Is my cat allergic to her collar?

I got a kitten about four months ago, and only just worked up the courage to flea-collar her. Thing is, now she has what feels like scabs or a rash (she's really fluffy, so I can't see it very well) on her head near the collar. She didn't have these before. Are they scabs from her scratching her head? Or is she mildly allergic to the collar? Either way, I need to know whether or not I should take it off. We also have a dog, and he gets fleas. I don't want fleas on my kitten, but I don't want her to be uncomfortable or in danger. Why do you mylotters think? Ideas on what it is? Suggestions?

lol ElicBxn might be right. Are you sure the collar is approved for a kitten that young? I almost bought a flea collar for my kitten, but I read the instructions and found out the brand advised you didn't use them on kitten younger than 6 months old. Your collar might be different, but re-read the labels to make sure. Like Cass said, take off the collar and try a liquid treatment.
