Well it is often said in here that when a woman knows how to cook already, then she is ready for marriage... why is that so? should a girl really need to know how to cook? why is it even thought of as a necessity? will it make us, woman any less if we do not know how to cook?

In my opinion, I am in between. It's not necessary but somehow it is especially when having a family. First, it's not necessary when your single because you don't have a family to tend to plus you can eat whenever you want anyway. For me it's only the society's standard that a woman should know how to cook. But on the other hand, women SHOULD know how to cook, practically speaking especially when having a family to feed. Why? Because, since everything's pricey right now, I believe it's not practical to bring all of the family to eat out on every meal. It's in a way saving much money for other household needs. And knowing how to cook benefits a lot to a woman. It adds up to your skills and it draws loved ones and other people admire and love you. ;)

I think it should be your own decision, If you love cooking then you will learn it anyway and if you don't like then maybe you have some other talents and then you should find them. For me I think I would love to have a wife who know cooking, but that doesn't mean that I don't know the cooking. I do the cooking for myself and If will live together then I will also cook for us. It is important to have some other talents to earn for yourself or your family. It also provides you a financial freedom.

Anyone who learns how to cook will find his or her life easier and more comfortable as he or she can cook food without going out to a restaurant for a meal. Though a lot of women know how to cook, yet men are also learning how to cook. In families in our country, many family cook for the family as well if their wives are busy with their work. So whoever cooks for the family doesn't matter.

being a husband, it is my humble opinion that a woman should learn how to cook good food, not only learn how to cook but cook good food. it is but a reality that most women are left in the house while the kids go to school and the husband is working.

Yes, I think it is very important that a girl learns how to cook. It may not make us less of being a woman, but it can add up flavor to the relationship. It's a girls thing to cook and not really of a man's. If we want our husbands to be, to be happy and stay with us, we should know a little on cooking so as to surprise him with a meal when he goes home after a long day's work.

Hello chiyosan. In my opinion every woman and every MAN should learn to cook even if they are single. Even if neither one ever married or had a family There can be times when it is not convenient to dine out or have food delivered. Besides know how to cook allows you to make better choices if and when inning out.

EVERYONE should learn how to cook. regardless of gender, skin colour, height, favourite flower, whatever. cooking is a useful skill for everyone. only the very wealthy can expect to go through life without ever having to cook. not only is it a necessary life skill, for many people it is an enjoyable thing to do, and can even open up further opportunities for employment, which would not be there for someone that can't cook. I would disagree that when a woman can cook she is ready for marriage. an ability to make food is NOT enough to prove that you are ready for a lifelong commitment to another human being.

I believe both women and men should know how to cook. I believe everyone should learn to cook for one day you might need to. Of course a women is the one really should be learning to cook as she will grow up to worry about her husband and family eating one day but then again the man should worry about feeding is wife and family one day. I believe it everyone learns to cook then everyone in life can take turns and not leave it up to just one person everday to cook because its not right to lay it down on one person everyday to cook because its not like we like to do its just something that has to be done everyday for someone to survive.

Have a great advantage that anybody learn how to cook. Not only for itself but for the family as well. It is a trend or practice in the Philippines, I don't know in other countries, that a girl have a big obligation to prepare food for the family. That's why a girl must trained before going to married.

I guess it is assumed that women will learn to cook so she can take care of her husband and family. Learning to cook should be something everyone learns how to do not just girls.. boys should also be taught how to cook so they can take care of themselves in college and if they never marry... and if they do marry .. learning to cook will be of a great help to the wife.. where both can cook and help one another. Children should be taught to cook to be independent.

Cooking is a great skill for a woman to learn not only fried but also able to cook different varieties of dishes. I watched a movie a while ago somewhat related to this. A guy got mad to his girlfriend because he eat fried dishes everyday and he feels no appetite at all while her girlfriend sister prepared a different dish and the guy eat. Regardless of your civil status at least you need to learn how to cook to prepare in the future.

Yes, I agree with almost everyone here saying that both man and woman should or must know how to cook. Especially during emergencies like when one of them got sick, at least cooking simple food to fill our stomach is much better than running around to find a ready-to-eat food somewhere.

Cooking is important for everybody, including husband and wife. Since usually woman tend to spend more time taking care of the family. So it is better for a woman to know how to cook. Especially there is a saying: If you want to catch your husband's heart, at first you have to catch his stomach. You can see how important the cooking is. Nobody knows to cook when they were born. You can learn it. I love China

These days, NO ONE has to learn to cook...just know how to press buttons on a nuker! Granted, not as healthy, but still... I don't think it "makes" a woman to know how to cook. THat isn't the only thing in life to succeed on and most certainly, nothing that will make you better or worse if you don't know. In my case... everyone I have ever cooked for, pot lucks..you name it..if I cooked something I got rave reviews. However...my husband doesn't like it when I get credit for things he thinks he is good at so he refuses to eat anything I make. SO...these days... I dont' have to cook! I don't miss it, but don't mind doing it when the kids come over! His loss!!! I hate doing dishes so it works fine for me! If you want to cook, learn how to. if you don't...you won't go hungry! My daughter refused to learn to cook. When they were kids, we didn't have nukers...just the oven. So everything I ever cooked was from scratch. She didn't have the slightest incling to learn as many times as I tried or encouraged her to learn. When she got married, she thought she'd cook something for her new husband. I went over one night and she was so proud to tell me she'd made jello, but it didn't turn out right. She said she just used hot tap water cause they didn't have a pot to boil the water. I asked her...why didn't you just boil the water in the nuker? She said "Oh. I didn't know you could do that". And she was serious as all get-out! She literally didn't know! So.. I'd say to help yourself, learn a little. Why not? Never know when you will need to feed yourself!!!

I think it's a task of Women since time began, men hunt and we cook it up. I think it's a necessity for both genders to learn how to cook. Now days people are more career oriented and are staying single longer which means they have to learn to cook for themselves, impose on someone else, or eat out.

I feel that everyone should know how to cook. We have to eat to survive so you need to know how to cook wether you get married or not. In my house the men all knew how t cook as well as us women, sometimes even better.
