you know that program on TLC, Extreme couponing? people have mentioned it here and i had to see it for myself. I decided to try it in a smaller scale just to start out. but cant seem to synchronize everything to get even one thing free. i mean, i went online and joined all kinds of coupon places, and cut out a bunch from the paper, but obviously, what i actually use, or want is not for free or even close right now i dont know. guess like anything else you've got to have a certain amount of time and money just to get started. and worst of all, they make you sign up and get profiles, etc. on all these dang coupon groups. so i wasted a bunch of time on that. went to walgreens to get some things i needed but the walgreens brands were cheaper then the regular brands even with coupons. do you do it in a grand scale? any pointers?

That's exactly why I don't bother couponing. We used to get the Sunday paper for free, a friend of hubby's was the delivery guy so he gave us papers for free. So when we got it I would clip the few coupons I might use. But a lot of them seem pointless.. 30 cents off 5 cans of soup. My family doesn't eat a lot of soup. I do use it for cooking sometimes, but like you said, generic brands are cheaper anyways, so why bother? I would not purposely spend $2 on a Sunday paper just for a couple of coupons that probably wouldn't even save me $2 a week at the grocery store. If I get a free coupon for something I'd buy anyway, then sure, I'll use it. But I'm not going to go out of my way or spend money to get coupons for things I normally wouldn't buy anyway. I haven't watched this show before.. so I'm curious. How much of the stuff that they buy is actually useful? In some of the commercials I've seen they say they're saving hundreds on their grocery bill.. but the images of their carts look like they're filled with chocolate milk and candy bars. How much actual groceries do they get for that price? There are never coupons on milk, bread, or meats.. so how much useful food are they getting? Or are they just buying random things with their coupons and doing their real grocery shopping off camera??

My local Kroger affiliate has some store specific coupons that I love and you might get milk or meat or bread included. They send you coupons for what you buy. That is why it is important to use your loyalty card. In fact I know I have gotten some coupons online for Sara Lee bread, but it is when they are introducing something new. I really like those coupons they mail me, because I can use them with specials they run in their store and they still will double up to $1. For instance, right now, ten packages of frozen veggies for $10, then you get a rebate for buying ten of the special items, then if you spend $15 there was a coupon for $3 off your total bill. One of my favorite things to do.

thats true and thats my problem. they seldom have something on sale i need plus a coupon to go with it but, my store also sends us free coupons. extra. like right now we have a coupon for free chips. the thing is, while watching yesterday, i realised a lot of these people stock pile things for later and have big rooms full of extra food. and i know it would be good to have stock piles but some are rediculous. its when i told my daughter, no wonder the world thinks america is greedy. some of these people you can tell they have money from the house they live in yet they need all this extra food? i'll admit a few of them send care packages to our troops and give a lot to the local food bank, which i think those are great charitable people

Hi Bon! Like you I have not been successful with it. I don't know what I was doing wrong but I never got anything free, except for all the spam and junk mail that is. lol I have read where many say they get free things and or great coupons, so not sure what we are doing wrong, but I am not one of those.

I have received some coupons in the mail, and some free things. If you print coupons from SwagBucks and redeem them, you eventually get 10 sb per coupon, same coupons, on MyPoints, you get ten points, same coupons, on Inbox Dollars you get ten cents per coupon. I like to find a coupon I like, print it all three places and stock up, if I have room to store it. It may take as much as twelve weeks to credit, though. I also put any extras on the shelf or give them to people, as it still credits my account, eventually.

Usually what I have a coupon for, isn't the cheapest way to buy it. I don't go into all the collecting, but my daughter and daughter n law have and they are both happy with it. I know my daughter ran around to 3 different stores last week getting the best sales and adding the coupons to it. Got to say, I did to when I had the kids home. Two weeks ago, I had 2 coupons for a $ off cat food and it was on sale, so I got 2 bags. That saved me some! but that is my normal. I had a coupon for a free candy bar only the store never had them in until after the coupon expired. I haven't seen the program but my daughter was telling me about it. I don't watch much tv.

I am not willing to give up the time, storage or brain cells that would be required to do that well. And of course they would not film and show an unsuccessful trip.

I've seen clips of the show and I'm in aww and ticked off at the same time. Part of the problem is the stores they go to double or triple coupon and let you stack. Here there's only one store that lets you double but it's only on FIVE coupons (not everything you want to buy that has a coupon but just FIVE coupons and sometimes run a special to do it up to 10 coupons... WHOOPTI DO DA DAY!) and you still have to buy $25 in groceries beside the items with the coupons. Which isn't a big deal but in a way it certainly is! Because I would only like to buy the items in which I'm getting my coupons doubled on. And yes if you know your prices you could get some deals BUT too much effort for FIVE things. Plus wasting $25 there when I know it'll go further at Aldi's. There's another grocery store moving into our area in the next year or two so hopefully they'll have bargains to be had there. I've also been told you can stack a walgreens coupon with a mfgr coupon. I've never done it since I don't get the paper and like I said I know my prices and Aldi is usually the cheapest 90% of the time in my area.

Oh and I've heard Target changed their coupon policies because of this show and they limit how many coupons for the same item. So if you have say 10 coupons for such and such product they will only allow you to use 4 and buy 4. Or that's what I've been told. I really need to afford some ink for my printer so I can print some out.

When I was a young, married mother, and not working as many hours, I did it, not to that extreme, but a few times, did not pay a dime for my order. It takes great time and planning. It's hard to do if you work, but for those women, it IS their job.

Hello bunny, well here in the UK we have supermarkets that do coupons and my hub who does all the shopping normally saves them, you can buy almost anything with the coupons and he saves a lot of money that way, but I am never one for coupons though, funny, but hbby is, thank goodness, lol! No, I do not do it on a grand scale. I do not do the Walgreens register rewards, or anything like that. I shop at Wal Mart, Sam's Club, Aldis and Dillons, which is Kroger and it is affiliated with some other stores. I use a "loyalty card" at Dillons Because I do that they send out packets of coupons based on my history. Got one last week. It had a dozen eggs for free, and coupons for an assortment of frozen things, and they will double up to $1--so 40 becomes 80, but 60 only becomes $1.00, still a good deal. Then it has a coupon that says $3.00 off when you purchase $15 from the frozen section. I also had a $2 off on a brand of vitamins. Okay, so I get the free eggs, all the frozen things that have coupons, get the $3 off, plus I needed Vit. C. The brand with the coupon was also buy one get one free. My total before coupons was over $38, but the coupons brought it down ten dollars. The store points out, though, that I saved over $22 because of the bogo on the vitamins. So today I got about $50 worth of stuff for $28. That is about as good as I go though. And that was not buying anything I would not normally buy, except a TGIF spinach dip. I usually get a store brand, but the coupon was $1 off, so I saved.

I also watched the show and got the feeling that they were really hoarding. I bet some of them even build rooms to store the stuff and if possible they would sell the products to neighbours. I get coupons in the fliers, but I see no need of buying things that I will not use or something that I will have to throw away after a while and what I will not eat. Not to mention if you join a coupon site, you have to print them and that means buying more ink for the printer. Here we have a survey to find out what coupons you will be interested in. And sometimes we have a major company give coupons but most of the time they send the coupons you will use. I do have discount cards for three major grocery chains and if it is allowed, will do double coupon on those days. I also use the coupons if the name brand is of better quality then the store brand.

Besides where would I put the things? And how can I afford it. Also with those ladies hoarding all those stuff, that means less stuff for everyone else and also it gives a wrong idea of how much the store needs to replenish the stuff. What happens if the ladies move away and the store finds that not many people are buying?

I rarely use coupons. Most of them are for junk foods, which I try to avoid. I rarely find coupons for meats or vegetables or fresh fruit so I just don't use them. And you're right, the store brand is usually cheaper even with a coupon! So I decided that clipping coupons was something I don't need the hassle of now that I live alone and don't eat the foods that provide those coupons. Since you have someone living with you, you might benefit from coupons but I don't so I long ago decided that was one chore I didn't need! And beside, printing coupons costs money. I recently unplugged my printer and am considering selling it, it's too expensive to operate.

I just looked at TLC schedule to see if I could find that show and was so shocked at what I saw. When I watched the station years ago it was actually informative. Now they have shows about the Duggars, about kids parties, dresses, cakes, tattoos, weddings, WTH?!! These are not educational, they are sensational. Another result of our dumbed down society.

so true. that station has went dumb. its become something just to waste time watching while doing other things. i only looked the program up because someone here mentioned it before. and yes, i feel some couponing would be useful here with 2 more in the house.

I can't spend that much time on that stuff, too many other things to do. I just get coupons on items that I am going to buy anyway, or on new things that I want to try out.

My first pointer would be not to watch that show. While I do sometimes catch an episode, I understand that what is being shown is not realistic; these people have been a lot of time, effort, and (sometimes) money into creating these "perfect" shopping trips for the sake of an episode of the show. Get a binder. Fill it with baseball card holder pages. Print out a template for dividers. Don't bother printing out a bunch of coupons. It's a waste of ink. Only print out what you are fairly certain that you will use. Don't join a bunch of couponing groups. Drop every single one that you don't find especially useful. Find one or two blogs that you really like and consult those to help plan your shopping trips. Do go to the websites for your favorite foods. Often, there are coupons available on their websites. Do join consumer panels for your favorite brands. These will sometimes reward you with coupons. Don't expect to save 90% or more on every shopping trip. That is not the norm. Do learn the coupon policies for the stores that you shop. Do stack coupons (use a store and a manufacturer's coupon) when it is allowed. Do take advantage of B1, G1 sales (and use coupons with these!). Do recognize that sales run in cycles, so no sale is a "last chance" deal (unless, of course, you're off shopping at a store that is going out of business). Do get store cards. Do ask for senior or student discounts if you fall into either category. Buy the things that you like. It isn't a savings if it is an item that will just end up getting tossed--that is true even if it was free. I do decently with the shopping. My major problem here is that food choices feel very limited. I try to follow a primarily organic, usually vegetarian diet, and Florida doesn't have a lot of the things that I'd come to take for granted when I lived in the North. It does get frustrating for me; however, I did have a revelation the other day regarding a particular store, which should make things a bit easier until I do return home to the North (and slip out of this culture shock that descended upon me nearly a year ago). There are blogs devoted to Walgreens and CVS. Entire tomes could be devoted to how to shop either one of those stores. It takes time and patience to learn how to maximize your dollars at them. I have, however, gotten pretty good at shopping both, which is how I now have a small stockpile of some items.

I definitely don't do it on a grand scale because the idea of clearing the shelves and also buying things that I'm not going to be using for a while is not something that is appealing to me. With that said, I have managed to get a few things for free, such as shampoo, toothpaste and also Ben Gay. I check krazycouponlady.com on a daily basis and they give a lot of tips to get things for free. In addition to that, we have a couple of different stores in our area that double coupons and that does make a huge difference as well.

I'm not very good at finding good deals with coupons either. Their is one place that I'm a member of that will give you a coupon for something free and will continue to do that for you as long as you do a survey right after you check it out. vocalpoint is the place that does that.Like I have a duster that is supposed to be mailed to me to check out.
