As a kid i went to the library about once a week with my mom and my brother. My son has just started school and one day decided i need to make it a routine to goto the public library with my son. So we went today amd were there for an hour and came home with a backpacl full of books. Needless to say that is what we did all day. And he wants to go back sunday, so we may jist be going more than once a week whoch is fine with me. Did you have any tradition like this when growing up that you have incorporated into your adult life?

As a kid, I didn't go to the library regularly. But I cultivated the habit of reading when I was a kid and this habit is now part and parcel of my life.

Hi, ljames85. No. I did not have a tradition that allowed us to go to the library often. We just went when the time was available. I would love to take my kids to the library often when I am able to. The love reading the books and playing with the games of eye and hand coordination. It is so wonderful that you are taking time to allow your child to go to the library, because they will have so many skills in life that will make them succeed.

hi ljames I used to work in our local library for 23 yearsand its a great place to get your children into crafts, and story times and all sorts of fun things for children. I grew up during the depression and no library in our small town, we lived on a farm. so I was an adult before I grew so fond of visiting the local library and reading all the time. so working in a library was heaven to me. I indoctrinated my son when he was five into getting books and going to the children's programs and he at fifty two is still an avid reader as I am also.

I remember going to the library once a day or at least once every couple of days when I was younger. If nothing else to get some new ideas for some reading material. Just to see what indeed the library had available and what I could most indeed add to my reading list. In the days before the Internet, this was the best way to find out what were the books that were out. Now a days, not so much. It was a sad day when the closest library to my house had closed down to to financial problems. Just another victim of the economy but really there is another one. However, I tended to stop by the old library on my walks. That was just a part of my life, something that I did. Now that's gone. I will always have the memories I had.

It is such a disappointment when that happens especially when its forced by the economy that we are in. I remember having reading contests and thinga like that at tye library in the town i grew up in. We had one library and it was very small but the liked to involve the town especially the children in the functionality of it and the contests that they would hold. I remember walking in there looking on the chart to see where i stood in the reading contests.

I had a teacher I will never forget who urged us to make friends with books. He said for the rest of your life a books will never let you down. They will always be there waitng for you and take you to places and people and circumstances all over the world. He was right. Books are the greatest 'escape' or vacation one can take.

That is amazing advice from a teacher, that is exactly what I have taught my son starting a couple years ago, it really is the greatest escape or vacation you can take. It takes you into a completely different place, be someone you aren't or want to be, great for the imagination.

When I was kid, I was so rarely go to public library. I was just visiting my school library several times for borrowing some books. Only several times, even I think I can count it with my finger . Anyway, thanks to my parents. They were frequently buying me some books. And from that point, I was start to like reading. And it is up to now - reading already being my hobby and my habit. Maybe I rarely go to library now, but I can manage my eager for reading by buying, borrowing from friend, or sometimes just reading "a few" on book store
