Now I don't want a literal answer or the exact size of the universe. But today I wondered about something. Universe is so big, it's so vast we have a lot of space. Now if it's that so big, isn't the space a waste if it's only us, the humans and the animals occupying this space in this enormous universe?
Aliens are what I see only in the movies. There's a lot of theories about them that nobody has really proven. I believe in God and I believe Him to be my Almighty Creator. But why is the universe so big?
I want to hear all your creative answers. I don't want to argue, I just want a clean interesting and funny discussions.

I believe God want to tell us that we are so small creature, we are nothing compared to the big universe.
Human is extremely greedy, and extremely proud. So God made an extremely big universe to tell human that we are nothing
It is also showing the almightiness of God :) So we cah be grateful and praise Him as well

you believe it because that is what God told you the reasons why the universe is big....
whereas...
God also preventing communications and possible information's between civilizations exists in other worlds(planets), to prevent the possibilities of "Star Wars", that is the reason why the Universe is extremely big and wide and impossible to travel to the matrix of space because no one breaks the speed of light space ships, only God can...
the more the spaceship travels fast, the more it drags...

@Toni
Thank you very much, and thank you for the best response
@mantis
Seriously, before prevent this "Star Wars", I think God try to prevent war between human first Because of human proud, greediness, and stupidity, then there're much wars happen in Earth. Maybe God want to tell, "See the big universe, you are nothing compare to that. So why should you being proud for yourself?"
But I guess most people haven't aware with that

i think your next question is:
"How far is the next universe starting from our own universe?"
because universe isn't only one, but a plenty of universes out there, like a plentiful of bubbles floating in an unknown space...
each bubble is a universe...
they call it "Multi-Verse"

Nah.. i wouldn't go there coz i don't know other universe exist. The universe where i am is already giving me too much confusion, don't wanna add more wrinkles to my face by thinking of the other universe!

I am not sure about the exact size of the Universe but comparatively I would say, the size of this earth as compared to the size of the Universe would be same as the size of the smallest virus that exist on earth as compared to this planet earth.
As far as Aliens are concerned, yes, they do exist and now top level scientists are very well aware of this fact. Aliens exist and they have been communicating with us from past.
It may sound confusing but yes, all the gods that we worship in different religions on earth, these people were from different planet and when they came here because of lack of technology, on earth, we felt they had some magical powers and they were gods.
You can imagine the age of this Universe is expected to be approximately 14+ billion years and the age of our earth is supposed to be approximately 4+ billion years.
Now the question is, would you believe that there was 'nothing' in this universe before we existed? I mean, for approximately 10 billion years just nothing??
If you believe in Probability (which is logical mathematics), I am sure you will not have any doubts in believing that there are much much advanced civilizations existing in this world which are immortal and their technology is beyond our imagination.
Even the high level scientists confirm this fact now, if you have some time, watch these interesting videos, it will certainly clear your doubts (if you have any):

I would like to mention an example. People say, as the other planets don't have Oxygen, water and other conditions for supporting life forms, it's not possible for any other intelligent life to exist on other planets.
What if someone says, there is no other operating system other than Windows because the exe files will not work. Wouldn't you laugh at it??
.dmg files are not supported on Windows platform but that doesn't mean that these files are useless and Mac OS does not exist.

we cannot say that this big universe is waste. there will so many aliens around other galaxies. it is just that we do not have enough technology to answer this question. but in future i am sure that scientists will develop a technology that will help to explore other galaxies and find millions of life. i am sue that there will be life in this universe.

True, there's no such thing as a waste when it has been created so artistically.
Don't want to have any serious thing with this discussion. I want it to be as fun as it could be through the creative imagination of mylot members.
Thanks for contributing.

The closest theory that I feel is right about aliens in this. IF, a big if too, the universe is infinite then mathematically speaking there are going to be aliens. Because of the infinite possibilities infinity gives us everything (that is allowed by physics and thermodynamics of our 4 dimensional universe) has happened, is happening, or will happen. ie billions and billions of light-years away from us it is possible that I'm typing this same exact thing. Only difference is, is that I'm left-handed there and here I'm a righty.

I couldn't give you exact size but I find it interesting that you brought up aliens as something that you only see in movies, see I think that there are "aliens" out there but they are probably not green nor do I believe that they have the ability to read minds or take over the universe, my guess is that they don't even know we exist, they could even be in another galaxy our scientist have said that no other planet could hold a human life form but since we have no idea what other galacies and what other stars are close enough to other planets to hold the human life form, act is some other planet could be just close enough to a star to produce climate very similiar to this... I don't know this to be fact but its fun to think about, huh?

Well i haven't seen real aliens in real life so i that's why i said they can only be seen from the movies as what i have understood them to be. And i've said i don't need the exact size of the universe so you don't have to.
I just want to know how creative can you be with this type of question.

majority of the people who do counter comment believe in existence of aliens...
it really shows that people now are starting to be open-minded....
and not depending in a single source....

that is the reason why learning is a lifetime....

Hi toni!
Universe is endless. What we assume as space is not actually so. If you happen to land on moon, you will see the same view of universe from there and from there earth will look like a moon. It is just a mirage that universe appears to give us a impression that it is having too much space.

If youve ever watched the history channel you will see they have had many sightings of UFO's and alien encounters. People who have been abducted. I believe in God and i do believe we are not the only ones in the universe. I believe ive met a alien or at least a half breed. She didnt have a belly button. It was pretty freaky.

The vastness of the universe is beyond human's capacity to measure. Indeed it is immeasurable. It is just so big that even the scientists have yet to examine and prove all the elements found in it. Now your question is, why is the universe that big? Only God the Master Creator could give the exact reasons why. Nevertheless, as a Christian I think I should think deeper. If scientists have discovered thousands upon thousands of galaxies in the universe and each contains millions of stars, then even forever is not enough to probe all these. I don’t think I would even waste time experimenting to prove anything about the universe at all. I would rather just enjoy the beauty and grandeur of this magnificent creation! Oh well I am not a scientist after all. However, it is enough for me to believe that all creations of God were made to declare His glory. So I believer the universe is that big because God wants His glory to be revealed in its vastness. The heavens itself declare the glory of God. When we look up the sky we can’t help but be awed by the breathtaking view seen by our naked eyes. At night the heavens declare even more of God’s glory in the universe. If we will use telescope we will get the chance to gaze more clearly the amazing Milky way, the moon, the stars, Venus, Saturn, Mars and all wonders of the universe reachable by telescopic view. Now how can we explain why this universe is so vast? We can’t really explain why but for me one of the reasons is because God wants us to see how great our God is and so that as we stand amazed with the vastness of the universe, we will all the more praise and revere His name. God wants us to realize we don’t have an ordinary god, He wants to reveal His unique greatness in all the things He created.
God is the greatest of all indeed, do you know that He did not just make a vast universe but He also knows the number of the stars and call each of them by name and when God calls them they stand up together! Now isn’t that even more amazing!

So only the existence of animals are important to you? No, I do not think that it is a waste of space. I think that the existence of all things is great. And this is all just running of an assumption that we are the only life in the entire universe, which is very unlikely. There are a lot of theories on God that nobody has really proven, but you believe that, so that's not really a good reason to not believe in extraterrestrial beings.

Universe is bigger than humans ever imagined and the more interesting fact is that it is still expanding and the rate of expansion is increasing with time.
The reason we have never been able to explore it is that we are not advanced enough to travel the vast distances in between stars and galaxies.
@toniganzon (72281)

Then will there come a time that we would be technologically advanced to explore it or it would just continue to expand we will never get the chance to know?

Universe is bigger than our imagination..! I think there is no limit for the Universe., and thats why we are unable to imagine it. Some Scientists say about BigBang Theory, but I don't agree with it, because if there happened any big explosion like that then what is the reason for that..!? No one knows. May be its because this reason I believe in God and him to be Almighty creator.
According to me there is nbo limit for Universe..!

OH the bigbang theory coincides with the creation of Earth by God. In Genesis it was mentioned there though it was not stated as a bigbang but it can be correlated. Though science couldn't explain it, i believe the bible can. I am a believer of God as the Creator of all things too.

here is a good example:
take a handkerchief and wrap it in your head so that your eyes can't see....
then ask a friend to let him show you the way to the railroad
when both of you reach there, ask him to help you put your ears to touch that railroad track iron bar with your ears and listen....
due extremely wide and a very dark depth of universe, you can't see it's edge....
it's like blindfolded using handkerchief....
therefore,
without using your eyes, your ears can tell whether there is an oncoming train towards you and your friend by just listening to the sounds it produce in the railroad tracks...

HI toni --- you have asked certain questions about the universe. To be frank nobody will have any answer. The space is endless. It can accommodate any number of universe. There may be several universe. Our universe is created for us i.e. for the human beings. God might have created several other universe for the sake of other type of beings. The enormous and amazing universe in which we live may be enormous and amazing to you. But to God, our universe may be a tiny dot.
Don't believe in Big Bank Theories advanced by the scientists. Creator [i.e. God] must be there to create

a series of universes...
and that is what they called "MULTI-VERSE"
and i truly believe on that....
plenty of bubbles floating in an unknown kind of space....
inside of each bubble is a universe....
that each bubble is expanding until now....
therefore....
there are plenty of bigbangs out there....

ok i like this.. well they say the universe is about 150 billion light years in diameter and still growing! 13.5 billion light years long thats to do with how long it takes light to reach us.. I do think there are other life forms out there not like us humans but a life of sorts :)

Hi toniganzon, This is one of the questions that we cannot answer, at least as humans conceive things. It's like asking does space end, and if it does, what's on the other side? People say that God is without beginning and without end and this is something that the human mind cannot comprehend as well. There may be many universes and there may be life on most planets in these universes, it's something that we don't know as yet.Just because we haven't seen life doesn't mean there isn't any. Blessings.

Since I am not a scientist, I would definitely not able to give you numbers and sizes. I've read somewhere somewhere about this and I don't remember. If you watch Discovery or Science channel, or take physics course, you will learn so much that parts of general population would not really care. Even with greater scientific technology and methods, it's hard to tell the exact size of the universe.
I believe in God or at least I believe the power of all powers. Somehow God is the answer of the universe. Put in another way, there is a SOURCE that somehow noone, no greater technology can understand, reach, or discern.
You mention alien. Many scientists are looking for somekind of lifeforms across the galaxy. Do aliens exist? Nobody knows, but somehow there is a belief that there is/are

I think the Universe is endless with infinite amount of planets, meteors, stars and all kinds of creations. It's probably life out there somewhere. I do not think we are the only living creature in the Universe. It's fascinating when they travel to the Moon and Mars and explore the planets close to earth.

Universe has it's end....
that is the reason why our own visible universe are expanding....
see that red shift on the Hubble space telescopes....
but....
a series of universes (multi-verse)
bubbles everywhere, plenty of bubbles you can't count on....
that each bubble contains 1 (one) universe....
i don't know what is there (the space) between the bubbles is like asking
"i don't know what is there (the space) between the universes"

I ponder about the size of the universe expanding and at one time there was a beginning and the universe was no bigger than an atom. It boggles my mind, but that is how I think of the universe... what if the universe is the size of an atom, and we are all tiny parts inside of it? We seem like we are so big, and things are much bigger than us... but what if we were as small as the bacteria on our skin? but really have no concept of our size and the size of the universe?

Well the Universe has two famous theories
1) Steady State Theory : The Universe is the same and will remain the same, the size no on eknows
2) Big Bang Theory : Before the Universe was a big Globe of mass it exploded and all the things formed up eventually
3) Expanding Universe : The Universe is expanding at the rate by which it is expanding insides.
Apart from this i think that it the Biggest mystry and will be known in the susequent centuries.

Perhaps it was designed to give us lots of room for expansion. We just haven't reached a time where we can exploit it all yet.
Or maybe it was designed that way to keep all intelligent life close enough to remain actively interested and yet far enough away to prevent physical contact.
@toniganzon (72281)

Or maybe it was designed to be as mysterious as it is so we'll forever be wondering and giving theories of our own?
