Is It Too Early To Start Christmas Shopping?

For me, no it's not, although it feels very strange to say that I have started my Christmas shopping, since it is only September. Shops here in the UK start advertising Christmas earlier and earlier each year, and once they start doing that, it takes all the fun and spark out of Christmas and getting ready for it, and for me it makes me feel rushed to get everything sorted. I have birthdays either side of Christmas, so I like to be organised, and also, make sure I have everything I need, just in case something happens and I do not have the funds to be able to get things for Christmas. Already I have bought a few things, and hidden them away. I think buy a couple of things a week, even little bits will take the pressure off. I know to some people this sounds ridiculous, and to some of you it will sound quite sensible. My friend who lives next door, has actually finished her Christmas shopping, and wrapped everything up and put it all away! What are your opinions on Christmas and getting ready for it? Have you started your Christmas shopping?

Nooo, not ridiculous at all. It's definitely better to start shopping earlier. But the reason for me is not because, there are early Christmas promotions or lower prizes, but exactly the opposite. If any holiday is coming all kinds of commercial tricks are starting here and the prizes go up instead of down, but big sighs saying 50,80% are all over the city. And it's more likely to buy something on a higher prize instead of on a lower one. But anyways I think it's good to start Christmas shopping earlier no matter the reasons actually.

I wish I had a more things ready for Christmas but funds have been a little tight recently! However I have got a few little things in for stocking fillers. With 5 kids and 10 grandkids I have a lot of presents to buy!! I also 'help Santa' write letters to children, the orders are beginning to come in for them too now! I think in today's climate most people have to be prepared early and to begin thinking of Christmas from now onwards to avoid getting into debt. I refuse to go into debt to buy Christm presents!!

Exactly... I have been in debt before due to Christmas, and it is not a place I would like to be in again, so everything I buy, is with money that I have, and doing it now takes the pressure off. Everything is a struggle these days, and when Christmas comes round, well it just makes people panic. Plus on the upside of shopping now, you can stay away from the companies that like to put the prices up of certain things at Christmas, because they know that they are going to make more money out of people, I feel like I need to get a bargain when I see one now, so I don't fall into that mad rush come Christmas time :)

Personally I feel it is definately not too early to start Christmas shopping, especially if you have a lot of people to buy for. I know that there have been many times I started early myself, and know of some people who are found buying things all yr. round. I think especially in today's economy it is often cheapest to buy a few things at a time so you do not leave all the expense and such for the end.

Hi. I don't find it silly that you are thinking about Christmas already. I live in the US, and here the stores start putting Christmas stuff out early each year too. Right now there is Halloween stuff, Christmas will come next along with Thanksgiving things at the same time. I am actually a planner, and I have finished Christmas shopping for my family. I have two children and they are easy to buy for. They have their little hobbies and stuff. I buy only 3 gifts per child. That is it! They get a apple, and a orange in their stockings, with candy in between the apple and orange. My mom and MIL will be getting home made crafts this year that I made. We have a huge extended family with a lot of nieces and nephews, they are all getting a nice homemade gift as well. The babies are getting blankets that I made. The older kids will be getting gifts that I picked up throughout the year when ever I seen something they liked on clearence, or on sale.

I also have started my shopping. I like to buy things early so I don't have to fight the crowds of people all the time. I also like to have time to think about the gifts that I am giving. Yesterday, my husband and I went to the store and I seen Christmas items out already for sale. It seems as though it gets earlier and earlier in the retail world each year.

Hello! I'm so glad to hear Christmas is so near. Here in my country, from the month of September you can start hearing Christmas Song already. It's good to start buying your gift early while shopping malls or other store is not yet crowded, in this you can choose well what you want and not cramming whatever lacking of your presence.

It's really not, as far as I'm concerned. I like to have all of my Christmas shopping done by at least Thanksgiving, or perhaps the day after, because I hate having to go to malls anytime from Black Friday through Christmas and even after Christmas sales. I can't handle it. Too many people - too many RUDE people - too many kids - everything is picked over, etc. I have had so many horrible Christmas-time shopping experiences it's just not funny (or worth it anymore, even if you get good deals). So this year I'm trying to be a good girl and get everyone taken care of as soon as possible. I know I'll be giving out a few gift cards to certain people, but I found a great deal at Macy's for a jogging suit for my aunt (she LOVES this stuff, and the brand is Jones New York - and it happens to be her favorite!).I only have about 6-7 people to shop for max, but I like having everything planned out. The only problem is that no one starts to write 'lists' out until about a month before Christmas. I like getting my fam & friends things they actually need/want...But the problem is they might get it before Christmas, if you think ahead so much as to buy it in September, yanno?

As matter of fact, that sounds ridiculously early to do a Christmas shopping that early though. But after what you explain your reason, that may sounds reasonable. You can spare yourself more time to shop around what is best for your friends and family for the Christmas gift, and you don't have to rush to the stores to do all that Christmas shopping all at once, give yourself less pressure, and you can plan your finance ahead. Maybe you got a great idea to do an early Christmas shopping.

It's never too early to shop for Christmas presents, especially since everyone's budgets are tighter, finding a good sale for something that you're getting for someone as a present is a good thing, no matter what time of the year it is.

Although I can not find anything wrong already organized in September to Christmas shopping, I personally would not be able. Primarily due to the fact that despite being already late September, here in Italy is still a summer climate, and secondly to the fact that the global crisis and the lack of jobs has greatly reduced my budgets. That said I still think your a good initiative.

Oh you are really super fast! To me it is a little bit too early to start my Christmas shopping. It seems to me that there will be more discount later on November or December, which helps me to save a lot money. And there will be christmas sets available for sale, which the prices are much lower than their values. For things that I want to buy for myself as christmas presents, I will probably wait after Christmas as the price will drop drastically. Like last year, I bought a cosmetics box from a us brand for around $50 us dollars, but after christmas I checked their website again, the price dropped to $35 us dollars. I was shocked and gave my pillow a big big punch! So this year, I have learned to be smarter in making my Christmas shopping decision!

I know people that start shopping after Christmas when everything goes on sale and buys one item a month for the whole year until Christmas. This is actually a good technique if you ask me.

I think it's really sensible to start shopping now. I say this, but, never do it, I always start around December 10th, and am in a panic at about the 20th. I admire people who can get themselves organized so early. I'm the biggest procrastinator on the planet, or maybe I just enjoy the last minute hustle and bustle.

I don't think it is too early to start Christmas shopping. It is the start of the Ber months and people normally starts planning about the holidays during this time. The mall will get more congested as the Christmas day get nearer so it will be smart to shop as early as possible. I've heard some people even starts at July. Unfortunately, I haven't done any shopping yet. We are planning also to buy a new Christmas tree. I think I have to discuss this with my husband so we can start buying gifts and decorations gradually.

No, I've not yet. I don't buy but for a few people anyway. I need to get some things bought etc for myself first, and then I can start on everyone else. I think for the most part it will be gift cards and then a more personal gift, just because it'll be something helpful then something I know they'd like.

It seems to never be too early to do some christmas shopping. Waiting until december can stress you out. christmas shopping should be an enjoyable task. it should not have to be a chore instead.
