Have you met people who looked alike?

I encountered this really embarrasing incident one day. I saw this person on the street with another person and I thought, "hey, that's my friend, I should go and say hello" and guess what, I keep calling out her name and there was no response from her (she was facing me). I thought she didn't hear me, so I called her name again. Both she and her friend have strange looks on their faces. There and then I realized that I have probably mistaken someone else for my friend, I was so embarrassed and quickly walked away. However, as I walked, I still thought she looked so much like my friend. Have you met people who looked alike? Have you had embarrasing moments like this?

hi bluemoonpavilion yes I was walking across Larwind square when I thought I saw my son Robbie and his friene Mike David. so I did like you did, I called to them and they turned around. the one I though was my son had long hair but omy G he was ugly and huge, the other one did look like Michael Rivers. turns out he called to me glowered at me and said" I am not any GD Robbie". I apologized and got the heck out of there. I was really embarrassed and the big lout sure made me wish I had not called to them.

Oh my goodness, did they have to be so rude? Mistaken identity should be quite common. I think they should be glad that they have your acquaintance (even if it is not a real one!) Gosh, that's an unpleasant incident, not an embarrassing one.

Maybe they do not look alike now that so many years have passed and you would be able to tell them apart. Actually it is quite rare for cousins to look alike, normally it's siblings.

I have heard people say that there are seven people who look alike at any given time.I am not sure if that is true, but I have seen many people who look alike. In my town in one of the super markets there are two cousin sisters working as salesgirls who look exactly alike. Their mothers are sisters and the two girls look very alike...I get confused at times when I have to deal with them..

I have not heard that before. Usually mother and daughter, as well as siblings look alike, sometimes they even sound alike so their voices could be confusing over the phone.

Hi BMP :) how are you doing ? Well, the funny thing is that i haven't come across such people but some of my friends tell me that i do look like some of their other friends. LOL, that makes me feel weird, i really wish i was a singles masterpiece though. And what else, they even tell me that i also represent them sometimes with my characteristics, oh how weirder can it get, i look like someone and now i even talk and act like them? That really feels weird, two to three friends of mine have told so. Lol, makes me think...

Hi voldrox, Sounds like you are a very "common" person indeed, LOL! Even though your friends have said that you look and behave like someone else, I'm sure you have your unique points, or else they would be mistaking you for someone else all the time right? Our looks change all the time so you would be a "single masterpiece" one day!

I have several times actually and as you I have had a similar incident where I immediately assumed it was the person to be embarrassed when seeing it wasn't. There was this one time I was at a family barbeque and there was this guy there that oh my he looked exactly like a guy a friend of mine was dating. I kept looking at him as he could be the twin. A friend of mine pointed out something I would have not noticed and cleared it for me before I made an embarrassing move. As the afternoon went on I was able to talk to the guy and told him how he could be my friends partners' twin. He laughed and allowed me to take a picture of him and I text it to my friend who was shocked too.

That was an embarrassing moment indeed, he could have mistaken it to be harassment. Luckily he was quite gracious and even let you take a photo. You must have quite a laugh over it. I remember I had an incident too. I saw this person and thought it was a friend whom I haven't seen in years, I could only see his side view, so I was trying to get in front of him and verify, this person thought I was stalking him! In the end, it was really my friend but his appearance has changed so much it is a wonder I can still recognize him from the side.

yes it happens i think we all have a look alike somewhere in this world. i was once embarrassed by a lady who came embracing calling me names that are not mine. when she was calm enough to hear me out i told her i wasn't who she thought i am. she was shocked.so i believe we all have someone who look like us.

That must have been so embarrassing for both of you! I can just imagine the situation. It would have been even more shocking if we meet another person with the same face ourselves.

In my form in High School, there was a set of identical twins. When we first joined the school, they dressed exactly the same which means that it was very difficult to be able to tell the difference between the two of them. We got them mixed up on a daily basis for almost the full year, when one of them decided to dye their hair. That was brilliant for everybody as it meant that we were able to tell the difference between them for the first time since the day that we had first met them. I was not really embarrassed though, as it must have been something that happened to them a lot, so they thought nothing of it anymore.

I always thought twins are very interesting, some can be so similar that people cannot tell them apart, yet they can look similar but behave so differently. I have known one friend who is one of a triplet. They look alike but as I know only one of them, I cannot tell whether their behaviour is also alike.

Haha! Did you shrink as you were walking away? When I was young-er, I met a lady who used to dance in one of these (men's) clubs. She was nice so we became friends for a while. In my last job, there was this girl who worked in accounting who really looked like her. I couldn't figure it out why she didn't recognize me. After working with her I finally realized it wasn't the same girl.

Yeah, I got to the height of an ant They must really look alike then, but then they should be dressing differently, so they shouldn't really look alike? Good that you manage to sort it out.

Hi there, bmp! It does happened to me that I have seen someone that I think I know of, but then since I am not so sure about it, I asked him first if I knew him somewhere. then he said he's not. so I just moved on, but still figuring out his looks if he really is the person in my mind he is. But then he's not...so move on! From that time on, I make sure I would think first before asking or making a move towards the person who I think of was. Well, I do have a workmate before that most people told us we look alike. and we do, in some factors but then it was just few factors. you can still distinguish who's who. I do have a twin sister but we are not look-alikes. most of the people we tell we are twins don't believe us. unless we give birth certificates...

I told you, you were the one! I also can't remember what discussion is that. Yes, people always wonder and can't believe we are twins so it's better not to tell anyways. There are twins who really look alike but you can always tell by their attitudes who's who, isn't it? So the one you knew is differed side by side?
• Singapore

yes, it's me! it's me! The ones I know have very subtle differences, so the only way of telling apart is when they are side by side.

I think you have a good memory, yes! we have the same height. I can't remember the discussion we got into but I remember about us having the height. So you and your twin will not cause confusion for people. I remember one pair of twins in my school, they look so much alike but also a bit different but we can only tell them apart when they are side by side.

It sounds like a funny experience. It's really interesting when you meet with someone who looks like one of your friends. Even you know he or she is not the one, you can just come up and say something to them, telling them that you know someone who is like them. It would be fine. I never meet such situations. But I remembered I was once mistaken for someone else by others. I was puzzled when he called a name just in front of me. Whatever, it is funny. And I really wish to meet some one who looks like me.

When I'm on junior high school, I have a classmate whom is my look alike. My other classmates says that we are sisters. Though it never bring any embarrassment to me, I don't want to meet other person whom i look alike except if she is my twin. Haha!

I have a friend too whom other people said we look alike and they always mistook one of us for the other, though I myself don't think so at all. It could be we both wear glasses and have short hair at that time. Now they didn't thnk so anymore because our appearances become very different over the years. Yeah, I don't mind a lookalike twin too.

Yes, it is strange that sometimes people's side or back view look similar, sometimes even some expression, gestures, even hairstyle or dressing may be alike, but they are actually different persons.

One night in a public area,I saw someone who looked like my best friend. But I knew it wasn't him because the man wore reading glasses when my friend doesn't wear one.I examined if it was him. After some examination I realized it wasn't him.Check it first before doing anything.lol.

Luckily you can identify your friend by sight and you are so familiar with his appearance. For me, that person looks exactly like my friend, glasses and all, so I made the mistake.

Indeed, there are many people who I have seen in public, that look like someone else. Of course, as I walk closer, I realize my mistake a lot of the times. Except for a couple of notable circumstances which were quite embarrassing. There are a lot of people in this world, so it would be obvious that someone would look about the same. It is almost scary how much people look like people like you know. You wonder if they had a long lost twin or something that they were separated with at birth. It is really uncanny with some of these people. Almost rather scary and surreal a lot of the time. And rather embarrassing for us if we make those mistakes. Still what are you going to do?

Normally on closer examination we can tell our friends apart from another person even if they look alike, as their friend, I would be a loser if I cannot identify my friend (except for the case above). Sometimes we even talked about how celebrities look alike, they must have some similar characteristics like big eyes, good skin, long legs, nice body etc to become a celebrity, of course the so-called X-factor must be present too but their appearances would have many similarities.

I was about ten years old when I tried pulling this man asking him that we need to go home since church is finished when I took a second look it was not my uncle but a different guy who looks a lot like him even in the way he dress. Several times I have been mistaken for somebody else. I think that there are a lot of people who look so similar like each other.
• Singapore
20 Sep 11
That sounds a bit dangerous since you are talking to a stranger, but since you are in church, it should be ok. I also think there are many people who look alike, the so-called "common face".

hii, bluemoonpavilion:It is definitely embarassing thing to mistake someone else for our good friends. However, such thing are always innevitable for there are people who really look like each other, not just their facial features, but ????? their dress stytle and beheave as well.

Hi zaq, That is so right, sometimes I find some people familiar, not because of their face, it could be their expressions and sometimes hand gestures. I thought it is funny to see something familiar in a stranger.
