I always have my regular check up especially with my OB-GYN, who is a woman, and I prefer a woman doctor because for my OB, but if its on my thyroid or EENT, its fine it could be a man or woman, it doesnt matter as long as they are good doctors. Sometimes, in some hospitals we can choose whether we want a man or a woman, but it doesnt matter sometimes because both genders are competent and can be great doctors. How about you mylotters, who do you prefer as your doctor, a man or a woman? Are there any differences for you?

Look,a doctor is someone who saves your life so i think that it doesnt matter much if the doctor is man or a woman.for me,the efficiency of the doctors matters more than the gender and you can see women doctors are efficient in some specialties and men doctors are efficient in other specialties also,so in my opinion i think you should choose the doctor according to the person that meet your needs and make you feel well and comfortable :)

Yeah I know, you are right but I also think that if you are not comfortable with the doctor who is examining you, chances are you will not be fully receptive to the treatment you are being given or most likely you will not be fully honest with what you are really feeling. And if a patient is not honest with his or her feeling, then the doctor may not be able to get the full details of what you are really feeling.

well, being comfortable with doctor will not depend that much on the gender.it is about the doctor's technique to satisfy you.there are many women who are not good in dealing with women and vice versa so it is always refers to how the doctor deals with you after all.actually im a medical student also and i study medical ethics so i can tell you that doctors are educated to satisfy the patient whatever it takes and whatever your or your patient gender is :)

well, i'm not really fussy about the gender... as long as they are good doctors and doing the right thing to cure me, that is more important to me rather than the gender... take care and have a nice day...

Personally speaking, when I go to hospital for help, what I care about is the doctor's skills and experience instead of his or her gender. I understand that most female patients prefer female doctors to male doctors when their diseases are related to their genders. But in reality, due to some reasons, the lack of female doctors has always been and will be a problem for a long time, which makes female patients feel awkward sometimes.

Well yeah you do have a good point there that it doesnt really matter which gender is the doctor but for me it depends, for my OB I would prefer a woman doctor. Im still that shy and all for a man to see my privates you know. :) But then for all the other conditions that I need check up on, it depends on the skills and competency of the doctor, and I would usually go a good hospital where the doctors are trusted by many.

For an OB/GYN, I prefer a woman. For anything else, I want a man.

Well it doesn't matter to me I have a male OBGYN and like you said as long as they are good doctors, some women would feel more comfortable with a woman doctor because they may not want any male doctors examining them which is perfectly fine.

Yeah I'm just not comfortable with a male doctor examining me, there are good women doctors so I dont have a problem with them.

When it comes to OB-GYN, i prefer a woman. But I prefer a male doctor, because they are easy to deal with. They are so straight forward when it comes to facts. And i also prefer not-so-male doctor. We have one here at a nearby hospital. When i was diagnosed of dengue last summer, he was the one who looked after me. Gender doesn't really matter when it comes to doctors.

Yeah a woman for me too for my OB! Male doctors are easy to deal with I agree with you that, some women doctors tend to be chatty which is fine too because I know that they are just digging deep probably on the cause of the problem and to better treat you with whatever condition you may have.
