Wow. I might have had a new laptop for a record amount of time! 3 whole days before the screen went out and wouldn't work. Tech support said it was a hardware problem and wanted to know if we wanted to send it in for repair? No way. We returned it to walmart and got a new HP laptop instead. Spent $50 more, but we'll see how it turns out.

After the nVidia chip fiasco which I experienced on my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop, I promised myself not to purchase any HP products or anything with relation to them, unless they are under $100. My DV6000 lasted only for 13 months, just as my warranty expired, how convenient? And then I have to suffer for a terrible tech support. I have since then purchased an ASUS x80L and for almost three years now, I haven't encountered any major hardware problems yet. Its good that HP has shut-down their PC manufacturing business.

Yea that is very interesting? Do you know or remember what activities you were doing to the computer prior to the black screen? I must remind you, compaq is owned by HP, hopefully you will not face the same problem again.
Perhaps the one you purchase was a malfunctioned one off the line. I know the odds are low, but usually companies have like 1-2% of broken products in their production lines, they should have been able to sweep it out. But One may have passed through.
Hopefully, you will have better luck with the one you purchase. I really hate it when you purchase an electronic and it fails you after a couple runs. Rare occasions, but it does happen.
Good luck!

My desktop is compaq and it has been good, for probably more than ten years. My laptop is a dell, but my other one was an HP and you cannot blame HP for thundersnow and the computer going out. Son bought one online a lot like it. I have had good luck with HP.

in my opinion a lot of computer hardware goes bad nowadays because companies are trying to produce products at a faster pace. any computer manufacturer may have the same problems as hp. thats why they have a warranty.

I hope this one holds up better. It is so discouraging to buy things and then they don't work.

Wow! I am sorry to hear about that. I had some problems with my new Acer after a mere three months. It wouldn't boot and all I got was a blank screen with a blinking cursor. I was told it was a hardware problem and would have to be sent to Texas to be repaired, but luckily my dad is a programmer and he was able to take it to his office where he and his friend fixed it, which I am extremely grateful for.
I hope you enjoy your new HP and that it will last you a good while!

They should check the quality on every detail before they can put up there for sale. That is kind of fast in running out. I had a TV before bought it from HHGregg, and last for 20 days. We brought back to exchange another one. Kind of fast for a new TV too.

It might have been a factory defect, it's a good thing that you returned it, a repair would only cost you time and money. If a product is always under a warranty period, I always advise people to just return it. Most service center would take weeks even months just for a single repair.
