Had to go to the grocery yesterday afternoon. The big item on the list, a new microwave since the one we had that was probably 20 yrs old finally died. We go the home applience section & It's mostly empty. They have the display models & not many others. The ONE model they did have several of they didn't have a display. I ended up helping set one up since the worker in the area couldn't even lift it.. We picked the model we wanted & my wife & I did the rest of our shopping getting a cartload of stuff. Once we were done I went back to appliences & grabed the microwave we'd chosen , one of the largest models of course & headed back to the check out. We got up front at about 5:00 , rush hour , & there's only 3 casheers. Apparently they expect everyone to check themselves out now but I'm buying alcahol & such so that's not possible. We end up standing in line forever, the casheer finally starts ringing us up. I've got everything on the belt including the microwave which I set on there ONE HANDED. I procede down to the bagging area &... she's packing those bags so light I can pick them up with my pinkie! Seriously...2 cans in a bag? WHY? Do I look like some grandmother who can't lift more than a can at a time? What's the point of a bag for 2 items I could just carry out in my palm? Is the public getting so wimpy that's the way they have to bag now?
Of course after the last time I checked out & the casheer groaned lifting the bag he was trying to hand me , which I promply hooked on one finger, I have to believe that's the case.
So I now have a huge stack of plastic bags at my house... Next time I'm just going to take a trashbag to throw it all in & toss it over my shoulder.

We are getting physically weaker, that's true. Young people spend more time in front of the game consoles and on their smart phones than they do in physical activity. Even if they go out dancing every night it's not building muscles they need to do work activity.
When I worked at a grocery we were encouraged to place a minimum of 8 items in each bag. The exception was a few elderly people who wanted only a couple items in each so that they wouldn't have to ask someone to help them carry in their groceries.
Save those bags, at least some of them. They are good to wrap garbage in till trash day and put it in your freezer--I do that so I don't tempt the dogs to knock over the trash. I keep several in my emergency supplies and I also use them for packing when I send my family Christmas presents. I used them for packing fragile items when I was selling nearly everything I had, too, they worked very well. Lots of uses for those bags--waste not, want not!

My dogs get to clean the plates. There's nothing going into the trash can besides plastic which I avoid buying as much as possible. I really have no need for this huge stack of bags. Most of them are going back to the store's recycling center when I remember.
When I worked as a bagger at Kroger we were taught to build walls. We'd put a box on each end of the bag then stack about a dozen cans between them. Those bags were full & stacked well! Now it's just a waste of plastic.

I thought I was the only one that let the dogs clean the plates! You can't believe how people are grossed out by that but soap and water do wonders and dog's mouths are cleaner than ours--scientifically proven! Yep, the old "wall" concept was a great space saver and I still use it when I do the self-checkout.

You just to strong for your own good uath13.
I know what you mean though cause I do the grocery shopping and it amazes me how some of them bag your stuff.
They put bread in a bag and then cans on top

I only like shopping if I can find very quickly what I need and I prefer to go if there are as less as possible people in the shop. Since I don't like shopping I go as less as possible son I can tell my self if I have to wait it is at least a fact it's because I need a lot and not just a simple thing. Microwave, fridge etc.. I just run into a shop look if what I want is there and pick out the cheapes. I don't believe all the blabla fo the salesmen and the biggest part of all these great options I will never use.
