I agree that all students should be required to study art and music in high school. I’ve read that young children who study art and music in grade school do better in their other studies. That argument aside, we should study art and music for its sake alone. We should study art and music to learn more about ourselves, our culture, and our world.
Both art and music feed students’ imaginations and help them express themselves. There’s a reason our ancestors in caves drew on the walks and make music with drums. Wanting to express ourselves is natural. It gives us an ? for our emotions and fears. It may not always be music other want to hear or art others will appreciate, but the activity itself is enjoyable. It shouldn’t matter if the end of result isn’t perfect. In the process, we learn what we like and dislike.
What do you say?

If your experiences say music should mandatory implement on elementary or high school, in my side, the profession need to be in all school level is medicine.
many of us,me, you, and them dont know the benefit knowledge of medicine specially in time of trouble, we blame ourselves if something happen to our loved ones, and we didnt do what should do in time of emergency..we only have one life.

I believe music and arts should be kept manditory in schools. These are subjects that students otherwise might not be exposed to. Some children might never realize there true love for art or music if they do not get exposure. We might miss out on the next best artists if these things were taken away from school cirriculum..

You have thought this out very well, and I agree with you. It is too bad that in many places budgets for schools are being cut and art and music are often the things that are cut first. Music has its basis in math, and children who are exposed to music learn math more easily. Meanwhile the cadence of music helps children learn the rhythms of reading. When we study art, we ae studying history and society as well. These things define us as people. When I worked with helping in a preschool we often remarked that art was the process not the product.

Art and music is essential for children to express themselves in a way that will not be harmful to themselves and to others. It gives them an avenue to put on paper or through an instrument the psychological highs and lows that go with being a child. It is a well known fact that children who are traumatized will express their feelings on paper, when healing has taken place this will also be expressed in their drawings and art. It is better for an angry teen to beat out his/her frustrations on a drum than on themselves or other people, and also to be soothed by the music they are playing. The academics of art and music is also important in the child finding their identity and culture. One example is The Honorable Robert Nesta Marley, he has given the Jamaican people and the world so much. How would he have expressed himself if someone had not taught him how to do so? He might have figured it out for himself as some musical geniuses are self taught, but perhaps not. Thank God he was taught music at school when he was growing up. It was and integral part of our education from basic school through high school and still is today.

I think it should be included in the study or lessons of students. Academic institutions must not only mold the thinking capacity of students. They should be shaping the students as a whole, in their totality. This will not only make them good students but also good people or good workers perhaps. The art and music classes are the additional subjects that I really like. It is a good thing to those who really like those fields. And its enjoyable. Really.

Yeah! Ever child should be exposed to art and music, especially at school so that they can learn with their friends as well. In my country, it is compulsory to learn some art and music before you reach senior year. When you reach senior year, you can either choose to take up art and music. I didn't pick them because they're not exactly my strong points but it's still fun to do in my spare time. =)

i totally agree with you. you have pointed out the benefits and reasons why we need to have music and arts courses in high school. aside from complementing other courses, music and arts have their own merits why there is a need to include them in the curriculum. for one, music and arts enhance our appreciation of nature. they also keep us in touch with our humanity.
