I'd choose knowledge over money anytime

Some people already know I'm about to leave my job as a Contact Center Manager and they're doubting my decision and my sanity. I don't have any qualms about my salary or the people who work under me. I just think it's time to move on to rediscover the things I aspire to do in life. One of those is to help people and the other is to gain more knowledge. I've been receiving offers left and right with high salaries and i've politely turned them down. Of course I told them that I might reconsider in the future but for now, I would like to focus on what I really want to do in life. When I was 3, my Uncle asked me what I wanted to be and I told him I wanted to be a book writer (Back then, I barely knew that the technical term was "Author". Heck, I could barely pronounce it nor spell it. Hahaha) So Even if I didn't know what it took to become one, I wanted to be one. Which probably explains why for the next couple of years and up to the present I've immersed myself in so many reading materials and amassed a huge library (Sadly, My entire book and magazine collection burned. My comics too. I'm slowly rebuilding my collection) Money comes and goes. Knowledge sticks forever and as long as you practice it, it'll always be ready on hand for you to use. Have you ever noticed how Php 500.00 seems to disappear within a couple of hours if you use it to enjoy yourself? Now imagine having a book or few books worth Php 500.00 and you read it and digest it as best as you can, I'm sure you will be able to retain the important parts for at least a day and hopefully for most a couple of months to a few years. And if you read something worthwhile and applied it to whatever you're doing in life, I'm sure it'll give you more money. That or you can sell the book. Hehe So again, I'd choose knowledge over money. Any time.

Knowledge is a key component in life in many ways for sure. In fact, to not have knowledge, with money, that is just asking for a great deal of problems. We won't have the knowledge or common sense to properly put ourselves in a better position later on. Granted a lot of people tend to look at things in the short term and not the long term. There are going to be many people who are rather many people who are going to think that money is the answer right away. However, having a lot of knowledge, that is really not something that can steer you wrong. It is going to improve the quality of your life. You can always make that money later on in life, by applying the knowledge that you have in the future. However know as much as you can and then go from there, to do the best you can do, get as much knowledge as you can and keep reaching for the stars.

So you mean to say you'd rather choose studying rather being offered a million dollars? Seriously speaking, you do have a point. Knowledge is power and you can always earn money using your knowledge so choosing knowledge is pretty much choosing both. Pretty practical.

I too had a huge library of books but down through the years with as much moving as I have had to do I have had to let loose of alot of them. Too heavy to move all the time. ANd I too have wanted to be a writer (author) and am in the process of writing a novel that I hope to publish one day.

That's why parents even of having a financial incapability, sent their children to school to earn knowledge, because knowledge is a wealth that no one can stolen from you. So I salute you chipes to choose this wealth that is not be vanish over money which is also wealth that as you said 'comes and goes'. On the other side knowledge is a great source of money. So, go on chipes to your goal and wishing for your success.

First of all congratulations from me on your such pure and beautiful topic. Well when I started online work and joined different forums, I always mentioned my Motto with my profile which was and is, "Earning with Learning" or Learning with Earning" both have same meanings. I admit, What I have learn is more powerful instead of what I have earn. So Money is nothing in front of knowledge no doubt about it or there is no other opinion but taking decision with this knowledge wisely is the important part of our learning and life. Which I hope you will keep in your mind and it will help you in the future. Cheers

I understand you want to do something that you enjoy in life, but at the same time you have to be realistic. You are taking a risk, living a job that pays you a fixed salary to survive? You said you want to help people but for you to help people you need money, where are you going to get the money? You also speak about selling a book, do you know how difficult it is to publish a book? Anyway good luck to you I hope you are make a wise choice.

Yes,I support your discussion as money comes and goes but the real asset we earn is the knowledge which we gain during the lifes movements. Knowledge gained will last until the last breath and will surely be useful in some part of life and it is not at all a waste....which many people think.

I agree with you. That knowledge is truly wonderful.Wisdom the ability to apply knowledge to benefit ourselves, and others is absolutely amazing. There are so many things that we can learn and strive to apply in our life. I love learning and working on different projects in my life. I could spend countless hours studying and striving to apply the things that I learn. I feel there are always areas where improvement can be made. I say to you congratulations and I hope you have a wonderful time accomplishing your new goals.
