I don't know what's wrong with my kitten. Before, she eats her food in her plate. But these past few days, she won't eat at all. She will only eat if I put the dry cat food in my hand. Some cat owners also experience this. I've read several questions about this problem in several websites but no one seems to know the reason. No one knows how to change it. :(

Hmm. Since I've never had a kitten before, I'm not quite sure why this is happening. Do you play with her a lot? Maybe she misses you and wants your affection?

Aww that's so cute!! Maybe she really does just wants attention and doesn't like it when you start working or doing other things. Children can be the same sometimes.

Haha yes, she is like a kid. You are right, she does not want to be alone. She always wants us to be there at home. When we always go out, she will be very sad. But what can we do, we can't be at home the whole time lol. At least now she's okay. I hope she won't do that again.

Ohhhhh! I hope you figure it out. Maybe it is just a short termed thing she is going through and it will work out. Maybe she needs something else in her diet. Do you every try to switch up and give her soft food sometimes. That's what my daughter does. Twice a week her cat gets canned food. So it is like a big treat to her. I don't know if this would help, but maybe.

Hi crystaltears. Thanks for the response. :) Yes, I have tried changing her food. I tried dried, soft food, and in can, but nothing changed. She doesn't even want the wet food anymore.

cat - fashionable cat
I can't be that patient. I'd give food on the plate but can't allow my pet to take food from my hands. Why does your cat like it that way? Well, maybe your cat is sick. I don't see any reasons why it could be that lazy if the cat is not feeling something wrong. Well, maybe I am wrong because I have not really experienced taking care of cats. Maybe you should take it from someone who has good experience in taking care of cats.

I am not sure either. But I tried the advice of "Timeout" from the previous comment, and it worked. I'm really glad she is eating alone again. I hope she make some more progress. :D

Cat and most of this animal creatures are just like human. They want to be pampered and treated like human. However, occasionally try to put his food on his plate. There is a possibility that the creature might revert back to his good old ways of feeding from plate. have a nice day cheers!

hi! Thanks for your response. Yes, I really feel like they are just like human. My kitten is like a baby. She needs to be pampered a lot. I also always put food in her plate, in case she would want to eat on her own plate again. :)

I think kittens want this to have the connection of being fed by mother. Your kitty is probably anxious and wants that extra bit of care. I had dogs do that. They just did it for awhile when they want more attention from me I think.

I agree. It's because we left her for a night that's why she acted like that. I just hope she will start to eat on her own plate again.

The cat may just want to be pampered a little but the kitten may just not like the cat food, maybe a wet cat food is needed

I tried to change her food from dry to wet food. I think she eats the gravy but not the chunks of meat. I guess that's better. I'll try to give her more wet food. Thanks a lot! :)

I personally think that kittens should be fed the wet foods either canned or dry food that you moisten yourself. If you have dry food, you might consider wetting it with warm water and stirring well to make it gravied. Also be sure that you keep fresh water out at all times. I refresh the water two to three times a day. As in response #1, your cat is going to eat if she is hungry unless she is ill. After ruling out illness, just put the food down. She'll get it.

Hi! I tried to give her wet food before but she doesn't want it. Also the canned food. I'll try to feed her wet food again and see if there are some change. Thanks a lot.:)

Oh my kitten did that! And then he went through a phase where he would only eat off a spoon. Don’t worry, he/she will come around trust me.. you should try holding the food on your hand but hovering it over the bowl, and slowly tilting your hand more and more until eventually the kitten is eating out of the bowl and doesn’t realise because your hand is still beside it. Kittens can be strange little things, their mums can sometimes feed them from mouth to mouth believe it or not, I’ve seen it, which would explain the need for a hand or a spoon! But they will come round. My little man had to be bottle fed for the first 2 or 3 weeks I had him!

Yes, it's good sometimes, when your pet eats the food in your hand. It's cute sometimes, but it is also bothering especially when she won't eat unless I put her food in my hands. It's okay once in a while, but not always lol. Good thing she is okay now.
