I prefer black followed with silver. I like black because it is one of my favorite colors. It looks more professional and formal. I think, the features and functionality of the camera are more important than the color.
Silver is a common color. But I like it also because it looks metallic. It looks a little bit fancy for me.

Silver is my first preference, followed by black. These colours look more professional. Whilst black or silver are more common and popular but could be boring since it does not offer variety, I think it's alright since the product is a camera, it does not need to be fancy. Buyers are more concerned with the features and functionalities rather than colour or how it looks. I've seen red cameras but I don't think it's a popular colour. Women are more likely to buy it than men.

In my opinion, Silver is too common for a gadget and technology stuffs. I'd definitely choose black, as it gives more classy and more expensive look for my camera. And black color doesn't really show if you have scratch and hinge on your camera.

Hi. For me, the first consideration would be the specs. e.g. resolution, shutter speed, battery life, etc. So, given the preferred specs/features and there are choices for color, here are my preferences:
If it is a dSLR, I would prefer black because it looks more formal. But for point and shoot cameras, I prefer colors like metallic powder blue or metallic old rose because it would look more stylish, especially, if it is slim.

You stuck me here, as I am not sure that the color is as important as image resolution or color restitution when you buy a camera, but I believe there are also marketing studies on the color of the camera itself. If many people tomorrow find the color of the camera important, you will certainly find soon any shade of color. If cameras are mainly silver or black and silver, it is because these colors are more neutral than pink, green or yellow, and because the color of the camera is not the main reason why people are buying cameras today.
