I'm 20 and will turn 21 next month. I never had to deal with dandruffs before. I was always wondering why people have it the first place. I just started noticing that I too have dandruff. Mines a little weird though because I only seldom get the flaky kind, mines the greasy dandruff it that makes sense (I'm sorry if I'm disgusting you at the very moment ). I shower everyday and I still have it. I think my new shampoo is one reason but I love the scent too much to give it up... How do you get rid of it permanently? Thanks!

Your shampoo could be part of the problem. However, the fact that you are washing your hair every day is not helping the situation.
Many people think that washing their hair every day is a good thing, but really it is not. Our bodies produce a natural oil, which is why if you do not wash your hair for a long period of time it becomes oily. However, this oil helps to keep our hair and scalp healthy, so if you are washing it off every day, then you are actually helping to dry out and damage your hair and scalp, which will produce dandruff.

Nowadays, there are a lot of anti dandruff shampoo is existing already. Maybe try some of those shampoo and see what really really suits you. Because each of us have different responses on different shampoo. Some will give good results on you but with me might not. Or consult a doctor who specializes that, maybe they would know what really good for you.

some people really think it's the shampoo that they use that caused them dandruff. so they are really very choosy with the shampoo they use the next time they took their shower. i remember i also had dandruff and what caused me that, i really did not. but i tried guard shampoo before and my dandruff were gone. since then, i have no problem with dandruff anymore, no matter what shampoo i use.

You really got a problem my friend.Since you have thought that maybe your new shampoo could be a factor then you should try another brand. There are some shampoos that promises to remove dandruff but I doubt it too.You can try consulting a dermatologist too for your dandruff problems.

Dry scalp, excessive sweating can also affect the hygiene of your scalp. Perhaps now that you are older, you have more exposure to the outdoors, or your daily routine is affecting you.
Of course your shampoo brand can have an affect, but usually it just means you didn't rinse the shampoo out properly for it to result in dandruff. Or perhaps your new product is really drying your scalp.
But from what I understand of dandruff is dry scalp, that is why its usually itchy and scaly. Perhaps if changing shampoo, or rinsing properly doesn't help, try selsun blue, the dandruff shampoo

Hello tessa9,
You cannot get rid of dandruff if there are any products in the market that claim to remove dandruff its just hype. I get dandruff even if I don't put any conditioners or grease. It's natural dont worry just wash your hair often if you dont like seeing them

I had bad dandruff problems few years back so started using anti-dandruff shampoo from Garnier. It helped control my dandruff very much. Now I don't have that much of a problem so I have changed my shampoo to normal one because you know chemicals they use in anti-dandruff shampoo could be harmful. My suggestion, would be that use anti-dandruff shampoo for a while then when you have them under control change back to your old shampoo or new one but do use anti-dandruff once in a while when you see them coming back!!

I do hate dandruff too. I've been having trouble with it since i was 15. I've tried a lot of shampoos already but nothing works. Some shampoos only take away the itch but not the flaking....others are too strong that make my hair too brittle. I consulted a doctor before and told me that dandruff can be stress related. It could also be caused by the food that i eat. So the best way not have it is to avoid stress and eat right....stressful...right!

Well you can get rid of it but there is no way to make sure you never get it again. My son was having the same problem. I bought him Pert Dandruff free shampoo and it worked really well for him. His hair was shiny and dandruff free. The fact that you have dandruff means that your scalp is dry. Try a deep conditioning treatment and use a dandruff shampoo until the problem goes away. Use a conditioner specially formulated for dry hair.

Hi Tessa!
Something is causing your scalp to be to dry and it could be several factors; Washing hair daily is drying out the natural oils. Some shampoos are too harsh which can dry out the scalp too. Sometimes the scalp is not producing enough oil so it is drying out as well.
So those are some of the things I know that can cause it. You can ask a salon stylist for a good brand of shampoo and or consult your doctor as well.

I had a problem of dandruff before when I stayed in the hostel for a year and has never come back again I don't really know how I got rid of them, or how they disappeared
Anyway I do take showers everyday but only wash my hair every other day. Like you said it might have been the shampoo. I have tried many shampoos and some of them really made my hair so weird!!
Anyway apparently, if you rub aloe vera, the plant, on your head, it gets rid of your dandruff. You have to rub the inside part of it to your head. Haven't tried it myself though.

It ma have been caused by your new shampoo. You can go back to the one you have been using before you have the dandruff. Or it can also be a cause of stress. I always seem to have dandruff when I am very stressed. It is awful to have them and the itch is not easy to stand. There are medicated shampoos that you can try as well.

I also hate dandruff. It ruins my day everyday. My mom told me to change my shampoo and when I put conditioner, I should not put it on my scalp because this is the root cause of having a dandruff. I tried it and it works. also, I avoid using ordinary shampoos instead, i use shampoo which contains ingredients to prevent having a dandruff. :-P

If the reason for having dandruff is your shampoo, then the best thing to do is to try another brand. I'm also having problem with dandruff whenever I use Pantene and Palmolive. I hate the fact that my scalp is reacting to those brands.

I honestly have this kind of problem with my hair as well. I really hate having it. The itch irritates me sometime especially when the weather is too hot. I have tried a log of shampoos already as well as those commercialized anti-dandruff ones but it never took any effect on my hair. I am having hair fall already because of the dandruff, but what can I do, I too can't find any permanent solution on this problem.

hello,
You know what it is alright to share to us what you are experiencing because I also suffering from dandruff and I also hate this because people noticed it but I cant help it because I always commute and the sun heat cannot be tolerated. Sometimes this are the cause of our dandruff. I've tried many products in my hair but nothing is effective for this.
