Pass the valium

In retrospect I probably shouldn't have let Naomi pick the snacks, which consisted of sugar, carbs, and more sugar.
She's having a birthday sleepover with nine 11 and 12 year old girls. All the pinata chocolate strewed all over the house despite warnings about it being dangerous to the dog (I picked it all up). Wet towels all over the place. Naomi got gumballs as a gift, and passed them out. I just know I'm going to find gum in the carpet tomorrow morning despite handing out stern warnings about depositing the remains in the trash. The cats have already gotten out 3 times, despite putting them in the master bedroom with the door shut. And those girls are LOUD.
Where's the valium?

Nine eleven and twelve year olds? I think you have to be a saint! That many kids in one space and no hazards or problems? Not possible. Be glad it isn't boys. Boys can be louder(my grandson found his sound sythesizer again recently)and can spread Legos to places I never thought possible.

I remember slumber parties. It's been a long time ago. Guess they haven't changed much. Responsible adult(s) has to stay up. Someone must be wandering as I'm sure the cats didn't open the door on their own. Are they asleep yet? Doesn't it just make you want to have another kid or two?

Dawn.....most parents today aren't like you. They don't teach the "basics" anymore. Most of them aren't even at home to have the time to spend in conversation with their kids. Everyone is running around doing their own thing. A lot of the kids are being short changed when it comes to parenting.

Valium I think you may need something stronger than that. My kids are still little so I have some time before that stress. I bet they stayed up late too.

Hey there Dawny
Wow your a brave woman in the first place let me just say haha. Just think that it is all over now, well for another year anyway haha. I did a party for my son's 8th birthday and invited 20 kids, most of which were boys of course and an hour and half of that was enough for me, thankfully I had the sense to hire a hall and didn't hold the party at my house haha. Get plenty of rest hun haha

Back when we had a roller rink in town, I combined my two kids' birthdays. I knew the manager and he let me bring in all my own birthday food. I had thirty kids skating. Maybe more. My son saw a kid outside that had just started at our school and asked if he could invite him and his brothers. Later on that kid was not always kind to my son, but my son always was kind to him. I am glad we had the chance to do that. I would have that kind of party again.

LOL oh those were the days..well I did my time and am grateful it's over. I heard people say boys are loud but having two girls I really doubt the boys could outdo them in a 'who is louder 'contest'
All I can say is this too shall pass...and the years do go by so quickly even these memories need to be chreished..well maybe in hindsight ..Good luck, best wishes

And now this morning you are reaching for the strongest coffee you can find..
I am fortunate, when my girls had their slumber party, one was born in July, the other in August, so it was outside in tents where the girls stayed unless they needed the bathroom...I feel for you too, because if you have any girls like my one girl, they will stay up all night and who knows what they do during those long dark hours..lol

Oh yeah, I forgot you mentioned the cats..If we had any animal, it would have been a dog, so no problem. Yet, my youngest daughter's last party, she may have had her cat, but she was spastic about her cat getting out, so she made sure the cat was always inside.

Yo, Dawn.
C,mon, be patient and mercyfull. Have you already forgot you were doing same at that age?
Later, (XY) years from now, Naomi will log in mylot site (or who knows what similar site will be then) and start a similar discussion.
So, just enjoy, shade a tear remembering the time you were that age .. and don't forget to clean the mess

1. lol, but you were younger :-P
Best educationalthing you should have done is to tape recorded all "show" (well, not quite all, just memorable parts) and include the mess left behind and then, over the years, keep playing to her just to remember the fun + the work after ..

There is a world of a difference between today's kids and those of yester years. Today's kids do not want us around except to be at their beck and call. Full Stop. I dread the thought of having kids at my place. No. Thank you.

I have Xmas parties for kids managed by nuns each year! Last year there were 90 of them. I took them to a Beach Resort.

I can't even image having 3 screaming 11-12 year old girls let a lone 9. Wow! You must be a brave individual. I sure hope you don't have gum in the carpet. What a nightmare that would be. Of course, I would make Naomi do it. But I know you would need to oversee the clean. It would be faster to do it yourself. But it would make her be more aware of the mess it caused. Best Wishes!

I think you are absolutely right. Taking Cary shopping would be a lot less stressful for you. I might be wrong but I think supervising a boys party would be a lot less stressful then scream girls. I've always been laid back and quiet so I never had a party with screaming friends. I bet my mom was happy about that. Best Wishes!

Are you nuts? Not yet but you are getting there, right? I think you use WD 40 to remove gum from the carpet, but I am not positive. I know a product that used to be on the market that did the trick, but you had to get it from someone in direct sales, not sure if it exists any more. Let us know if you survive, or better yet, send up a flare and the Cavalry will come to the rescue. Remember, you are not allowed to maim or dismember other people's children. Too bad putting duct tape on their mouths would not make them quiet.

Wow - you braved a tween sleepover party!! I guess with a party, things don't always go as planned no matter how many warnings (can't necessarily control the guests). I had a friend who had a party for their daughter . . . she actually had an extra room in the house where she can contain all the girls during the party - there was even a bathroom there, so there was no reason that anyone had to leave the room. Well, we are talking 4-6 year olds here . . . can't do that 11-12 year olds!!! Valium, ha ha . . . should have put them in the pinata - ha ha!

Oh my, my house was the hang out place for sleep overs. On the one hand I liked that my kids held them at my home as this way I did not have to worry that they were sleeping over elsewhere.
But the mess, gosh I did not know about Valium then and Whoa I could have used it too. The good thing is that it is for one night but the bad thing is that they have so much fun they want to do it again.

How lively it was! Children had a jolly time at that point ,obviously what you said about depositing the remains in the trash made practically no impression on them. They are children after all.I think that kind of atmosphere affected you more or less.
