Dark Lipstick

MAC Musky Amethyst - Gothic red!

I was looking through a fashion magazine and I see that there are a lot of really dark lipsticks on the models at the moment. I'm quite taken with this because I've always liked the sultry screen siren look done with darker shades, from the 1920s and 30s, however, I've never quite found the shade for me. The danger is that with a too purple shade especially, the skin can look too pale and the eyes slightly sunken. I've never dared darker than MAC Viva Glam IV for evening wear. I recently picked up a tube of MAC "Musky Amethyst" and a dark pencil to try the look myself. It's important to get the line just right, but even so, this is one that really shows when it bleeds into the cracks around your lips unfortunately. It doubles up as a colour to blend into the cheeks too, because anything too pink will clash. I think in the right circumstances, I'll try this one again. It's a beautiful colour.

im not daring enough to pull off a dark lipstick but some people really pull it off and it looks great. I think it just takes confidence to be that bold. Good luck finding a shade you love:)

I often go for bold lipstick shades in bright red or pink because I just like a bright pop of colour. It cheers me up! This is my first foray into really dark shades since I was a teenage goth though. Thanks.

lipstick - light pink shade
I guess dark lipsticks can't be worn in ordinary occasion. For my daily use I use just light pink or very light red on my lips. Also, dark lipsticks are for ladies gifted with beautifully shaped lips. But if lips are too thick and wide, putting dark lipsticks will all the more accentuate the defect. It is so awkward if wide lips are colored heavily. So for those who are not gifted with heart-shaped and smooth lips I think it is better to use only light colors on your lips.

It's definitely not a look for everyone. It takes some gumption! When I went out during the day time wearing it I was quite conscious of it and I kept having to wipe along the lip line where the colour kept bleeding into the tiny lines around my mouth! Thanks

I use make up everyday, but I don't have the courage to use these dark colors. I even never used a red lipstick, only pink ones, and most of them are very light. Maybe one day..

I always like putting light shades of lip stick with gloss. Not very fond of darker shades- shades of pink , red or light coffee are good for me. but if you like it and it suits you then great. Go ahead keep experimenting.

I am not that particular for make-ups, as long as the woman can carry herself confidently whatever shades she used. There are some point that girls wear dark shades to show their inner personality, a sign of being rebellious. But then, I prefer light shades, it reflects the inner beauty of a woman.
