Feel good the natural way

You don't have to shave your head to MEDITATE or get into poses that would tie an escapologist in knots, but many GPs in England are suggesting meditation rather that medication for a whole list of problems from back pain to stress.
MEDITATION IS EASY... just lie flat on your back, close your eyes and breathe. If you can feel your stomach raise and fall as you breathe in and out, then you're doing it right.
Concentrate on your breathing and DON'T let your mind wander.
Try it for 15 minutes a day and you should feel a difference within a few weeks.
I wasn't too sure about things like this, but I tried it and it does really work for me.
Try it and tell me honestly what you think, even if it didn't work for you as not everything works for everybody.

Meditation is indeed both the simplest and yet the hardest technique to master.
Your method is one way of doing it. A commoner way is to sit comfortably and to concentrate on your actual breathing - the way that the air enters and leaves your nose.
Whatever 'method' you use, it is all about clearing your mind (often by occupying it with something mechanical and then letting that go) so that it is perfectly clear and receptive to things which cannot be expressed in words or even images.
Once you think that you have achieved that state where your mind is not distracted by concious thoughts you are probably about a third of the way there. Don't give up! You will (or should) feel discouraged ... if you don't, you are not even halfway there! Keep practising. There are unseen helpers who are there to take you forward, if you can let them.
The object of meditation should always to be a feeling of 'oneness' with the flow of the universe. If you imagine yourself as a leaf carried on the surface of the river, you are beginning to understand; if you imagine yourself as a fish in the stream, you still have too much 'self'; when you are merely a raindrop joining the great flow, you can begin to wonder if you are nearly there.

I can't get enough focus. For a couple of minutes, I could concentrate on my breathing, then my mind would suddenly wander. I'd try to focus on my breathing again, but then just the same, I'd think of other things again. Wheeww! Meditation is not easy. But I try and try because of the many benefits it gives to calm the mind and body.

Hi Anne18
If I lay on the floor and relax for any amount of time Annie I am likely to fall asleep hahaha. I might give it a go though, if it doesn't work with relaxing then at least it will have stopped me from munching for 15 minutes and might help me to lose weight PMSL

Breathing is a part of yoga and meditation. The strength of the core is all important for health and longevity. Concentration is hard for some people but mastering it and being able to meditate is so soothing. Meditation can be easy with concentration can be mastered.

I have known it for years that meditation is a good means of de-stressing oneself, and build one's inner reserves as well as improve health. However, I have not been doing it as regularly as I should due to my family compulsions, busy schedule both at work and home, and just a general tendency to not remember about meditating regularly.
However, in near future, I do aim to meditate more regularly.

I wish I could do this easily too!
Unfortunately, aside from the many thoughts that always trouble me, my constant lack of sleep might prove it difficult to just meditate when I'm lying flat on my back. I'm afraid I'll just be snoring after a couple of minutes.
But I could certainly try and do it for a few minutes. Maybe after a few times doing it, I could even stretch it out to 15 minutes.

Meditation has been judged by generations of practitioners and confirmed by science as having beneficial effects. It is also my experience. It is one of the best way to attain the state of relaxed alertness and sense of well-being. As a spiritual practice it paves the way to connectedness with God, others and the world.

Meditation, and relaxing is a Good thing in so many ways. There are a lot of us out there who are Christians who will do this while we are praying and seeking God and it can be so calming and relaxing. I know when you do things like this it helps calm your Blood pressure, stress level, etc. which in turn helps other things in your body as well.

I think it will work. When I was pregnant and took child birth classes they had us practice this type of breathing daily. It should be encouraged more often. I try to do this if I am having trouble sleeping.

I don't really meditate in a disciplined manner, but I do breathing exercises at least 5 minutes a couple times a day, especially before going to sleep at night. I think they do wonders. I am astounded to hear that some people have difficulty sleeping as I can hardly stay awake for 5 minutes to complete my breathing before dropping off.
