Yep,Christmas is on its way, with Seasonal chocolates in the shops, and baked goods whose best before date has got to be way before the event...Can ANYONE tell Me What's the Point of having foodstuffs in the shops that's Holiday specific that Won't even last until the day in question?! Are there so Many mince pie fans out there who can't wait until December 25th?!

Years ago I worked in retail marketing and it was crazy! Stores have summer items out when it's still cold and Christmas stuff on the shelves before Halloween. Frankly, it's become commercial overkill and turns people off from buying rather than encouraging them. Ugh, the food stuff is out way too early (and usually is marked down by January to mere cents). Yuk, not a mince pie fan...

Check the date on the photo I posted above with the Halloween cake package-they're dated October 15th!

Eeew, that really is too much! I also read the comment above about Christmas birthdays - mine is 3 days after, my dad's is 4 days after and my husband and three of my kids are in January - plus our anniversary is in January. Honestly, I cannot afford to get caught up in the holiday hype or I'll be totally broke :)

I love Christmas and everything about it, including the food, but I agree... it's just a little too early for things that won't even keep until then. I haven't seen mince meat pies (that's the one Christmas food I don't care for) around here, but they're probably out there somewhere.

Mince Pies are just one Item that I spotted..it was like "It's THAT time again?" when I saw them..but there would be many other seasonal Items coming up next that wouldn't be officially viable in 100 days..

I have not started to count nor do I want to think about it. 2 of my children have birthdays next month, I am focusing on getting things for their special days and costumes for Halloween.
I don't think it's necessary that stores and other places start so soon in ordering goods for the upcoming holidays. I think there is plenty of time for this. I'm sure many look forward to the celebrations and the food coming up. I however am not looking forward to paying for it all plus a heating bill.

Having birthdays on the runup to Christmas must be a pain..You hear stories of kids whose Birthday gift can also be their Christmas gift..A consumer site recommended starting planning and budgeting for the Christmas spend from around now if you haven't done so already,so you don't overextend nearer the time and be wiped out by the christmas and winter bills into January..

Haha - I know it is totally pointless isn't it? I don't like mince pies but, usually I would be treating myself to all the choccies on offer already! Lol we celebrate three birthdays before Xmas so we like the fact all the Christmas sweeties are out as we usually buy loads and then pick into them during the birthdays - and then have to buy more! But, not on the mince pies! : )

The choccy stuff would tend to have a better shelf life than the baked goods,so as long as you hadn't completely pigged out over the holiday, the choccies could then be picked up cheap when the post holiday clearout starts..(apparently!)

I love to bake during the Christmas holiday season. I make fudge, cookies and candy. I usually give these things out as gifts. I usually start baking the first week in December and store things in air tight containers. I am not a mince meat pie fan, but I know that some people serve it for Thanksgiving.

Home Baking is the GOOD stuff..
but do check on your next shopping trip for "Holiday in Advance" items to see if they'd still be good when the time comes around!

Here we had Halloween Candy out in the beginning of September... so not only can you buy your kids crayola products, erasers and pencils but you can get your Halloween Junk. By Mid October the Christmas Junk will be out, so once the Halloween streamers come down the Christmas Lights go up. By Mid January out come Valentines and Then St Patricks' Day. Don't forget Easter where Jesus is replaced by the chocolate bunny and where good girls and boys will get oodles of chocolate and a toothbrush... Most will still have some left over Halloween candy.
As for Mince Meat Pies as a Kid I thought it was Mice Meat...I refused to eat it and didn't get my thinking corrected until I was olderby then the idea had set, I hear mince and I still think mice and laugh now!

I was watching one of those TV Chef programmes-River Cottage,I think-He said the original Mince Pie recipe actually DID contain meat and fruit, but it got changed over time to just the fruit version we know today..I don't have (much of) a problem with the associated stuff coming out beforehand,I can appreciate they can't produce and sell it all last minute,it's just the foodstuffs that won't last until the event comes around!

The only reason I like about Christmas because I can get a couple of days off from it. Other than this reason, I don't really have much fun with Christmas though. I hate the idea of go on shopping and wait in long line, and I don't like to exchange gifts and get myself broke. That is something I don't like to do.

I was reading a consumer blog that said the average family blows about 2 months salary around that short holiday period, and then suffers going into January..they were recommending to start your planning and saving NOW if you hadn't already done so to lessen the impact..

The only thing I love about Christmas just because I will have a couple of days vacations from this Holiday, that is why I would like it so much, other than that, I don't know, I don't like cold, and I don't like the idea of exchange gifts and spend a lot of money. There are might be some people complain about I was so cheap, I only bought him/her this gift.
