the leash was removed, and a simple string tied around her finger to remind her.
Now, I don't know how true that is. I can't even remember where I heard it. But I thought it sounded pretty reasonable, as a 'in the beginning' story, huh? :D

I never heard this story before but I must agree with you that it makes sense.
From what I read, I must agree with Linda here that there's a vein that connects it to the heart, that's why they put the wedding ring there.

I also don't know why. All I know is that that finger is really meant for the ring that's why it's called the "ring finger". I guess maybe it's comfortable to wear a ring on that finger that's why they called it that, I'm not sure.

In my country we wear our ring on the left hand when we are engaged and on the right hand when we are married. I am married and I wear my ring on my ring finger on my right hand. I once heard about "the language of the rings", but I am not sure if it is international or only true in my only true in my own country. If a woman wears her ring on her ring finger it means "I am married" If she wears her ring on the middle finger, it means "I prefer love" I am not sure know to interpret that, but maybe it is means that the person prefers love without marriage (?) If she wears her ring on her index finger it means "I am a lesbian".

I don't know the answer to your question, but I hear your left ring finger is thr most ideal to put your wedding ring.Based on my search, the left ring finger is the only finger in our hands connected to the heart and that is why the left ring finger is ideal to put your wedding ring

You know, while I have been told the history of where wedding rings developed, I'm afraid I really don't know why the third finger is the designated ring finger. Good question! I'll be interested in hearing the answer to this one!
