Greed?

Would you be grateful if you get half a month's bonus or would you demand for more?
Recently the Malaysian Government gave civil servants half a month bonus to we;come the end of the fasting month. The bonus was given to all civil servants regardless of religious belief.
Instead of being grateful many civil servants grumbled because they wanted a two months bonus. Was it greed, or they did not understand the basics of a nation's economy?
In my opinion we should be grateful with whatever is given especially in the present global economic situation.

Most people now are so blinded and crippled by poverty that they tend to blame everybody else for their status and try to get as much from anything as possible. It is the same case here in our country, people blaming the government for anything, although they have good points some of the times. I don't know whether to pity them or just feel disgusted.

Unfortunately the grumblings were louder from those earning a big salary. In general those from the lower income group were grateful for the extra spending money. That is why the greed came in.
It is easier to put the blame on the Government instead of introspecting.

i will be very grateful if i am given a bonus regardless of the amount... especially in the current economic conditions... i am even grateful that i still have a job and can still earn money to fulfill my daily needs and pay my bills... take care and have a nice day...

I think those who complain a lot have not experienced hardship in its true sense. i think those in the middle and higher income groups want a more luxurious life - expensive clothes and expensive foodstuff, maybe to keep up with the Joneses. For example many families have two cars.

Wow!! To me this is definate greed, and something you would think that they would be Thankful for, instead of demanding more. I know many times in some of the companies that I have worked for, I would Love to have the chance to get a Bonus. In one we get a small bonus at Christmas time and it is appreciated. But to be demanding more is Thankless for sure.

Yes, I certainly agree with you. A bonus is a bonus, regardless of the amount given. It is afterall a recognition of the service , and one has to be happy for that. The authorities must have taken into consideration all related factors thoroughly before making the decision.

Okay, does this mean you take off your regular job and are required to fast instead for a month, kind of like if we are called to jury duty, we will get paid because we take off from our regular jobs.
I guess if you take off to fast for 30 days, your bills may fall behind some that month. But if this is something that you believe in, you should probably have made plans for the month that would come up short, besides, you will probably be blessed more than you would have made that month, so 1/2 month would sound good to me.

Thanks for the response. I was not sure on how to comment back, afraid I may go off on a tangent to what you wrote.
It was the Islamic fasting month, not something forced by the Government. The workers still get their regular salary. The bonus was not a year end bonus. It was meant for the people to celebrate the festival that followed the fasting month.

I don't know why they asked for more. Might be there was a long discussion about it or some other discussions about a financial extra. If I would receive some extra I would be very happy of it and never think about asking for more.
