A few years ago, noone knew in my country what suchi was. Now it´s a favorite food for many people and they not only sell it in restaurants, but also in sealed packages near the Metro so people can buy one for lunch at work. I love sushi and read a lot about it online when I learned to do it. One of the spices I love is wasabi. I simply find awesome that hot stuff in my nose (so different from chiles or other hot dishes. Do you like sushi? Do you eat it alone or you add the wasabi paste and the pickld ginger? What are your preferences? Share!

hello, I think there's a little bit of confusion here so allow me to clear it up if I may. Actually sushi is a Japanese dish that makes use of mainly vinegared rice, although Japanese long grain rice is preferred, you can also use ordinary rice or mixed with sticky rice, it's wrapped in a seaweed called nori and rolled in bamboo mats, it has many variations and combinations when it comes to toppings like cucumber, mango, crab meat, squid, eel etc... it may or it may not use raw fish such as tuna, now when you eat raw fish dipped in wasabe and dark Japanese soy sauce such as kikoman, it is called or becomes sashimi. My wife makes our own sushi since we love to save, our favorite dip is dark Japanese soy sauce (kikoman)mixed with wasabe , available in tubes or if you want to save, buy the powder and make the paste using drops of cold water and mixing with a chop stick till it thickens.

Yu are absolutly right. And many people that won´t get near sushi because of the raw fish (they don´t know what they are losing) don´t know that fish is only one of the possible ingredients. In my country we don´t use mango much because it´s expensive, but we use a lot of avocado. I use the same dip you do, but I put a lot of wasabi wuth the soy sauce as I love it.

Hi Marguicha! Being that I can't eat any type of seafood sushi would be a no, no for me. I don't like most anything raw so never tried it before, knowing I was deathly allergic to seafood. But I know my boyfriend loves it alone, he can gobble up several of them and enjoy them as is. lol

I make some of the sushi rolls with no seafood. I use the sushi rice plus avocado. Can you eat the algae used in sushi? That would be good for colour. As for wasabi, it is a cousin of horseradisch.

Sadly anything related to seafood of any kind can take me into anaphylactic shock my friend. I had one experience and luckily I was in the hospital at the time. I am forbidden to experiment with anything remotely in the sea food family. Sad as the aroma of sea food is wonderful. Horseradish is something I could never eat, I tried a little for the first time a few months ago and it cleared my sinuses. lol that is how strong I find it.

Have you ever considered trying the sushi that is made without fish? They have sushi that is made up of vegetables and fruits that do not have fish in them. These are what I made my daughter try before I would tell her what it was, because she was adamant that she was not going to try sushi as she was not going to eat raw fish. She really liked them until I told her what they were ... then she was not happy with me for a little bit but decided that she liked them anyway.

well, don't do peppers either - allergic, I think I'll just stick to food I know what's in, and leave those mystery rolls for the more daring, and less allergic

Although I love the sushi made with raw fish (and the hashimi also), I also love different colours in a dish so some of the rolls are made with avocadoes or cucumbers and red pepper thinly cut. No need to eat fish if you don´t like it.

I do like sushi. I do not eat it with wasabi, though. I tried it once not knowing what it was, and I took too much and that pretty much killed my taste for it with sushi. I do like wasabi on peas, and we can buy them in the store, even though they are rather expensive. I like both the vegetable sushi and the stuff that has the raw fish in it. I do not eat the latter very much, though, as I get concerned with the stories I hear about the contaminated raw fish. I will eat the vegetable sushi whenever I get the chance, however.

I have hard about contamination of almost everything now. Maybe that´s part of the reason why I started my home veggie garden. But it does seem that pesticides and other foes are not taken away by wasing, peeling or cooking. We have a wonderful fish in my country that got contaminated with lead and you cannot eat it too often. In fact, one should not eat it at all. some parasites from fish are killed with cooking though and in raw fish eating cultures (such as Japan, Perú and my own country, Chile) the population has more parasites because they eat more raw fish.

Pesticides are bad for us and the environment. I like it that many local farmers, especially where my parents live, do not use pesticides on their crops, even though it means that they will automatically lose some of their crops to insects and other critters. Instead, they use "natural" fertilizer, which brings up the concern regarding E-coli, but I would rather worry about that than constant exposure to pesticides, especially when proper washing does remove the E-coli bacteria. We have some fish here that we are not supposed to eat in large quantities due to lead and PCBs as well. It is sad what we humans have done to this planet. I have heard, though, that just as drinking milk straight from the cow (non-pasteurized milk) starting in childhood will raise your immunity and keep you from getting sick so will eating raw fish from childhood. I believe that parasites are probably different, but I think there are other bacteria that we can get from raw fish that most people that were raised eating it will not get.

The first time I tasted sushi, I didn't like it at all I thought there nothing extraordinary in it, what's with rice rolled over some shrimp or tuna and dipping in in soy soy anyway . but I did in my next try and the succeeding ones. Fortunately sushi is one of the dishes served when we had our Christmas party last year and I ate as many as I can till I can't take it no more .

Try it with a bit of wasabi, or with some pickled ginger. AND the soy sauce, of course. It´s awesome and there are so many fishes (salmon, tuna, other) ot even veggies (I love an avocado sushi)

There were two varieties served that time and yes it came with wasabi. So there's an avocado sushi too...hmm...I wonder how it tastes. Is it good with wasabi too?

I like sushi too, but I find that eating sushi isn't filling. I don't like wasabi. In fact, I can't stand it. I like pickled ginger though.:)

I suppose it depends on how much you eat. The raw fish is not filling as fish is never very filling. But rolls and tempura can fill you. Rolls are mainly made of rice and tempura is fried.

I can REALLY eat a lot and so even the rolls made of rice wouldn't be able to satisfy my appetite.:P

I love sushi, but I do not eat it unless I caught the fish and make it myself. I usually just wrap it in seaweed with a little lemon and ginger if I make it at home. If I am out fishing, I rinse the cheek meat in fresh salt water and dip it in lemon...yum...

Sometimes I use rice when others are going to be eating it too, but only because they expect it. I usually use leafy vegetables.

hi marguicha! do i love to eat sushi? do i ever?!!! one of my favorite foods in the world. i could live with eating sushi every single day of my life! not an exaggeration! i love it so much that i've learned how to prepare it. hahahahahaha! i always take my sushi with little lemon or lime, some soy sauce, and lots and lots of wasabi! i even have my own wasabi tube here in my office so every time i order sushi, i have my own stock just in case the restaurant where i buy my sushi gives me only a small portion of wasabi. haven't tried sushi with pickled ginger but i will surely love that. i eat ginger raw and it is a favorite as well so i'm sure i'll like the sushi-ginger combination! sushi!sushi!sushi!

When my friends invite me to a japanese restaurant, I always order an extra portion of wasabi for myself. I laugh when my friends warn me that is hot. Yup, I say, that´s what I like about it. That nose hot as if I was a dragon

Oh my...no wasabi for me..lol...that stuff is warm for sure. Now my b/f loves hot stuff so the wasabi is right up his alley..lol. I was introduced to sushi when I went to Japan. It was a lot different than the sushi I had had before. It was the real stuff and I really like it. I recently found a thai resturant here that serves authentic sushi and we do love to go there sometimes. I don't eat anything on mine.

I´d love to eat the dishes in the country of origin. But that, of course, is imposible for many of us. Yet when I go someplace I always go at least once to a good ethnic restaurant and eat the dishes they make.

For a long time I was a person that would not eat sushi, but a little bit over a year ago my sister got me to try California rolls for the first time and I was immediately in love. Since then, I try to go out somewhere to eat at least once a month to somewhere that has sushi. In addition to that, they also sell it at Kroger and I will buy that at least once a month as well. I just can't get enough of it.

It happened like that to my youngest daughter. She would not even try it. Then, when she got over her prejudices, she loved it. She has a good and inexpensive japanese restaurant near her home so it´s a favorite place for her to dine out. She has taken me to lunch there several times. Now all that was forbidden by the doctor while I´m on chemo

Japanese food is vastly popular here so sushi is easily available. I love it with wasabi too but actually it is not supposed to be eaten with all types of sushi, just the ones with raw food as it will help kill germs. We have developed a habit of taking wasabi with everything, sometimes even adding them into noodle soups to add a bit of flavour. I like the pickled ginger too. I think generally Japanese food are healthy because they do not overcook the food. Dishes retain their original flavour very well and that makes it so delicious.

I lov sushi and eat more than my share of wasabi when I have it. But I doubt that it will help kill any germs. Febore posting this, I checkedd on wasabi and it´s just a plant with a strng flavour such as horseradsh (a close cousin). In my country, just like in Perú and in Japan, we eat a lot of raw fish. Our population has more parasites of some kinds that the populations of countries that don´t eat raw fish.

I love sushi, is one of my favorite foods! My favorite one is tako sashimi, followed by ebi nigiri. For me, I would eat sushi everyday, but is very expensive and it's not easy to make. It's good because the taste is wonderful and it's healthy. And, for me, I like a lot of wasabi!

I bought the bamboo thingies and the nori algae and they are not hard to do if you have a good knife. As for raw fish, there´s nothing to it except for buying wasabi, pickled ginger and soy sauce

I love sushi! Here in NYC there are many sushi restaurants. I can't eat sushi without wasabi and soy sauce. It's the best combination for raw fish! I've had a stomach flu from eating too much sushi so I only eat it occasionally these days. Ah *_*

i also love sushi but i make a simpler one. i east sushi with my family during dinner and sometimes i also eat it as my midnight snack and bring some packed sushis when going to school when i was studying. i don't like wasabi since i'm not a fan of chilis.

Wasabi is very different from chiles. I love them both but chiles are hot in your mouth and tummy and wasabi finds it´s way to your nose. I love sushi but I´m not used to midnight snacks.
