Procrastination can be fun, but how do I stop doing it?

I have a massive problem with procrastination. In fact, right now i'm meant to be doing a massive college project that's due tomorrow, and I haven't even started, AND IT'S night!. Haha!, let's see how you get yourself out of this one, Ankit. But it's alright, i'll find an excuse, as always. I don't know why i procrastinate so much, could be somewhat due to the fact that I listen to Led Zeppelin while doing homework, which means instead of doing homework i'm just listening to pure awesomeness. But the other day, I realized that procrastination really isn't that bad. I don' get bad grades because of it, and it saves me So much time. I found that the best way to stop worrying and getting stressed about work, is to dump it all on your future self. It works every time. Don't worry, he's a reliable guy, he'll get it done, for now just sit back and relax, put on some Zeppelin and enjoy life without work. And it's not really that bad doing at midnight, sure you'll be tired a college the next day, but two coffees in the morning and one at lunch time usually fixes that.
But, I do realize that it's a bad habit to get into. So what are some ways that I can stop this once and for all and do my assigments after college everynight like everbody else. Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Hi ankitbhat,
Maybe, you need to get rid of Led Zeppelin. He's occupying your time, you can't work.
Perhaps, you need to have zero-music for a while as you work on that project. Try it. Maybe, it will be an effective medicine for procrastination.

Hi ankitbhat,
Oh, sorry to hear about that. I know music is life to you, especially Led Zeppelin. If that is so, maybe, there are some other ways to stop procrastination while doing on a project. The desire to work is within you. You alone have that power to tell your inner self to stop procrastination and get down to work. I hope music is a powerful tool to excite you to work, and not to bring you down to procrastinate because that is where the problem begins.

I find myself doing it at times.
At the very end I am up against the clock but I seem motivated better to do it.
But maybe thats how some of us just work.
Good Luck on getting your report finished!

The best thing I can suggest to you is to just change your mind. Remind yourself that you get stressed at the last minute trying to do everything, and that you hate having to stay up and work when you could be staying up to party or hang out with friends instead. Do a little at a time, an hour of work on a project a day, and then three hours one day and you'll be done, then party party party when all your other friends are work work working.

Well the first thing is thats it is all in your mind and oyu have to tell yourself to not do certain things and get other things done. I hate this and sometimes i will be on facebook and i tell myself i need to get off and go on mylot but it doesnt happen that easy i get sucked into doing that and not making the money online that i should do. I know how you feel and its not fun at all of course but you just have to tell yourself that and keep telling yourself and also another thing is to getting your college papers done just start writing your paper up and then maybe stop and go back to it in time and also print out the things you may need and highlight wha you need done while even listening to your music and then you will start getting things done while your listening to your music. Just a thought but goodluck.

Procrastination is my absolute favorite thing to do! But you are right, it's a hard habit to break. I've found myself in serious trouble a few times because of procrastination. What I usually do to avoid doing it is to get away from things that distract me from doing what I'm supposed to do. For example, I usually juz stay in my room when I don't have anything to do (or rather, when I'm not doing what I'm supposed to be doing). So I go out into the living room and bring notes for the project or whatever else. I try to avoid my room until I've finished my task, or at least until I've made 75% progress on it. I also make deals with myself: an extra hour of sleep, a movie, favorite ice cream, when I've finished with my task. Usually, its a motivation thing. But once you've gotten over the initial hurdle of mentally preparing yourself to avoid procrastinating, it gets easier.

I think once we get into the habit of procrastinating, it can be difficult to get out of it. But if you really set your mind to it you can greatly improve. One thing I would suggest you do is when you get home, to just get started. Once you are at home make sure your surroundings are relaxing and not distracting. And just get started. Don't hold off until later. The sooner you start, hopefully the sooner you will finish, or at least get more accomplished.

well, the only thing that i can advice you is to change your habit... procrastination is not a good habit and you will accumulate your works which you can actually can do it in little bits and pieces... i never like to procrastinate... i always tell myself to work hard first and enjoy later... and i feel more relieved if i enjoy myself after finishing my responsibilities anyway... :-) take care and have a nice day...
