When you are someplace that you need to be quiet but have to cough do you try to keep it in until you have a big cough and everyone looks around or keep doing little coughs until someone offers you a drink?

When I'm in the office, I try my best to keep my cough as quiet as possible but if I can't help it, I just cough til the phlegm is all out.

If I need to be quiet, I would probably be alone or in a quiet place where there is hardly anyone nearby. So, if I happen to need to cough, I will just cough until the cough stops. However, if I am in class or in a place with many people, I will try to hold it. But in the event that I can't, I will normally use my hand or tissue paper to cover my mouth.

In a situation like that, I would prefer little coughs because mostly they go unnoticed. Small coughs are bearable.
Coughing cannot be hidden and if one do, then the result could be big embarrassing coughs which can go on for minutes before stopping. I think none can bear this and everyone would be wondering who the person is, and they would love to have a look- its so embarrassing.
